The sexual revolution, disco music, feminism, free-flowing hallucinogenic drugs, and pacifism is the mish-mash of things that once created the absolutely unique 70s style that we so lovingly hate to remember. While there was some pretty awesome stuff going on in the fashion trends department, 70s men's fashion seems to have skipped all the cool stuff and went straight for the disastrous. Men's clothing made from shiny spandex? Groovy! Hip-hugging bell bottom pants, also glossy? You betcha! Chest hair, porn-stache, bright leisure suits, and skimpy short shorts defining the men's fashion? Far out! There's no way these 70s fashion relicts will ever come back in all their seriousness, so we can happily reminisce them in the safety of our jeggings and Yeezys, without fearing to witness a man-bulge wandering in the streets.
If you are still not convinced of the crimes that fashions of the 70s have committed, check out these men's fashion disasters from the decade to see what we mean. Compiled by Bored Panda, the list contains an appalling array of atrocities that the designers themselves cannot defend. So scroll down below to check the gloriously disturbing fashions below, but be warned, as it might get quite NSFW.

No one past the age of infancy should be wearing a freaking onesy. wtf!
The short guy looks like he's so disgusted by his clothes that he doesn't want to touch himself.
You mean on someone "stayin' alive, stayin' alive, a-a-a-a stayin' alive"? :)
Load More Replies...Nothing sexier then a guy in high waist plaid criss cross overall pants. I'm sorry I'm too young to enjoy this personally.
People that were your age in the 70's are too young now to enjoy this {shudders}
Load More Replies...Are these fashions in the US?? I just don't remember....don't want to remember!!!
I love how they specifically show the back of the overalls. As if that is the selling point!
My mom made me wear that plaid lederhosen s**t when I was four. Scarred for life.
Why are these “men” wearing ladies clothes? That tartan jumpsuit is so wrong on so many levels I can’t begin to enumerate them.
How can that be comfortable to have your waist band all the way up to your chest? lol
Can someone explain to me what life situation "I" and "J" might be appropriate attire for? I just... I don't.... I can't....
I had a pair of plaid bell bottom pants this color. Always wore them with a white turtle neck. The good old 70's!
Why'd they the brother in suspenders? We don't need equality in EVERYTHING.
I want pants like that! Oh wait. I have pants like that! But I'm a woman, so I guess it's okay...
The guys on the left are ok.. the guys on the right are the ones with a problem.
"It looks really good...now if only I could find a hat. Hmmm...oh, PER-fect!"
Were all these US or UK fashion, I can't remember seeing men dress so dumb
OMG the tartan cultural appropriation. I know a few scots that would beat man to death for wearing that (I'm a Wallace)
The problem is, none of these outfits would fit 90% of men today. Our waistline has grow out...
Load More Replies...So, as a child of the 60's I remember and worked in men's fashion during the 70's. Very few of these were actually worn by most men. These were those fashions that they tried to convince us was the latest trend but not really! Give it another 30-40 yrs and our grandchildren with be looking at the crazy things designers do now for fashion shows and they'll think that's what we all wore.
I would have to agree.... they NEVER deserved to exist in the first place!
WRONG!! 70s fashion for men is long overdue for a true comeback. I wear the 70s style every f&*^in day of my life regardless of what you so-called "fashion experts" who are nothing more than overpaid sexually repressed idiots think! Me-58a4af59c8b30.jpg
Hey, at least they(men) were really trying new bold things! Prob the most daring they've ever been with fashion! Lol. Saw quite a few things women have worn thru the tests
Y'all made this s**t up. I was there. We had great fun and the best music ever. Never saw this trash, anywhere. Well, maybe almost never... there was always Sonny & Cher. And Elton John.... but those were costumes! Except for Cher.... sonny-and-...02fd1e.jpg
Yeah Cher had some “Groovy s**t” she wore back in the day...
Load More Replies...This is America and as long as I have my freedom, I will continue to wear bellbottoms and platform shoes!!
Yeah that's what annoys me. So it's cute on women and modern to wear 70s but a man wears it and it is "outdated". F--them!
Load More Replies...The decade that taste completely bypassed. But true, at least it had a style all it's own, unlike the shapeless baggy jeans, hoodies and baseball caps that seem to have been around for about 30 years now
It's like Pinterest before Pinterest - except that it was an entire decade devoted to repurposing your dead grandma's clothes. Your dead, insane, colourblind, synthetics-lovin' gramma.
I remember the 70s as the decade taste forgot but this collection is truly outstandingly bad. But I don't remember that many check pants being around in Australia and it's something you'd never forget! Nor the fabulous man-baby onesies. Body shirts were the thing here.
I was in college in the 70's, and never once did I see anyone wearing a crocheted, belted sweater. Never.
Yes, it IS horrible, but at least they weren't afraid to show their chest hair.
I have this post bookmarked in my browser. Every time I go through my bookmarks to delete stuff I don't want any more, I get to the link for this post, and think 'No, can't get rid of this one yet'. It's hilarious and cringe-worthy - so bad that it's good!
They are all great, no idea what you are talking about. Men's fashion from an era you never lived in. For me brings back great memories. Very stylish.
The 70s, the decade that taste forgot. Thank Fek none of the men I dated ever looked like that, polyester body shirts & flares were bad enough. I was able to get them to ditch the body shirts for cotton by saying I was allergic to synthetics, they were all clueless enough to miss the fact that most of my dresses were Jersey.

Tbh the 'feminine' look is pretty great on guys... just hate the onesie stuff lol
my neighbor recently bought an almost new blue Nissan Xterra SUV by working parttime from a macbook...see it here>>>>www.jobsnews11.comTM
Gay isn't just a fashion, it's a reality and if there was a time when it was embraced by men to be flamboyant and unapologetic about being androgynous then it simply means those times marked a freedom of expression for everyone. I don't see this freedom today anymore. And I think this is a problem.
Load More Replies...30 or 40 years from now, when later generations look at what we wear nowadays, they would react the same way.
Yep. And it's your fault when we start seeing these on the street. But on the bright side, guys at least knew how to wear pants in those days!
When you see all these outfit it's a miracle we are here today to talk about it. I mean, how did they manage to seduce anyone to the point of reproducing wearing that. Unless they just took it off as soon as they saw someone of interst in the distance...
I can't see why men shouldn't be allowed to take some inspiration from female styles - like knitting, colors... Love the play with the androgynous :-)
i don't think they even want to come back since we have enough stupid trends nowadays ...
I'm waiting on silly hair styles and clothes from the eighties to take the heat off the 70s,😆
I'm not sure I should ruin the fun however a lot of guys wouldn't be caught dead in clothes made from Simplicity patterns or knitting instruction seen here. That said, I have pictures of me in poly leisure suits and/or platform shoes...
You know what I honestly think the problem here is: people today are sooooooooooooooooo effing scared of anything outside the box. I think this article in itself. In the 70s men were more playful with fashion. Today everyone is just scared of colours, patterns and the slightest hint of androgyny. Why do you need to perpetuate this toxic s**t? Bored Panda, your boredom just entered the stupid area. Go hunt some rabbits, you "real men".
I'm so glad that is behind us! Let us hope it never rears its UGLY head again. The nightmares!
Oh, the horror!! Oh, the polyester! Never again. For the children, we must vow NEVER AGAIN!!
