Photographer Captures World’s Tiniest Rodeo: Frog Riding A Beetle

Hendy Mp, a talented wildlife photographer based in Indonesia, has captured what is probably one of the weirdest spectacles we’ve ever seen – a tree frog going for a wild rodeo ride on the back of a giant horned wood-boring beetle. The tree frog is a Reinwardt’s Flying Frog, a threatened species that can glide down from trees with the skin between its fingers and toes.

The wild and adorable scene was captured not far from Mp’s home in Sambas, Indonesia. Mp is a fan of macro photography, and uses it to capture beautiful larger-than life photos of the many different beautiful insects, reptiles and amphibians native to Indonesia.

If you love having a close-up look at the tiny world of frigs, lizards and insects, then you’ll definitely love these photos by Vyacheslav Mishchenko and Miki Asai as well.

The frog is definitely being forced into those positions and is definitely distressed. Frogs don't open their mouths like that unless they're under severe stress, and the hand position is completely unnatural and was likely forced that way.

No it doesn't. It makes you wonder how long this poor frog has been staged in pictures that is so exhausted that it sits still on an animal it wouldn't get close to in any normal situation.

staged cruelty. The open mouth indicates the frog is distressed. They usually do that either for eating (duh) or when extremely distressed, like when being eaten by a snake. THIS IS NOT CUTE. Stop it! Shame on you, BoredPanda. Everyone was outraged when a dog got dipped in some water for a movie, but this photographer repeatedly staging frogs and telling BALANT LIES about how the encounter happened and we all find it cute? This frog is nocturnal, it would not even be active during the day. For the love of f**k, wake up and smell the cruelty.

Horrible, frogs don't naturally open their mouths like that unless to eat or when they're under duress. This is also a nocturnal species of frog and wouldn't be out during the day. But, that's because these are captive animals, and not out in nature. The photographer manipulated living creatures for some photos. So many comments from herpetologists on the internet explaining how this frog is not only put in unnatural positions (it's front leg being contorted in an unnatural way to look like an arm in the air, for one) just for photos. I can't understand people who call themselves humans yet are willing to torture other living beings for the sake of a couple of photographs.

Those aren't wildlife photos, they are faked, staged photos of a distressed frog forced into unnatural positions.

staged cruelty. The frogs open mouth suggests it is very distressed- they do this when being eaten by a snake, for instance. This is NOT cute. The fact that this photographer (or others like him) keep doing this to frogs and the internet keeps lapping it up is honestly an indictment of humanity. We all got outraged at the one time a dog got dipped in some water for a movie, but someone repeatedly staging frogs (and they are easily damaged during this) and telling lies about how it happened.. we're just ok with that? Please wake up.

Seems artificial or "Photo-Shopped" as it is very authentic, the rarest of rare sights to photograph.
