His sister, on the other hand, left home a while ago and got married to a man who makes decent money. But here’s the problem, she took all the credit for paying the bills and eventually convinced the parents to kick her sibling out, because the guy is a “shut-in loser.”
The parents are also interesting characters; the author says that they’re like those stereotypical teenagers you see in clichéd movies, who look down on nerds and think that those who study hard are uncool.

They kept the same mindset even after maturing and having kids and favored their daughter because she was pretty and popular. Apparently, the guy didn’t really care because he had his friends and was on better terms with his other relatives.
Time goes by, and they all confront him and blast him for staying in his room all the time, saying that his sister and her family need the space. The man was granted a limited amount of time to leave, so he nodded and moved three cities away to be closer to his relatives.
Two months later, the fun begins. His sister reaches out to him asking why the bills weren’t paid, as their lights and water had been shut off. The 28-year-old argued that since she was “allegedly” paying them before, she should’ve already sorted out the issue.
He then gets a call from his parents telling him that his sister has confessed and that he can come back, as long as he keeps paying the bills

A week goes by and he gets another call, this time from his parents. They explain that his sister confessed to everything and tell the man he can come back and have his room back, as long as he keeps paying the bills.
Naturally, he refused and said that he was enjoying living by himself and was now able to focus on his work more without having to endure their nasty remarks. Afterwards, he blocked their numbers, and he hasn’t heard from them since.

I'm not. He probably changed all of the bill pay accounts to online auto pay and was willing to pay the utilities as a form of rent. He leaves, closes the account with his bank and now the auto pay has no bank account attached to it. Instead of asking for the info for the accounts, they just didn't think about it.

This story made little sense, in that how do adults not see their bills and know someone within the house pays them? And that the one paying them hasn't made that arrangement known if they're making him feel like an outcast?
Because back in the day, men were expected to pay the bills, and their wives just keep their homes in order. Usually, it's the wife who didn't handle the finances, so when the husband either dies or leaves, she had little to no idea how the finances were handled! In this case, it's the son who's handled the finances while mom and dad were basically clueless, and went about their lives that way until their princess daughter, who was equally clueless, forced her brother out. That was when the truth came out about their princess not paying the bills (she was forced to admit the truth when the bills came due and they were in danger of getting shut off). The parents then sought to get son to move back home in order to save face, but the damage was done. Not only did he refuse to come back, he was enjoying his newfound freedom that comes with being in one's own place, plus he didn't have to put up with the parents' favoritism!

My sibling rents an apartment in a multi family house in jersey. Landlord is very old and mostly Senile. They pay all the utilities for the house (which the landlord lives in too). She's been the receiving end of elder abuse from a previous tenant and has no money besides the rent that my siblings pays. If not for my sibling the utilities would have been beyond due for years now. The landlords mind is long gone and she has no idea about anything anymore. The good news is she will never kick my sibling out because she probably only finds out every morning that someone is renting from her. My sibling tried getting the government involved (and give her control of the landlord's finance) but now they are worried about elder abuse, now - after the previous tenant stole all her money. All these stories start to sound equally untrue. It doesn't matter if the father was handed a job, he has had to see the bill for the utilities at least once and the fact that the utilities are tied to someone else's name it would have been easy to disprove this supposed sisters lies. Why if the sisters husband was making good money did they need to move in? These are all just too perfect wrap ups where the silent, shy, solo "hero" of the story is keeping the antagonist's life a float where that person somehow had absolutely no clue were or how their bills were getting paid. Then the "hero" can just walk away and do better while everyone begs for them to come back and inevitably fail, earning their comeuppance. It's gotten too easy to catch these fakes bc the writers will respond and even on simple questions start to give long elaborate reasons why they allowed such bad things to happen to them or why the antagonists were so dumb.
