For some time, Little Free Libraries have been emerging in Fayetteville, Arkansas and a local jogger named Jessica Mcclard started wondering why they were such a success. “My feeling is little free structures both create space for neighborliness and address social problems,” McClard told Huffpost. This is how she came up with The Little Free Pantry initiative.
When Thrivent Financial funded her for $250, she set up her first free pantry next to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville. The project became an immediate success. Now it has over 10K fans on FB and has already inspired others to build free pantries in South Fayetteville and Ardmore, Oklahoma.

When Jessica saw Little Free Libraries popping up in her town, she came up with an even better idea
She built a little free pantry so people could leave food and goods for those in need
On the 10th of May she installed her first box next to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
Jessica was amazed with the response – people were filling the pantries in no time!
The project now has more than 10,000 fans on Facebook and little pantries are popping up in other locations
“Peanut butter and jelly, feminine hygiene products and diapers are in demand”
“My feeling is little free structures both create space for neighborliness and address social problems”
Since one pantry was close to a school, she also made sure kids get necessary school supplies
You can support The Little Free Pantry project in two ways – by putting items inside or starting your own Little Free Pantry!
This is a really great idea, I wish there were more like these conveniences around, besides the conventional to benefit the ones in need
I wish more people would donate EVERYWHERE, not just in this little town. The world needs more towns like Fayetteville! Congrats Arkansas, you've set a great example to follow.
Load More Replies...Great idea but will be taken by those who don't need it I am sure. Would help if they were set up somewhere monitored so those who really need it get it.
The problem with monitoring is that those in need may be less inclined to help themselves as many still have pride and don't want others to know their plight.
Load More Replies...These would no last two minutes in England as all the Muzzies would empty them as soon as they were filled, It's the same as people here growing their own veggies and fruit, these f***s think it is alright to come into your gardens and help themselves.
Ever wonder their's a millionaire minds popping out now. I hope the world would see this and do the same. Specially here in the Philippines. More people are hungry and needs spiritual guidance. I don't think it is a bill to be pass but being a good samaritan. Very very nice Idea!
Wonderful idea, but I'm concerned with zoning and property rights. Should I approach a local church about using their property? Is licensure or permits required? Not to sound cynical, but there are some sick people in this world, and what if food products are tampered with? Much research required before hand.
I'm wondering about zoning and/or property rights? Should I approach a church and ask if we can start one? Is any sort of licensing required? Not to sound jaded, but there are some sick people in this world, so how can you assure the products aren't tampered with? Want to do this, but need to explore these questions further.
My town has fridges like this. Ppl set en up in popular alleys where more modest citizens live and create a group on Facebook where donations have to be announced. For accountability and traceability of the donations, because they also give prepared meals. It's a hit, where up to I think five all year long plugged refrigerators and they are often filled to maximum capacity. When everyone shares there is no reason for anyone to starve. Especially children.
Sorry I can't seem to be able to edit. We're up to 5*
