Lond-based photographer Brock Elbank is on a journey to photograph 150 freckled people for his next exhibition in 2017. He wants to celebrate beauty and, since mid-2015, he has succeeded with 90 striking portraits.
"I’ve always loved freckles," said Elbank. "What I find interesting about individual characters that I have been fortunate enough to photograph is that many have struggled with their freckles since their infancy and either hated them, or grown to live with them or even like them in adulthood."
"One subject I shot in September for the series spent a good three to four hours with me after the portrait, talking about how they felt as a kid, bullied, rejected at school for their appearance, which really shocked me as I found this individual amazing-looking." High use of contrast and possibly high def, Like the face but it would be even prettier in a natural setting and natural background as motive, ofc all photographers are different
Very interesting freckles patterns here, almost like someone threw a paint brush full of paint on her face, beautiful woman
i love how it is mostly just the stripe under his eyes and on his nose. :)
I have to say I have not seen many people with freckles, & that's worth celebrating being a person with freckles, I would not forget your face with all your life written on it
Some are beautiful, some look a lot more like sun induced skin damage. As someone with skin cancer I am not convinced we should be praising the effects of sun exposure
There is always beauty regardless but I THINK the photos are quite enhanced by the photo editing program from the skin tone and the noise level shown.
I have always had freckles and have always loved them. The horrible overcoloring of these people makes them look like blemishes and sores. Sorry but not my cup of tea.
Clearly some of these have been enhanced, I have freckles and they don't look like any of these nor anyone else I know with them. They don't stand out like these pics they kinda blend in and are not so outlined.
They look like a severe skin condition. I have lots of freckles and have gotten made fun of for having them.
Oh god, these pictures are so over-edited. I love freckles too, but enhancing them to the point where the skin looks damaged doesn't exactly bring out the "natural" beauty of these subjects.
I was a look like the #5 on a same age, but i never seen freckles dark like that. Im freckled everywhere, summer is darker a bit, but not that much.
I love freckles, but this edit scares me :( some of them look like texture or brush added
I'm a redhead, had freckles all my life, grew up in Texas where there's lots of strong sunshine....BUT, my freckles have never resembled any of these. I've never seen anyone with such strong freckles, and there are lots of redheads in my family.
#6 is not edited. I've met people in my life who have two different colored eyes. It's not super common but it does happen.
People with freckles often have the ability to memorize better because of the increase in photographic memory
Am I the only one who sings OITNB theme song while looking at the photos :D
I agree with the lighting. I have freckles all over me. In the summer they seem to be brighter.
They are beautiful women regardless of their freckles so this isn't really a true reflection on actual freckles.
Photo enhancing or not all I see is beautiful people. Beautiful skin, beautiful hair, beautiful eyes, beautiful bone structure... beautiful, interesting, unique :) <3
I am quite freckly too, and see freckles as beautiful...but, BUT, skin damage like this leads to all kinds of skin cancer. People of all ages should cover up. The sun is NOT your friend. Melanoma has a high mortality rate, especially if not caught early on. You get enough vitamin D from just normal walking outside....ten minutes or so a day is enough.
I am sorry, but hardly any of these people look very happy. I have constant struggle with acne, and I do not see how someone can be happy with SO MANY freckles. Some of them are just too severe. A few freckles may be considered beautiful, like a "beauty spot", but not these. All the subjects are gorgeous though, but most of them would be happier if they removed the freckles, at least 50% of them. (Just my opinion)
Muniza Tariq, that's just mean! They can't help it if they were born with lots freckles!!
While I think these people are all beautiful, I agree that they've been too enhanced. The extensive editing doesn't make them look real or natural to me. Even after extensive sun exposure my extensive collection of freckles aren't this noticeable.
Y'all feel better about yourselves after trying to minimize this guy's beautiful photos and subjects?
Photos are amazing! i love freckles (my country is a rare finding) and redheads even more!
I had freckles as an apprentice.... the Head Gardener told me not to stand so close to the manure spreader, who knew
