Unfortunately, stories about abandoned and unwanted dogs have become daily news, with heartbreaking reports showing up more often than we’d like. All we can hope for is a happy ending for every single pup out there that’s been through hell and heartbreak. Imgur user ilikeduckies recently shared quite a positive story about finding a dog however the happy ending is still yet to come.

Yesterday, the woman shared a story about how she and her boyfriend found a lost pup in the middle of nowhere. They spent hours trying to befriend the poor pooch. “She was very scared and very skinny, and she didn’t have any tags” the woman recalled. After a while, they managed to befriend the pup which they named Blueberry (or shortly, Blue) and she quickly turned into the sweetest dog ever. But the battle wasn’t over yet as the woman reported that her boyfriend’s opinion differed greatly from hers. Scroll down to read the full story and find out what happened!

Adopt her. You’ll sort out the tricky bits. Just like having a baby at the wrong time. Once she lives with you, you take it day by day and make it work. Not keeping her will very probably mean regretting it forever. And it’s not natural. Life means getting attached and overcoming difficulties, not ticking off items of a neatly planned bucket list. Enjoy the ride that’s offered you by living in tune with what is happening to you!

I would see if the shelter does fostering. If it does, you could foster her. That way you can either a) give her a trial run and allow your boyfriend to bond with her more closely or b) take care of her until she finds a good home that would make you feel better about leaving her. Also, when fostering often the shelter pays for certain amounts of care. You can always "foster fail" and adopt her eventually if your boyfriend comes around. I don't advise adopting her without him knowing, just because a dog IS a huge commitment and that's not fair to do to someone who you're serious about being with, but this could be a good in-between that would work out better for you guys. I hope things work out for all three of you.

I disagree. If she adopts the dog behind his back, he will resent her, and trust is the most important thing in a relationship. They need to be in agreement on this one, like mature adults.

Years ago I was in the same position as you are now. For quite some time my husband had promised that we could get a dog when we have a large yard. Well we got the yard and no dog. I begged, I pleaded I tried to negotiate. Then I met Ruby. She was just a puppy then. A border collie mix with a heart of gold and a home that she had to get out of because of all who knows why. So one day I told my daughter I'm going on a trip you can come if you want to but I'm not telling you where I'm going. So we got into the car and we drove to a relatively nearby town and picked up Ruby. She came with a collar a leash some toys and a couple of dishes for her water and food. From the first second on she was a natural. Wise, friendly, funny, and loving. We drove home and my daughter said to me you take the dog I'll get the toys. My husband was standing in the open garage. She immediately ran up to him put her paws on his chest and started licking his face when he bent down. From then on she was his dog. Yes she loved me and she loved my daughter and she loved my son. But she was definitely his dog. Three moves later, two homes with even smaller yards, Ruby was still with us. she finally passed away at age 16. The Lost was immeasurable. A few years later my husband also passed away. My heart was broken because I loved him so much. my consolation is I have both his and Ruby's ashes sitting in urns side-by- side, just as they always were

I am appalled at the post that recommend for her to ditch her bf...Some are said in a jokey way, but some sound serious. What? The bloke sound very decent and level-headed. He's the head, she's the heart, which is often the case in a good relationship. They need to discuss it at length, consider all their options, calculate their finances, visualise their future life schedule etc...With a clear picture ahead, it'll reassure him, and she'll get her wish. But if the picture is really, really grey, I'm sure she'll come round to it in the end that the best is to hope for Blue to find a better, happy ever-after family. Who says they can't keep in touch with the new owners anyway? I'm sure they would appreciate a dog sitter every so often ;)

I agree with cwa92464. There will never be a "right time" to do anything. Before those five days runs up, do your research. Ask those neighbors you mentioned that have Newfoundlands and Great Danes. Ask them what they did to make it work, and if they regret it. At the same time, though, I think you need to have a full conversation with your boyfriend. Talk to him about his past and the dogs he had. Something obviously happened to make him "eventually" want a dog, and also make up excuses/legitimate reasons. But don't psycho-analyze too much. Just try to understand his perspective.

I'll just share that I got a dog I couldn't afford. That dog got sick. For years I put bills on credit. Yes, I had insurance, but it wasn't enough. Now I have thousands of dollars in debt that I can't pay because I would never deny my best friend care. If you can afford insurance and preventative care, get the dog. (Check to make sure the insurance doesn't do periodic reviews of your claims and reduce coverage - some don't, mine did). If you can't, don't. Make the decision based on what you can afford, and your time that your willing to commit. This will be your dog. You also might want to look into couple therapy ... you guys need to work on communication and conflict resolution. Good luck :-)

It's great you learned the right lesson from your experience. It's like how people have children they can't afford and then demand help and if you don't give it you're an a*****e. This guy insisting on a yard for a big dog, and money to pay for it's medical bills is far from unreasonable.

How about this - It's not particularly an easy decision and Its not about convincing your boyfriend, its about coming to a decision together in a calm and reasonable manner. Posting about your boyfriends opinion in a completely biased way and asking the online community (who are notoriously aggressive) to give credence to your point is kind of devious, no? I'm sure you could come to a conclusion if you just engaged in civil discourse with your boyfriend. I think we have to stop relying on the internet to fix all of our problems and disputes. In any case, I hope the doggo is ok!

Well, as somone who's had a few dogs, I'm with the boyfriend on this one. I do agree you can keep a big dog in an apartment, but it would need plenty of excercise (3-4 hrs a day). This is a huge and exspensive commitment, you need to be absolutely sure you will be able to take care of it for the next 10+ years. If you can't take care of possible vet bills without taking out a credit, don't do it.

Compromise; take the dog home and foster her until you can get her a loving home via a website like Petfinder or a no-kill shelter. It's not as satisfying as adopting her, but it may work better for your current situation.

I had a 98lb German Shepherd (since he was 10-months old) and for 8 of his 12 years we lived in rural areas with lots of outdoor space. He loved being outdoors with us (and very active when he was) but when we were inside (a motorhome) even for the better part of several days he was just as happy hanging out there with us too. When he was 8, we had to move into an apartment. He was still as healthy and active as when he was a pup. We made sure he had at least 2 shorter walks and one longer one every day and he seemed just as happy with apartment life--so long as he had his people around. Just always keep in mind, especially in a small home, your dog's entire life is basically under your control and responsibility. With some exceptions (certain breeds) most dogs can be happy and healthy in an apartment if you always ensure he gets the attention, outdoor activity and exercise he deserves (and needs) regardless how inconvenient it can get sometimes.

You are amazing for rescuing her, but if you don't have the money for vet bills and don't have the time to properly care for her, it would be very irresponsible of you to adopted her. Maybe you could foster her, but if there is a person or family that is better equipped to give her the life she deserves then don't deny her that.

Considering he is the one that has had dogs and she's dismissing all his valid concerns as "not legitimate", I don't think she's ready for a dog or that she realises what responsibility she'll be taking on. She just wants the dog because she's never had one.

Your BF is a douche. He should acknowledge that you are super upset about not having this dog. He should support your dream of getting a dog. Instead he is irritated with you because you are unhappy with his decision. Nah nah nah. All the signs are pointing that this is your dog. A totally untrusting nervous dog that you managed to gain the trust of so much so that she felt comfortable to sit in your lap and cuddle. A dog that cried as you left her. You already have a deep relationship with that dog and that dog has a deep relationship with you. This dog was meant for you in this time and place in your life.

I have 3 dogs, a Chow about 15 years old, a Husky about 2 years old, and a German Shepherd about 4 years old. The German Shepherd I'm only babysitting for a few months for a friend. I live in a 1-bedroom apartment on the second floor. I work 40 hours a week, have to carry my Chow up amd down the stairs 3 times a day because she's so old and has bad hips. I got her when she was just a year old from a shelter and had her ever since. Though the German Shepherd isn't mine, I did buy her, name her, and train her for the friend so I'm pretty attached anyways. I've had my husky since she was 6 weeks old. In all the time I've had these dogs I've never run into any of the problems your boyfriend has mentioned and I did 10 years in the Air Force and had to travel a lot. I've been in a few relationships where I was given the "me or the dog" ultimatum and I've never regretted the choices I've made. I'd take a bullet for my dogs and have always been able to make things work. What I'm getting at is if there's a will there's a way. The dog is already in your heart so there isn't much of a way around it. The hardest part about having a dog is getting them out of your heart.

To those who say ditch the boyfriend... What if this post had been made by the guy while talking about adopting a child while the girlfriend does the reasoning? He sounds like a level headed guy, went through the trouble with her of finding a shelter. What she can do is persuade some of the friends she mentioned to adopt the puppy. She can visit her and bring the dog home sometimes.

If this isn't the time to adopt a dog I don't think every will be. Explain to your boyfriend that you feel very strongly about this and it is breaking your heart not to adopt her. If she has not been spade check to see if there are any low cost spay/neuter programs in your community. Does the shelter offer fostering programs? Maybe you could foster to see she is a fit. You have found a dog that is meant for you... you found her for a reason. I wish you luck in persuading you boyfriend.

His arguments are good, but so are yours. You don't need a yard, but you do need to get your dog out of the apartment three times a day. And that can be damn tedious if you live in the 5th floor without an elevator (like I do). Breeds do come with certain temperaments, but pits are usually very loyal and docile. It really takes some serious f*cking around to make a pit aggressive. You already love the dog, so give her a try. BUT make sure it really is a decent fit, long term. You need to love your dog enough to find a better home for her, if she can't live well in yours. A good friend of mine is just finding out how brutal that is.

You are an adult. Are you able to be financially independent without the support of your boyfriend? Yes? Go get the dog and dump the boyfriend. No? Either give up on the dog or convince the boyfriend of the benefits of having her as part of your home. The third option is get rid of the boyfriend, get the dog and find a roommate to help with the finances. Options one and three are definitely my strongest suggestions.

The bond between humans and animals can be as strong as having children (it takes an animal-lover to understand that). Adopt her. Pets who have been rescued are forever eternal. We have done that to many dogs. If there are behavior issues, they can usually be trained with dog school. There are pet insurance companies that aren't that much but will save you a lot. You'll figure the rest out. We've had 2 cats (I know, slightly different than dogs when looking for places to live) and I know it limits us as to where we can live, but we could never be without our fur babies.

Truthfully I don't think I'd be with a guy that denied me a dog like this if I felt so strongly about her as you so obviously did. Sometimes there's a connection between animal and human that can't be denied. I have it with my 14 year old Pitbull I have now. Oh and tell your Boyfriend he doesn't know s**t about Pitbulls, they are AMAZING dogs, and Blueberry may be 1/4 Pit if that much.

My wise grandmother always said, 'If a dog comes to you, it's your dog!'. Many years ago my son and I found a puppy whose owner had dumped her down the road from our house. She was so hungry she squeezed through the 6" gap between our house and the backyard fence post, or so I thought. Many years later my son told me he had coaxed her with puppy bones. My former said absolutely not. This magnificent dog lived well over 16 years! We sadly had to help her go 10 years ago. There was not one day I regretted saving this beautiful dog. Blue came to you!

I will probably get some hate for this, but I'll say it anyway. You both have valid emotions/reasons/ideas for wanting/not wanting a dog at this point. Your boyfriend has had dogs as pets so he has the experience of owning and caring for one, and you don't. He understands what is needed to properly caring for a dog, and you don't. He has a very valid reason for wanting to know what breed or mix this dog is, not because he is wanting to be hateful, but because he wants to protect you both. You have stated you don't have a yard or your own home yet. My suggestion would be to listen to your boyfriend, as difficult as that may be at this time. You both did a lovely thing in rescuing her, but don't use emotion as a weapon to take on something that may be beyond your means or financial abilities at this point.

DUMP THE BOYFRIEND AND ADOPT THE DOG. She needs you and will love you so so much. I have had friends who have had dogs in apartments before and they were just fine. One had a German Shepherd in a 1 bedroom apartment and she was fine. She just slept in the living room and got her exercise in a nearby dog park and this friend Sarah worked full time as a check-out girl in the local supermarket meaning she worked long hours and for little money and she has had Sasha the dog for 8 years now and she is a really happy healthy dog. Do what YOU want to do NOT what your boyfriend wants. You will only spend the rest of life wondering what had happened to her if you don't.

Just adopt her. Without any thinking because you will always find and excuse. You'll figure it out later. All those reasons that your boyfried said really are not relevant and nothing can compare to saving this dogs life. Trust me, just do it. I asure you it will be the best choice you made, you'll se. I cant describe you what amount of love both of you will recive from that dog so dont miss that.

I agree with everything except for the part pit bull thing. Dogs can be a huge commitment and he brought up valid concerns. You could just tell him you need to adopt this dog. It sounds like so far you are just asking him if its OK (I could have totally misread that). You are ready to take the financial hit, your apartment complex allows animals, which also means there is probably a dog park nearby, you are active people, and you already have a connection with Blue. Go for it!! I have a cat with issues now otherwise I'd love to get a dog. I would much prefer to wait for a yard but that isn't happening anytime soon.

Anybody who's had a strong story with an animal will tell you that they didn't get to wait for the "right moment" to adopt ; most of the times they were not even prepared or thinking about it when it happened. But they instantly knew it was the animal who had chosen them and what they had to tod from then on was obvious, they felt it deep inside. Go get that dog otherwise you'll regret it fro the rest of your life. That moment you spent with her in the car, she put her trust in you, and after all the bad things she might have endured because of human beings, that trust is not something you can ignore. It's too important for both you and her. Your boyfriend should understand and accept it if he is the right person for you actually.

Ive had two large dogs in an apartment. In some ways I feel like they got more exercise in the apartment than in the home I live in now. It was required to walk them everyday for the bathroom and such. Now when I let them in my backyard they just lay around :p

You may have to choose between the dog and the boyfriend. The dog will love you forever, the boyfriend, well, maybe not. The dog doesn't care how you look, if you brushed your teeth, if you fart, if you cook or eat cheese and crackers. It just loves you, no strings attached. However, a dog will also poop and pee on your carpet (at least once), will probably chew up some of your furniture, and stink up the place (dogs just have a dog smell). It's your choice. I pick the dog.

We have a 19kg dog and live in a normal apartment. If you can walk her out two or three times per day there's no problem. She will surely feel better in an apartment rather than in a kennel. Dogs need love and I think you have so much love to give her. Leave your boyfriend, he doesn't understand.

Listen- as someone who considers her dogs family, go get your goddamn pupper. Don't tell him if necessary. Go get her and then surprise him. Nothing he can do then. Obviously this is last resort and not something I'd usually advocate people doing, but I've seen how people can bond with dogs. She's your pupper. Get her home to you.

Sorry I will be telling you about myself but my story might help you. Last year, my bf and I got married, had a nice day... but it all ended when my Mom had a heart attack whilst dancing during the reception. She passed, leaving me completely shattered. I was off work for nearly a year, having to deal with grief, PTSD and depression. At some point though, I felt I needed to foster a cat for a nearby no-kill shelter. My husband, who told me many times before that he didnt want any animal at home, said yes straight away. Why ? Because he knew I am good with pets, he knew I needed to bond with a live being to have a reason to stay alive, and he just compromised. Now, we are the proud parents of a beautiful black cat with FIV, named Cali. To me, that’s what love is about. You can’t choose what will make you sad, but you can choose what makes you happy. And if adopting Blue is what makes you happy, you should do it...

speaking from experience here; take a step back and listen to what your S.O. is saying from a non emotional point. He has legit concerns (not about the breed deal but anyway) 2nd, take a look at your relationship.... is this experience going to make you have hateful feelings towards him forever? Have there been other things in the past that you wanted to do and thought is was a good idea, then he came in a put a kibosh to it? 3rd, not sure if you believe or not, but did God put that dog in your life for a reason? These are all just opinions, we don't know your life... in the end it's ultimately your decision

Your heart is in the right place and I empathise but please be honest with yourself about how you will make it work currently with no garden, insufficient funds for vet bills and leaving a dog with no known history alone for up to 5 hours a day. THEN ask yourself what will happen to the little girl if you break up with b/f and she's left for up to 8 hours a day with even less money for emergencies. As an abandoned dog, she might have particular needs, regardless all dogs need their pack, isolating them while you're out at work is not right. You might need to wait until you're in your 30s or 40s to get a dog - I did but I'm so glad I waited till the time was right for the dogs as well as my need for them. Please continue to do what's best for her rather than you.

I think you should put your boyfriend for adoption and keep the dog. Just kidding (I'm not. Am I ?), pitbulls behave the way we treat them and dogs NEVER are agressive, unless they're nuts, which is very rare. She obviously isn't, regarding her behaviour with you. I think you you should tell him what you told us, and for the money issue, just make your counts (I don't know if it's the right way to say it in english) to convince him. Furthermore, if she's young, there's very little chances (just see a vet' to checkup on her) that she's gonna have health issues (for now), so you have enough time to find a full-time job to earn more money. And obviously, if your lifestyle is active, there's no problem with living in a flat with a dog, as long as you take care of it. If unfortunately she feels alone, just adopt another pet. I hope (if you see this message), that it helped a little to convince your bloody stubborn/moron boyfriend.

He is controlling because he doesn't have the same opinion as her? Good lord, you must be a nightmare to deal with. He had extremely valid concerns. You don't have to agree they are insurmountable but to call him controlling is just awful given what he did for the dog and how rational he is.

Adopt her. We lived in a three room apartment with three dogs and two cats, both working full time but he office hours and I shift + I also had a horse i visited every day. She's already your dog and she trusted you and committed, opened her heart and is now on death row instead. Today I'm single, have three adopted big dogs, work full time, have three cats and three horses, 16 chickens, a big house and a big garden. The love they give me everyday is priceless. It wasn't my ex partners choice to leave, I made it for him and I'm doing great.

To the people that are keeping it real and has been down-voted. Do not worry, this won't kill you in any way. These guys are doing it because they can't stand when somebody has a different opinion than theirs. I have been even labeled as a troll because somebody didn't liked my thoughts. I deeply believe that if you're won't be able to keep a pet, you shouldn't be giving them a false hope of a home. I hope the vet won't put Blue to sleep.

Did you ever think the bf does want you to get the dog because it that some of the attention away from him?? I truly know you would be better off with the dog. The fact that he can't see how important this is to you is a huge sign of not only immaturity but also selfishness.

:" not only immaturity but also selfishness." He's immature to have valid reasons like money, work and no yard? Or is he immature and selfish because he doesn't let her have her way? Please look up the definition of hypocrisy in the dictionary and then figure out why people hate modern feminists so much.

This guy is right. He had dogs before and understands the responsibilities and she is like a small kid, i want and this is all. If she wants a pet at home she should get a cat that dont need to much attention to his personality.

Sister, take it from someone a bit older and hopefully wiser: Men will come and go in your life. That is a fact. Some will be good guys, some bad. Some kind, some unkind. Conversely, The love you get from an animal is unconditional and forever. Read: See ya' later boyfriend.

I THINK YOU SHOULD TOTALLY ADOPT HER!!!! Think of it this way, dogs will love you NO MATTER WHAT. Humans.... Not so much... Dogs are like therapists on all fours. Blueberry would love and care for you until her last breath. Especially since you saved her and gave her another BETTER chance at life. So I say forget your boyfriend's b******t reasonings and ADOPT THAT AMAZING DOG!! 💙

I got my dog by fostering her at first. We had her initially for 2 weeks but she's now a permanent addition. My boy was reluctant at first for very similar reasons but he loves her so much ❤️

You've got to adopt her. There's never a right time, you always end up looking back and wishing you'd just gone for it.

Here's how to decide: Lock the boyfriend and the dog in the closet for a couple of hours. When you open the door, notice which one is really, REALLY glad to see you. That's the one you keep.

Lmao! Dude, you're evil! So, how is she supposed to get her man in the closet? Dog will go in there, sure. The man, uh, maybe open the door, push him in and.... close it REALLY fast??!! Lmao!! See, you're evil, you got me thinking about how to get a man in a closet. Bad!!

Honestly, He is your boyfriend not your boss. If he is that controlling now... he will only be worse in a few years. Get the dog! Ditch the boyfriend.

He is controlling because he doesn't have the same opinion as her? Good lord, you must be a nightmare to deal with. He had extremely valid concerns. You don't have to agree they are insurmountable but to call him controlling is just awful given what he did for the dog and how rational he is.

I don't see how the response is a problem. They don't have the money or time to take care of a dog right now. Makes sense to me.

Adopt Blue. I know it's a very difficult decision to make specially that you love your boyfriend too much. If your by loves you, he will love Blue. This is the accurate time to measure up how much your boyfriend loves you. Isn't it that if we've

* Isn't it that if we love someone, we also love who they love? So it's just fitting to adopt Blue. You will both do yourselves a great favour, Dear. Goodluck, Honey.

I think that if you couldn't deal with a dog's costs, you shouldn't have given that dog any false hopes of love. Adopt the dog you've bound to. Don't betray her.
