It is probably impossible to find a food that everyone loves, there will always be someone who hates it with all their heart. Even the most common things that a lot of recipes may contain. It is interesting how different people can eat the same thing, but have a different reaction to the taste or even perceive it differently.

Even though the Latin maxim says that there is no point in disputing tastes, people love to give their opinions on food. Reddit user jamboamericano wanted to know people’s opinions on foods that are hyped up but “quite simply suck.” They received 3k responses so take a look at the most popular ones that quite a lot of people agreed on.

Consistently mediocre, albeit overpriced. If I go there for a cup of tea, I know about what I'm going to get for four bucks. In most locations, most of the year, I can order white hot chocolate with peppermint and cinnamon, and get as much. It's a safe bet.

Like a lot of shellfish, it has to be fresh from the ocean. If you have it in a tank at the supermarket where they just sit there it's not worth it. Back on PEI, Canada; 70% of houses are having fresh lobster on Mother's Day right off the boat. Can't beat it.

Lobster was originally used in the prisons of France for the prisoners. The royals started eating lobster after one of their own got locked up in the bastille and was forced to eat it. Thus it went from being prison food to being a delicacy.

Many people tend to overcook it, which is what makes it flavorless. A good friend of mine was the seafood buyer for a very well known restaurant chain in Seattle and would make me a lobster dinner about once a month (he got comped a ridiculous amount of amazing seafoods). It was better than anything I had ever gotten in a restaurant.

If you are ever near the coast in New England ( the Northest corner of the US) or the East coast of Canada, and get a chance to try it fresh you absolutely should. Don't bother in a fancy restaurant or more than 50 miles from the coast. It has a similar flavor to other shellfish like shrimp or crab.
