Company Ends Up Spending $65/Week More After Not Listening To Employee’s Reasoning On Meal Limits
What do you do when your boss puts their foot down? You comply. Maliciously. Recently, redditor u/cricketrocks shared the way they got back at their boss for limiting their food expenses. The situation was pretty good for both the company and the employee, but the new project manager probably felt the need to establish themselves. They reduced the amount u/cricketrocks could spend on food, thinking it would save the company money, but the move totally backfired. Instead of claiming £150 a week for meals, u/cricketrocks is now cashing £200.
Do you smell that? I think the HR people are brewing their coffee for a new meeting.

I guess that's a fair point but when your job requires you to go in expensive places I think it can also provide money for the expenses. Plus, the bosses always have those kind of money for themselves, if you're a good working employee you deserve it too, it's not like those money are going to get in your pockets later anyway.
Load More Replies... It's nice he used the extra food money for the homeless, but he seems rather arrogant. I have never heard of a company covering alcohol in personal meal reimbursement. Entertaining clients? sure. But personal meals? never. He is lucky they do. He even mentions they are very flexible. And 40 pounds per day?!? That's $51-ish. That is more than enough to eat well. If you want to go to a fancy restaurant for some scotches, maybe you pay that out of pocket, as you would if you weren't traveling.
Are we sure this isn't meant to be in that "family struggles on only $350,000 a year" post?

I work for the state of California and the limits are $7/$11/$23. Doesn't matter if you only spent $5 for lunch you don't get to claim $29 for dinner just because the total is the same. We also don't require receipts but if you get audited by the tax agency, you'd better have those receipts.
What is stupid is most places go based on the US government per diem which changes based on location like San fran would get more per diem than Buffalo NY but our university caps the limit to $32 per day and it is broken down per meal like 7 for breakfast, 10 for lunch and 15 for dinner and if Lunch or breakfast is provided at where ever you are you lose that amount of per diem. but international the per diem rates are governed by the government rate so my hubby who travels a lot will claim per diem when he travels internationally to cover the extra from domestic travel... even then he doesn't claim full per diem because international it can be upwards of $100 per day + huge hotel per diem.
I process claims related to relocating employees for a large government department with over 100,000 members. When those members are entitled to claim their meals, they get $91.50/day - no receipts required. When relocating their families, they can claim the same amount, per person, per day. If they are moving 3000 km, they are allowed to take 6 days to get from point A to point B. So a family of 5 ppl will be given $457.50 per day for 6 days - or $2,745 just for meals. No receipts!! And it doesn't matter how old the kids are - a 1 week old child is still given $91.50.
