Last week, running late, I came into the kitchen in my faculty building and asked "Is the conference lunch still in progress?" The lady said: "Sorry, darling, it's finished and I've packed all the leftovers and handed them to the organizers." I wasn't looking for the conference food (though I could have, being one of the participants.) I was looking for the people. But apparently I have the words "I love food" written across my face. Even on the rare occasion I'm not actually looking for it, people feel the need to explain and be sorry if there's none ;)

I honestly thought a foodie was someone who knew and appreciated food and cooking in all its variety. I see I was wrong: a foodie, it seems, prefers day-old microwaved fries, as long as they are greasy enough. You live and learn.
