Pilot Shares Plane Etiquette Rules That Some People Still Can’t Seem To Grasp

Being a polite passenger starts with just a few easy steps, but it can make a huge difference for everyone on board.

However, learning the proper flying manners can be tricky as there are plenty of egoistic travelers, instilling annoying habits into others through their bad examples.

Luckily, pilot and content creator Almost Captain Morgan is here to remedy the situation. Using social media to share valuable industry-insider information, she also shares a lot of educational lessons on how to behave on a plane.

More info: Instagram | TikTok | YouTube

Meet Morgan, she’s a Chicago-based pilot who operates a Boeing 737 and believes that air travel could be a lot better if everyone follows a few simple rules

So she created a TikTok video, teaching passengers proper flying etiquette

Here's my changes airlines can do to make flying easier for passengers: 1- each seat get 1 overhead bin guaranteed. It's your rule, that space exists now, yet somehow there is always no room for the later passengers because people will still put 2 bag in there. 2- Eliminate the last 2 rows of seat and divide that space up so there is more legroom. Divide the lost revenue up among the other seats. I'll pay an extra $5-10 to be able to feel my legs. 3- Fix your schedules so that you actually depart on time. I'm not talking about weather related events. But when 80% of your flights are always delayed, and the weather is nice, it means you overbooked your routes. Cancel a couple routes until you get it fixed.

I would like to see regulation on minimum seat size. It's easy to say, "well just pay more for a better seat." That's not always a viable option. It's not like there is a full range of competition available to customers. You may only have a choice of a few airlines in your area. Some offer better seating options, some don't. Some only offer more comfortable seating in business and first class, but charge thousands more for those seats rather than having any mid-range upgrade option. Airlines keep shrinking the seats in economy class to try to offer the lowest price to the point that even an average-sized man is going to have his shoulders sticking into the adjoining seats. This issue isn't confined to just larger people. If there was a minimum standard size, then the playing field would be even as far as price. That might mean the price goes up a little, but I think most people would tolerate a slightly higher price in economy to not have to snuggle with a stranger for hours.

Heard a story about a gate agent rebooking all the passengers of a canceled flight. Businessman marches past the line, slaps his ticket on the counter, and announces "I HAVE to be on this flight and it HAS to be first class!" Gate agent says "Sir, if you'll get in line, I'll do my best to rebook your flight." He says "Don't you know who I am?!" She activates the P.A. system and says "Attention passengers, we have a gentleman who's forgotten who he is. If anyone can help, please approach the counter." People in line start to snicker. Red in the face, he bellows "F**k you!" She leans to the microphone, smiles, and says "I'm sorry, Sir, you'll have to wait in line for that, too."

I take issue with the the idea that you can't put your seat back. They only recline like a inch, and I have a bad back so every bit helps. It's not my fault if the person behind me has long legs. AITA?

Nope. I have a bad back too. It’s not our fault we need to put our seats back and forth to help on a flight. I have pain even with taking over the counter pain medications. I have a bad back, your tall. And the argument ensues. It’s the airline’s fault for cramming as many seats in as possible for more profit. I also think that’s a safety issue. I don’t care how many exits there are. That kind of cramming is unsafe. And if someone suddenly becomes critically I’ll it’s tough to help them when there’s so little space.

I recently had an hour and a half flight where I was stuck between the fattest guy on the plane (window seat) and the tallest guy on the plane. Both took up both armrests leaving me with none. There wasn't anything I could do - they just spilled over. I've never been so uncomfortable on a flight before. I'd asked to move once already. I was seated by an exit. I'm not tall enough to reach the overhead locker and needed my bag with me for various reasons. Really really hate flying these days whereas I used to love it.

They should have a do and don't at the website of each airline. Like this is ok but don't do that. And some hard fast ones like drinking or drugs or milehigh club or what to do if your kids gonna be a screamer. It's a service not like some people get in there and act like everyone else didn't buy a ticket too

Now you got these !diots putting their luggage up in front when they seated in the back thinking its faster to go out when landed… this counter productive stup!dity causes the people who sit up front having to exit first to crawl through all the impatient isle risers at landing as their luggage is now stored further back slowing down the process of getting of the plane completely… they need to check chairs again when entering the plane like in the past so that these knuckleheads carry their bags with them to their own seats overhead luggage compartment.
