This Dad Wanted To Test His Kid’s Values, But The Unexpected Results Made Him Cry

Boys don’t cry, right? Wrong, obviously. Although studies do show that women cry much more frequently than men for a variety of biological, social and cultural reasons.

According to a study carried out in the Netherlands, the average frequency of males crying is between 0.5 and 1.5 times a month. This might seem surprisingly high to some people, who may never have seen a male friend, spouse or relative shed a tear.

Some circumstances seem more culturally acceptable than others, in Western countries at least, for guys to let it all out. Watching Titanic? Keep that quivering lip under control, buddy. Football team winning the league for the first time ever? Go ahead and sob your eyes out! Of course becoming a father brings a whole new plethora of emotions to the table, the miracle of childbirth and watching your cherished progeny flourish can be enough to bring even the coldest of men to tears.

No matter your opinion on the matter, there are many people who just prefer to remain stoic and keep their emotions to themselves. Take this father for example. His child, now grown up, couldn’t remember ever seeing him cry. When asked, he gave a surprisingly emotional and poignant response, outlined in the beautiful little short story below.

Check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments!

My grandson made me cry. His father ignored him after birth, but his step-Dad, took him in as his own. Two weeks ago, my grandson surprised his step-Dad by changing his last name to his stepdad's. He plays for a major collegiate football team and as a way of letting his stepdad know, he wore his new jersey with his new last name onto the field during a bowl game. We all cried. What an awesome kid.

Men doesn't cry is such a wrong expression. I am a very emotional personal, even slightest moment of joy/sadness can make me cry, not the wailing/loud ones, but quite sobs. I have seen my male friends do cry, on their firstborn, on death of loved ones. And related to story - I made my dad cry, in a very unexpected way. He is generally not a pet lover, but one day, I brought home a rescue puppy whose both legs were broken by his previous owners, he saw me tending and taking care of the little guy and he cried like baby. Later, as per my mom - My dad was so happy discovering other side of me that he raised me right and keep crying in happiness.

I've seen my dad cry three times: When I asked him why he and mum split when I was 12, when he buried his mother and then his sister. He's a sensitive man.

The 3 moments I remember I saw my dad cry, was when his dad passed away. When my best friend passed away when she and I were only 13, at her funeral. I saw his tears when I spoke a few words during the funeral. And the third time was when in front of a full gym (at a sports event I used to take part in, but I am in a wheelchair now, and there are no wheelchair competitions). I got called in front just before the medal-ceremony in front of a full gym/stadium, whatever you want to call it. To express their joy and pride that I still pursue my sport and coach pupils from my wheelchair, even though there are no competitions for people in wheelchairs. And I got a cheque to spend on the fund for my disease. I was surprised and happy. I did not need to cry myself. But when I went back to where I was watching the competition from, my dad stood there, crying. This made me cry too. The hurt he has because of my (extremely painful) disease. I love him endlessly!

When my dad had open heart surgery at the age of 70, he promised me he would live at least 10 more years. At age 74 he cried when he told me he might not keep his promise. He died 3 day later...

This is one of the things I love about my father. He's a gentle, kind man. Not perfect by any stretch and we definitely get along better now that I'm an adult, but his kindness, sensitivity, and sweetness are what makes him a good father to myself, my brother, and our four sisters.

I don't see my dad cry a lot, but both he and I get really emotional at movies and the like. The last time I saw him cry was when we watched the Iron Giant about a year ago.

I've never seen my dad cry...I mainly only saw him a for few hours every few weeks....Dads I don't care if your the head of a company or working at McDonald's, try your hardest to be with your kids every second you can, because that's what matters to them.

I hate seeing men cry. I saw my Dad cry once and it devastated me. He had always been like a rock and the woman that made him cry was such a lowlife that I couldn't believe she could reduce him to this state of emotion!

It's not that nice if you think about the fact that he didn't know what's going on. Just went to his dad because he wasn't interested in any of the toys. That's it. A 3-year old is not an adult, they don't complicate things yet, as we do.
