Misogyny, the term used to describe societal inequity, is evidenced by many everyday things, like the gendered wage gap, pink tax, lack of women in positions of power, and the unmistakable influence of patriarchy penetrating every level of our lives, from households to politics. Whether you’re being mansplained to or fall victim to the career-destroying prerogatives of men, it means that sadly, you’re no stranger to the ways misogynistic society operates.

But luckily there are many bright women and men out there who are not willing to put up with the sexist BS they witness or experience firsthand day to day. And out of the frustration, hilarious, spot-on, merciless, and witty comebacks are born to target any misogynistic remark.

Scroll down to read through the most entertaining comebacks below that will remind us we don’t have to stay silent when someone is being a jerk.

Some Words From Maisie Williams

Some Words From Maisie Williams

CheesyChips Report

Misogyny functions as an ideology or belief system that has accompanied patriarchal or male-dominated societies and continues to place women in subordinate positions with limited access to power and decision making. But thankfully, in present times, it’s not being taken lightly anymore as more and more women and men are willing to step up and challenge this ancient and inherently harmful belief.

But although the term has been all over the media in the past 5 years, its real meaning is still widely confused. Kate Manne, a Cornell philosophy professor and the author of “Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny” argues that misogyny is really not about male hostility or hatred towards women, as it’s commonly assumed. Instead, it’s about controlling and punishing women who challenge male dominance.

In an interview with Vox, Kate explained: “There’s a tendency to define misogyny as this deep hatred in the heart, harbored by men toward girls and women. I define misogyny as social systems or environments where women face hostility and hatred because they’re women in a man's world—a historical patriarchy.”

And what’s really alarming about misogyny is that it is something we practice almost unconsciously. The hostility towards women is something that’s a priori embedded in our culture where people internalize it through social norms and customs. In reality, it’s a trap for anyone born in an already misogyny-fueled society.

This happens too much and needs to stop. We are not just wives, parents, children etc. We are individuals and should have our achievements shared as individuals and not because we are related to someone else famous.

According to Kate, such hostile behavior comes from the fact that many people feel attached to the positions they believe are their birthright. “When men think women are taking opportunities and privileges away from them, when they think women are challenging male dominance, you get backlash,” she explained.

They Are Probably Not Funny, Just A Terrible Person

LauraLikesWine Report

As a way of dealing with misogyny in society, Kate believes it all comes down to men in positions of power accepting that women can surpass them without having wronged them. At this point, we are still far from this point, but externalizing our discontent is crucial in making things better, hence every debate, whether IRL or online, is a small step towards an equal, respectful society.

It reminds me of a joke. A guy goes to the doctor. "What's wrong?" the doctor asks. "I hurt all over my body" he says. "Show me exactly where it hurts" says the doctor. "Here, here, here, here and here". "Well, you should get that finger checked!!" hahaha

In the American South people will say "he's just being a good ol' boy!" and somehow that would excuse his heinous crimes. It just meant to me that he's "one of us" versus some evil person with slightly darker skin or who goes to a different church than we all do.

I think the thing is that, in this case, these men had enough money and power to just make it go away, and the people that support them largely don't care about that stuff anyway. For those who don't have that money and power, accusations can ruin a life, but the way to solve that is to ensure that every accusation is correctly followed up on and necessary prosecutions made. Just saying "don't accuse" absolutely does not help, in fact it makes things worse.

Maybe half the police force in the US and many non developed countries. But not in most of the western world. We don't have a huge gun issue. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. If the reoffender ends up killing someone, the judge/parole board have blood on their hands. Hopefully that satisfies some of you.

To the know it all who made a comment about nurse’s salaries, I use to work in collections for auto loans. A lot of nurses defaulted on their payments. I know this might come as a surprise but people, nurses have other bills to pay, many have children, and many are single mothers. Just because someone is a nurse doesn’t automatically equal wealthy.

How come it's always single mom and that is seen as a bad thing. If ever there is a single dad he's sung like a hero. Unless he goes with his baby girl to the ladies toilet to change the diaper (because the changing tables are if at all only in the ladies toilet), then he's a pervert.

I'm a 3rd degree black belt with the skill to back that rank. When guys I date find out I do martial arts (I avoid mentioning it for a few dates) it's either cute (and condescending as hell to the work I did to earn that title) or they're intimidated and seem to need to prove their strength/fighting abilities by describing their own prowess. Can't it just be cool that I can kick ass? Like, if a guy's intimidated is it because I could defend myself against them? Actually curious about this.

I do indeed love strong women. Just as some women and men say they love a confident, strong man, I love women like that. Traditionalists would say that makes me less of a man (or a cuck), but, well, they’re stupid and only feel strong if they can find someone “weak” to compare themselves to.

I love a woman, who is stronger than I will ever be and that's exactly what I love about her and what I support her in. Don't assume you know why I want what I want. I get the point, though.

So long as we have common goals in life, there should never be a time when she uses her strength against me. Just like I should never use mine against her. And this goes way beyond gender. Anyone in/with power should be the supporter of the weak, not the crusher of the weak.

re: The marriage that lasted less than a year. Literally, as soon as the ring was on my finger I was suddenly TOO - I was too loud, too boisterous, told too many jokes, was too "touchy/feely" as in I was no longer "allowed" to hug a male who was not blood related, my clothing was too revealing - EXCUSE ME? I have always dressed conservatively, but a set of 42 D's is hard to hide regardless. I basically told him to go f**k himself. If these qualities were so displeasing why IN THE HELL did you want to marry me? He apparently thought I was going to quit my $50k+ career to stay home and make babies. UM - not sure where the f**k he got that idea since I had said quite clearly that already having a son & a daughter was all I planned to have. WOW. And he was absolutely shocked when I kicked him out of MY house 10 months later.

I can vouch for this. Several exes have said that what they liked about me was my independence. Then they find out I have more power tools than they do—and know how to use them—and suddenly they hate my independence.
