I'm from WV and it's true. A lot of restaurants and churches also made meals/snacks for the kids as well. We do what we can to take care of each other.
As someone who now has to live on Disability, a lot of times we don't have enough money to make it til the end of the month, but I have given people my last dollar because I am blessed with wonderful friends who care about me and will help me out. Not everybody has someone who cares, but we should all care about others in our communities!
I used to work at a middle school for nearly 18 yrs as a lunch lady doing the lunch cards. Kids came through line with their lunch & swiped their cards into my computer. I can't even count how many children ate even if they didn't have any money because I can't let a kid go hungry. And I said if the school wants to fire me for it go ahead because I won't let a kid go hungry if I can help it My head cook & I agreed with me. Then we got a new principal & he also agreed with me. Sad thing is one of the Moms actually through a fit because I fed her children. She would send them to school with a can of carrots or other veggies & expect them to survive on that. So, I had the kids get a real meal. I never charged them for it but she got angry anyway. Oh well.

That teacher is a saint! This post goes to show just how sick our society has become. Congress votes to spend another $717 billion on "defense" while teachers aren't paid enough and kids go hungry.
I get the humanity part of the teachers trying to be everything. But it is outrageous that the board of education creates these exact situations.
They also set up free daycare places for parents that couldn't take off work to watch their kids

I have been dealing with depressions for about two years with having worse moments through out the last year. On top of that i have been single for nearly the same time.
