My little dog is dreadful in the morning - she gets out of bed with her fur every which way bar the direction it should go in (rather like my hair) and then flops down in front of her bowl as though she's just run a marathon. Then she blearily eyes the food before my husband gives in and takes some out of the bowl and puts it nearer her mouth. Finally she will make the monumental effort to take some out of the bowl herself and slowly crunches it up. She takes ages to eat it which thoroughly frustrates my other dog who is a speed-eater! She's only a year old and has nothing wrong with her. She's just, funnily enough, exactly like me and rubbish first thing in the morning. She learned a lot from example by watching my older dog (begging, sitting up, sleeping in our bed!) - hope it wasn't me that taught her to be useless first thing!

We have a dog the same way. I have to take time out of my day to make sure she eats. I sit with her in the kitchen while she eats. After every couple of bites, she does a sideways look to make sure I am watching, not just in the room. I have to encourage her to eat and I say encouraging words every minute or so. Animals, can't live without them.
Our first dog was the same way after she went blind at 1 1/2 years old. She was losing weight fast, so since we usually eat in the living room we just brought her dog dish in there and she ate beside me.

I've noticed that my daughter's cat does something similar..she'll eat from her bowl every time we're eating, then she climbs to the chair next to my oldest daughter and waits until we're finish...
OMG lol. My youngest does the same thing! She only eats when we do, and she always brings a mouthful of food to the bedroom when its time for bed, lol. She spits it out and saves it for a midnight snack. Every night, its hilarious.
My dogs are the exact same way. They'll grab a bite from their bowls in the kitchen and bring it to where I am and eat it, then back they go for more.

That's the beauty of cats. My little one is getting on a bit now and she follows us around and always eats when we are with her.
I have a serious sleep disorder. This leads to me staying up for ridiculous long hours just so I can feel what sleepy feels like. Sometimes I'll stay in bed a long time, and my schedule is always changing. Consequently, my cats will not bother to eat unless I go downstairs to where their food is (and replace the refused food with fresh food for the Maine C**n girl). My two cats will let themselves get so empty that they puke up stomach bile rather than eat on their own sometimes. The boy kitty has a history of overeating and puking as a result, so he oscillates between not eating until I direct him to the food, and eating too much (because it's been too long and he's panicked) and puking it up immediately. My cats are proof to me that animals have a serious problem with eating when we aren't ruled entirely by survival. They are indoor-only cats whose entire existence is based around my routines, and they do not like the irregularity of those routines.
My cat is the same. Sometimes he force me to go to kitchen (where is his food) only to me wtching him eat.
My cat likes to eat with us also. I put his food in a dish on the floor beside the table and he is happy.
He just wants to be with you! Our rescue dog, did something similar. I’d feed him in the kitchen, and one evening, he took his bowl, and brought it in to the living room, and onto his rug! And he waited until I was ready to eat my dinner before he ate his! Now, as my husband gets home later, he will eat part of his dinner with me, and save some to eat, with his dad. I’m sure, just like your Sebastian, he wants to “share” mealtime with the family! It shows how bonded he is to you all! That’s very special. We also had a cat, that noticed we took ice water to bed in red plastic cups, so it was cold if we needed a drink.. well, he started trying to drink out of my cup! So, our bedtime ritual, became his and he got his own cup of ice water! He loved it! He’d get up on the bed with me, and I’d hold the cup so he could drink out of it! It’s interesting what our pets pay attention to, and chose to share with us! Makes me happy

Cats are very sociable. Mine hates to be alone. Will crawl up into a little ball to fit into whatever room is available while he's with you so he's not in the way. I leave the room for more than a minute, he follows.
Maybe he used to be a family member in a past life. I love this. My cat does not sit at the table, but he believes if I am cooking, he is eating too. I am okay with that. (relax social justice warnings with legs...I dont give him people food, he gets his food and it is regulated throughout the day so he does not overeat).
My pug, Velvet, would rather die of starvation than go to her bowl and eat alone. I have to get my phone or a magazine to look at while she eats. I love her but...for the love of God, just eat like a regular dog!

My two cockatiels do that too ! Eating is a sit-down ritual in the birdroom. I know they don't eat when I'm not there because none of their food is touched ... and they're starving. They eat from their "buffet" of Special-K, crispy noodles, granola and cashews as well as from mama-bird (me). Are they spoiled rotten or what ?

I have been dealing with depressions for about two years with having worse moments through out the last year. On top of that i have been single for nearly the same time. Reading those stories gives me the feeling that i am not alone and this particular list made me smile and cry like a damn fool. But it helped. Thank you all for this.

Ok, jerks at BP, I am 6'4" 250 pounds off tattooed cowboy boot wearing man. Running a police impound yard, with truck drivers and ticked off people coming and going all day. Who has made it through like 4 pages and am FREAKIN BROKEN!! I am not allowed to cry at work!!! hahahahaha

I got to work knowing that I had woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, so I immediately decided I would Google to find something uplifting the moment I sat down at my desk.
