It should be one of the first items in a new delivery driver’s training manual – Do not throw the package. Because although this basic instruction should be obvious enough to all but the very dimmest of trainees, there are apparently some that still slip through the net and decide that it’s to treat other people’s stuff like a football.
We get that it can be a crazy hectic job – especially at this time of year – and drivers are underpaid and overworked. Packages are also designed to be able to handle a bit of rough treatment, and time is of the essence. But still. A little respect for the job shouldn’t be too much to ask.
This guy is clearly a trainee, and he still has quite a lot of learning to do. Waltzing up to make his delivery, all seems normal enough, although he is not in uniform and his truck isn’t marked. Perhaps he is a subcontractor of FedEx?
Having gotten as close as a couple of metres to his delivery point, he suddenly decides that enough is enough. Walking is for suckers, man! He casually tosses the package onto the porch and turns back to his truck.
Little did he know that the package contained a $1500 camera lens, which you might imagine to be fairly fragile, and he was being captured on film as he made his careless delivery.
In the end, he had to go back and get his supervisor anyway – the package needed a signature. Something else that could’ve been foreseen with a little advance planning!
The video was shared by Florida-based photographer Greg Riegler, who confirmed that the worker was a trainee contractor. “I’ve been in contact with FedEx and the local distribution center,” he wrote on Reddit. “It’s a contractor, and the guy tossing the box seems to be training, which is crazy he already doesn’t care about his job.
“After the toss, the other FedEx guy kicks the box over to open the screen door to put a door tag on. They leave the screen door ajar, which for the rest of the day sets off motion alerts to my nest camera as well as blocks half our view. I know packages are supposed to be packed in a way they can handle drops and whatnot, but they shouldn’t be intentionally mishandled.”
Giving an update later on, Riegler assured us that it had eventually been delivered, safe and sound.
“A legit FedEx guy came last night to deliver it,” he said. “Opened the box and inspected the lens in front of the camera after receiving, everything appears fine!
You can watch the entire video for yourself below
The episode had people comparing their own delivery horror stories, as well as calling for the tossing trainee to be relieved of his duties. What do you think? Have you ever experienced a disrespectful delivery like this? Or maybe you have a positive delivery guy story to tell? Let us know in the comments below!
Here’s what people had to say
What’s also scary is how the hell they even get hired.
Load More Replies...A new FedEx driver (recent trainee) left $2500 of my computer and camera equipment under a tree in my neighbors yard (right by the highway) after 6PM. It was not found until my neighbor left for work the next morning and it had rained all night. That package was supposed to be signed for!!! I was home. No one rang my doorbell or even entered my yard. My dogs would have absolutely alerted me. When I contacted FedEx, they denied the package was ever delivered, even after I sent them photos of the package and the barcode. The 'complaint resolution' just to be reimbursed for the rush shipping took 5 months! Thankfully, the contents was insured through the manufacturer.
If they denied the package was delivered you could have just asked them to deliver it, and you would have gotten a good one before you returned the old!

Even on this I'm happy to live in Europe. First of all packages are never left at the door for some stranger to steal it. That's because the sender of the packages is responsible untill I actually have it in my hands. So any delivery service will be out of business very quick when senders loose lots of money on goods that they shipped but were never received or that are returned because the goods were damaged. Burden of proof lies with the sender.
I ordered something a while ago and after it said it was delivered I never saw it by my front door. Reported that I never received it and they sent another one. Fast forward to two months later...my husband is on our front balcony and finds the package! The delivery guy THREW THE PACKAGE ONTO OUR 2ND STORY BALCONY! It was some soap thing and the bottle was completely smashed!
what i don't understand is that these people decide to work there! they know what people do and don't like, what needs to be done, etc. So if they want to do their job badly and complain, then don't work there! you know what you signed up for! dont take that frustration out on good items and people who literally did nothing!
Fragile means throw it underhanded rather than going for the slam dunk so he's probably still employed.
I ordered a $1,600 tv (back in '08 when they were still pricey) and it arrived with a huge puncture in the box, which I was afraid damaged the tv. It did. It cracked the screen and I had to load it in a car and bring it back to Walmart. Exactly what I was trying to avoid by having it delivered. They blamed it on the delivery guy. The one I got ended up being great though, and I still use it. I'm really glad it's not the ultra thin ones they have now, my cats would destroy one of those. They love hanging out and jumping on it. They'd knock over one of the thin ones on day one. Lucy-over-...38bd90.jpg
Canada Post left a 3500$ Gibson guitar on my front deck in the middle of a cold Canadian winter snap for a few hours before I got home. Lucky for me the guitar was still there and lucky for the guitar I'm a seasoned tech who fixes guitars on the side. Neck was affected a bit and needed some TLC... A sound complaint basically ended on deaf ears.... Trust is lost over these guys...
I read a "confessions of a UPS/fed Ed driver, and apparently sometimes the packages are coming so fast off the belt , they have to kind of toss them. Also, I've seen undercover reports where packages with fragile labels are actually subjected to MORE abuse. It can be a well paying job, though. Drivers that have been there for years can make $70k-$80k per year.
99% of the time someone is home and not once, does any delivery company ring/knock to let us know! I f*****g hate it and resent so much that we have to pay for delivery and they can't even do the bare minimum!!!!!!!!!! I had a package arrive from FedEx and the a*****e threw it on the porch and it hit the door. It was pans in a envelope package, so it was pretty f*****g loud!!!! I complained and I hope the dickhead was fired!!!!!
I just sent a delicate piece of china to a friend across the country. I packed it well and am hoping for the best since there was an $11 upcharge (on top of the base shipping charge of $14) to put "fragile" stickers on it. I decided it wouldn't be treated as fragile anyway so what was the point. The clerk was trying to convince me that it would get "special handling" if I paid for the fragile stickers. I wasn't buying it. This BP post pretty much confirms my suspicions.
Damn, Fedex is always the worst. Bless my mailman, lays packages on the porch, UPS for the big stuff are the nicest people. Even Amazon, after a little griping about not leaving items on a covered porch are good about it. Have had more problems with Fedex deliveries though. Lived one place where my UPS guy lived down the street and would make our deliveries after his lunch when we had one, lol. My dogs loved him!
I get along with a lot of delivery drivers and they call out my name as they walk up my path to let me know they are there. The funny part... these are not my parcels! They belong to the neighbours from the rest of the street. 18 in total. I don't mind as the delivery drivers are always nice and friendly and when the neighbours pick up the parcels they always thank me profusely and sometimes bring me a cup cake or something to say thank you. I've told them there's no need and I'm always in (Disabled and can't get out much) I've been lovingly labelled Richy Drop Box and Mr Click 'n' Collect. It's going to get busy soon with Christmas coming up so I'm expecting to put on a few pounds with all the deliveries ha ha ha!
The only company worse than FedEx is DHL... UPS and USPS both have done a great job everywhere I've lived. If given a choice, I always refuse FedEx when I place online orders.
I feel sorry for the Fedex people who have to deliver super heavy stuff (like a clay sink, ffs). I mean they're only human; if you want to have a 200 pound item delivered to you go out & help them bring it in!
Totally inexcusable. That said, I disagree with the OP's comment that "the other FedEx guy kicks the box over to open the screen door..." I watched the video, and he slid it sideways with his foot. He didn't kick it. Big difference.
Just saw on "Inside Edition" that someone's 4lb. Yorkshire terrier was killed by a delivery driver throwing a package over a fence. Just, wow. That could have caused serious damage to a child's head.
I will not use FEDEX!!! I had long waited to order a new computer, and the day I got it, I had just bought a new car, so where did the idiot Fed Ex driver set the heavy computer boxes, on the trunk of my new car!!! I blew up!!! I called Fed ex and gave them a piece of my mind, and yes, there were marks on the paint. Fed ex fixed it and I told them that was the last time I would ever use them intenionally!!!
So this guy is a jerk. Most delivery people go to work and perform well.
I'm a photographer too- the only one allowed to abuse my equipment is me!
He doesn’t look like a regular FedEx driver. They’re in uniform and driving vans with the company logo on them. He must be an outside driver contracted for overflow deliveries or to replace drivers out sick. Regardless, FedEx must be notified and given a copy of the footage, so they can address the problem systemwide. If they don’t, then it’s time to lawyer up—-class action if there are enough other victims.
It's not like he has a stressful job, just lack of respect for peoples property...
I think that the job can be quite stressful. They've got A LOT of packages to deliver on they're route. However, I expect that that fact is made known to them, so if they don't think that they can handle it, they should find another job. Also, FWIW, fed ex and ups drivers can make good money. Up to $70k-$80k per year.... but the guys making that kind of money have been with the company for decades.
Load More Replies...Because not all deliveries are planned very accurate and would it have made a difference? The delivery guy tossed it without ringing the doorbell. You are always so quick to judge.
