People Are Sharing Their Megalophobia Moments, And Here Are 50 Pics That Creeped Them Out (New Pics)
People can be afraid of many things, from darkness to spiders, to you name it. Some of these fears are totally irrational, others come from our childhoods and creep in well into our adult lives. One of such bizarre fears is megalophobia.
Think of large objects like huge cruise ships, animals, skyscrapers, underwater structures, and even statues. Now imagine how’d they look if they were bigger. If the thought of it makes your hair stand on your arm, you may also have some traits of megalophobia.
And this subreddit named r/Megalophobia puts a test on your fear of large objects because it offers one hell of a collection. “A place to post images of all things large, particularly ones that are "triggers" for those with megalophobia,” says their description and 430k devoted members are nodding their heads. Ship Breaking. One Of The Most Dangerous Jobs In The World
It’s usually done in poorer countries such as India and parts of Africa, the job has literally no safety requirements or protection from falls or dismemberment. Bosses buy the ships on contract hiring as many labourers as possible to break down the ship as fast as possible to make profit off the scrap. Most common deaths are falls, getting crushed and asphyxiation from using cutting torches in closed spaces. Most workers get paid Pennies per hour. If the worker survive long enough as a ship breaker they often end up with terrible illnesses from toxic exposure to chemicals or materials.

The Captive Orca Tilikum Looking At Its Trainers
There Have Only Been 4 Human Deaths Caused By Orcas As Of 2019, And Tilikum Was Responsible For 3 Of Them
Watch the documentary "Blackfish" to understand why. Its horrible how they capture and treat Orcas in captivity. As well as many other animals of course.
I cannot believe SeaWorld and others alike are still open and haven't been boycotted. This s**t is close to animal abuse to me.. removing them from their natural habitat for some for profit company.
Load More Replies...Leave them in the wild where they belong. Seems I recently heard he had passed away. Free at last
This is awful, imagine being trapped in your bedroom for your entire life, and forced to perform tricks for an audience.
All to make a handful of ppl millionaires. It's sickening.
Load More Replies...I used to work at Sea World, and one thing they did was separate calves from their moms sending the babies to their Ohio park. There were huge protests, YAY, and my husband was on the security team that was to move the baby. I called all the local tv stations to alert them of the impending move . Unfortunately, it still happened. But so did a lot of very negative publicity. And my divorce. I will give credit to them for the rescues and releases they do.
There's a song by Neko Case called "People gotta lot of nerve" that mentions this. The lyrics say "you know they call them killer whales, but you seem surprised when they pin you down to the bottom of the tank, where you can't turn around and took half your leg, filled both your lungs. When I craved, I ate hearts of sharks." I love her music so much!!
Oh my god, its dorsal fin :-( That's f*cking heart breaking. How are these repugnant places still allowed to exist?!?
As if anyone in their right mind will want to be his next 'trainer'! He obviously doesn't want to be there! It's f*****g awful keeping him locked up, but then I don't know how long he's been in there, maybe he wouldn't be able to adjust to the real ocean? How many more years will it take to make this illegal?!
i wonder how many deaths of orcas have been caused by humans they really shouldnt capture them
Poor Tilikum... everything about this beautiful creatures life is sad as F**k. All the way down to his curved fin. It's very rare to see an orca w/ a curved Dorsal fin in the wild. It's believed that this happens because of the warmer temperatures they're forced to endure in captivity actually disrupts the collagen structure causing the deformation. Orcas in captivity also breach for air WAY MORE often than wild orcas so they're coming into contact w/ warm air more often. Especially when they're forced to live in places like florida where it rarely ever gets cold & even when it does, it doesn't last long. Some scientists think this dorsal fin abnormality is actually linked to depression & stress.. or a combo of all of the above. They theorize that due to orcas only having a limited space to swim & a limited depth they can dive, there isn't enough pressure on their bodies which causes the fin to weaken & deform. No matter what the reason behind it. It's sad nonetheless.
Tilikum died in 2017. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilikum_(orca)
They look so much better in the wild. I am privileged to see them every year, in the wild, along with many other naturally occurring ocean-going creatures, including whales. I absolutely hate "sea worlds".
Maybe shut down these barbaric sites and free these enslaved animals. I gave no sympathy for the humans. These animals are frustrated and abused and fighting back.
Put him back in the ocean so no one deserves to get killed by him anymore
I wonder if he's a bit p****d off by the trainers dressing to look like him?
Weird how this somehow gave me "good for the underdog" vibes, even through my empathy for the people who died -- because orcas Do Not belong in captivity. They are the Utter Ultimate of "only the strong survive" in the seas. They can PLOT together. Given their intelligence, this is equivalent of locking up a person in solitary for life.
then set him free and leave the rest alone. quit exploiting wildlife for the almighty buck .
My best friend works at SeaWorld. They use to have a rather successful captive breeding program which is where their marine life came from, but it has since been shut down due to constant pressure of harassment and protests. Truly heartbreaking to hear how many individuals claiming to be animal rights activist are being arrested or removed for throwing dangerous objects in the water and disrupting the show as just another hypocrisy
Good for Tilikum. He/she shouldn’t be in there as shown by the curled over dorsal. Set him free
"Fin-flop" is all the evidence needed to know that these and all creatures should NOT be kept in captivity and used be for our amusement.
Hey, Human ! You gave a name to this animal (remember what was it)...and captured it...how long are you going to do insanely s#itty things?
Bent fin suggests stress/depression I heard somewhere. Maybe someone can confirm
Just look at his dorsal fin - poor thing needs to be free how nature intended his life to be
This makes me weep. I don't know if there are still people standing outside SeaWorld everyday, protesting, but I hope so.
Sigh, those poor limp fins. That's NOT something that happens in the wild.
It absolutely can happen in wild orca, just not as commonly.

I discoverd a new phobia of mine - no, not megalowhatsitsname but the fear of pictures without context. There were quite a lot in this list...
That waterfall is scary, and the kitty dunno what happened to it, hope it is safe in the end. If you know you are living that high, should have install a pigeon net, or get a cat enclosure geez!!
Something tells me the cat is fully aware of how to safely get back to wherever it wants. It just won the “find the highest spot to look down on humans with a smug sense of superiority” contest.
Load More Replies...ok, i've got a question for bored panda stuff: is it really that hard to check the truth of what you write?! it became very common you post misinformation! now "underwater waterfall", "frozen waves" - just google to check, you don't have to read seven scientific papers to find out if it is or isn't true...
It's because they just repost s**t from Reddit 90% of the time.
Load More Replies...I've had megalophobia, as well as claustrophobia, since I was two years old---68 years of both things now---and man, can it be a challenge if I'm stupid enough to go someplace where something huge is, and I'm not expecting it. The sheer size of something can trigger a panic attack that's strongly compounded by the desperate fear that I'm being trapped by that enormity....not fun to live with, not at all.
i must not have megalophobia, or only very specific triggers for it. i don't want to be anywhere near a whale, even a skeleton. the "approach" distance for planets scares me in movies (before you get into the atmosphere), and anything closer than our moon tends to bother me if i'm allowed to focus on it. i've had bad dreams where there were multiple planets or moons hanging very very close in the sky. but most of these images didn't do anything for me.
Some of "astonishing" images taken with tele zoom lens. That makes large objects on the background look really enormous and unrealistic compare to what they really are. or bringing horizon closer to the forefront Just optical effects.
