People can be afraid of many things, from darkness to spiders, to you name it. Some of these fears are totally irrational, others come from our childhoods and creep in well into our adult lives. One of such bizarre fears is megalophobia.
Think of large objects like huge cruise ships, animals, skyscrapers, underwater structures, and even statues. Now imagine how’d they look if they were bigger. If the thought of it makes your hair stand on your arm, you may also have some traits of megalophobia.
And this subreddit named r/Megalophobia puts a test on your fear of large objects because it offers one hell of a collection. “A place to post images of all things large, particularly ones that are "triggers" for those with megalophobia,” says their description and 430k devoted members are nodding their heads. It's a mesmerising place. A bit more inland there are really big dunes. It's pure with salt pans and ancient trees. It's a stark and beautiful spot. It's a national park. Unfortunately some sort of awful thing is about to take place. There are plans to make a monorail to this, from the entry of the national park. Srsly what bribing took place too allow this!?

That is a bit terrifying to me: death on both sides (if I got lost, had car trouble, etc. Don't even want to imagine during high tide).

Been there, it's absolutely amazing. Dune 14 is one of the largest dunes in the world.
Just wondering: Would you be able to swim there, or would the sand be so loose that it would be difficult to get out of the water?

There is a South African TV series called 'Voetspore' - Footprints - about a group of 4wheel drive enthusiasts who drive on expeditions around Africa. One of these trips was up the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. While driving along this gigantic dune, they discovered that their timing was a bit out, the tide was coming in, and there was still quite a long way to go! Eventually they ran out of beach width, and the only way they could save their vehicles was by driving them up the side of the dune as high as possible, and hold thumbs! They got back safely, btw.
Actually, it is the Atlantic Ocean. Indian Ocean is on the other side of Africa.
It's my dream to go to Namibia...the Desert Express specifically. One day.....

That waterfall is scary, and the kitty dunno what happened to it, hope it is safe in the end. If you know you are living that high, should have install a pigeon net, or get a cat enclosure geez!!
Something tells me the cat is fully aware of how to safely get back to wherever it wants. It just won the “find the highest spot to look down on humans with a smug sense of superiority” contest.

I've had megalophobia, as well as claustrophobia, since I was two years old---68 years of both things now---and man, can it be a challenge if I'm stupid enough to go someplace where something huge is, and I'm not expecting it. The sheer size of something can trigger a panic attack that's strongly compounded by the desperate fear that I'm being trapped by that enormity....not fun to live with, not at all.
i must not have megalophobia, or only very specific triggers for it. i don't want to be anywhere near a whale, even a skeleton. the "approach" distance for planets scares me in movies (before you get into the atmosphere), and anything closer than our moon tends to bother me if i'm allowed to focus on it. i've had bad dreams where there were multiple planets or moons hanging very very close in the sky. but most of these images didn't do anything for me.
Some of "astonishing" images taken with tele zoom lens. That makes large objects on the background look really enormous and unrealistic compare to what they really are. or bringing horizon closer to the forefront Just optical effects.
