Single Dad Illustrates What It’s Like To Raise A Child, And It’ll Melt Your Heart (38 Pics)
Forgive me for the cliché, but children do grow up so fast. And parents usually document their precious moments by taking pictures or shooting video, but one single dad from Taiwan has his own method of making sure he remembers what it's like raising kids.
To capture the joys and difficulties of parenting he faces in his everyday life, Lan Shengjie (aka BLUE) is illustrating them. "I have been working as a freelance artist since 1999," BLUE told Bored Panda. "I started this cartoon drawings series right after my child was born in 2014." Recently, Sharp Point Press has even published it.
"When you have a kid, a lot of things happen unexpectedly. However, as I started drawing the surprising moments we shared as father and son, I didn't think these cute drawings would get such a hugely positive response."
BLUE said he's usually rushing through his beautiful drawings since he's always taking care of his boy. "I hope that my child can grow up in a safe and healthy environment," he added. "I worry about him becoming a hooligan or anything else that can go wrong along the way. That's why I always try to accompany him as he's growing up and help him when I can."

this terrifies me. I was carrying my baby niece like this one fine day but then it decided to storm. it's a really scary when you felt the instinct to run quickly to shelter but you don't want to shake the baby too much. I never got the courage to carry another baby anymore, I don't want to cause them any hurt.
Lol. Hopefully the museum doesn't have an audio system installed as well.
Finally. A comic series that shows the beauty and wholesomeness of having children and not those cliche ones which constantly whine and make parenting looks undesirable. This is honestly beautiful and the art is just :')
Comic?
Yes. It's a webcomic and I think he also sells the hard copy of it.
Ha my mistake
I agree with you, a father can do just as well as a mom !!!
This one doesn’t exactly whine, but it makes parenting look undesirable too. The snot sucking thing? The mind control thing? Stepping on LEGO, cleaning up messes, diaper changing, being rude to a waiter. He doesn’t paint a nice picture of it, he shows reality. The drawings are well done though!
They're done sympathetically for the dad, because ALL little children do at least some of those things, but the dad is shown as being so loving to the little one. He still adores being a parent, it's very obvious, even if it can be hard at times. The dad is shown as learning what all new parents learn about some of the things little kids do that can be momentarily awkward of painful, but you learn to live with them and, later on, laugh at them, even with the child when they grow up!
I didn't see that at mind control, I saw it as him seeing things from a new perspective meaning with a child's sense of things.
beautiful, real situations, awesome drawings & colors

I worked with kids for 20 years, and most of them had absent fathers. It's beautiful, to see a father caring so much for his child in these artworks, especially one doing it on his own.
I liked all of them. The color looks great, the perspective was different and interesting and I could feel the love and the struggle to make the paints as well to grow a child.
You couldn't have said it better. This is such a lovely series of great illustrations.
Interestingly, many situations are relateable even to a non-single dad, and despite obvious cultural differences. The drawings resonate that this father truly cares.
I'm raising 3 girls alone. Mom bowed out early and refuses to pay child support. Aside from being tired a lot I have no complaints.
These were all beautiful, so loving and real.
These are amazing! Very well done!
Oh shit, it will? I prefer my heart unmelted, thank you very much.
so beautiful at capturing those everyday moments of joy (or pain) as a parent!
That’s sad
Dads are great, they are often underestimated but dads do a great job and I am very grateful to have had such a wonderful parent who taught me nothing but love, patience and kindness, thank you dear dad x
My son is at the same age and every frame is like us... ;_;
Good job... excellent drawings!
These illustrations are so perfect and precious <3
Awsome !! superb representation, All the best.
I love everything about these pictures! The art work is stunning, subject matter is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
I love these pictures. You are left with an overwhelming sense of love that a parent has for their child. So beautiful.
Really nice
wonderful pics
These are breathtaking
"Look Mama, we make snow, came play with us, maybe we can get more toilet paper." My son. Oooooh my God,how I gonna clean this mess ?!?! Oooooh he looks so happy and proud, was my fault let the door open,so I will just explain him to not do it again, but now I just gonna play with him. . . Now he grow and don't want to play with "snow" anymore. They grow so fast. 😥
I am a single dad as well.it's true, taking care of my baby alone is really hard, specially when it run out of milk in the middle of the night.
My heart melted... This is too much
I love the artist's style, it's daydream-ish, one can sense the nostalgia.
I would like to know how he became a single dad.
Man, this brings tears to my eyes, I haven't thought about parenting my son in his younger years by myself in a long time and these images perfectly capture the feeling of those fleeting moments.
Single dads melt our hearts, single mothers harden them.
Awwwww all of these are beautiful! <3
Very impressive !!!
It's a nice change of pace looking at art of a parent introducing his child to the world while he is trying to cope with that same world as an adult. These were beautifully rendered and showed the reality of when a parent is full-on "parenting". I wish my parents and I had this much positive contact during my childhood.
