You’re right, the clothes have nothing to do with it. Nothing the woman wears or does can ever—-so should never—-indicate she was “asking for it”. I mean, people who have the habit of blaming victims for their own rapes need to get real A. S. A. F*****g P. What kind of perverse logic makes them think a woman ever “asks” to be raped, ffs? Rape is not a crime of attraction or sex; it’s a crime of domination, humiliation, and having power over the victim’s life. Even women covered head to toe in a niqab risk being assaulted or raped. Back in the day when women wore long dresses, corsets, pantaloons, and several layers of petticoats, all covering them everywhere but their heads, they still ran the risk of rape or sexual assault. Clothing style does not matter to a rapist, because a woman is merely prey, and therefore an opportunity for the predator to indulge their sick power fantasies. Teach your sons to respect women, and to assist them when they feel threatened (or have been attacked), to take a “No!” at face value, to totally cease what they’re doing, and not try to press for more. To stand up for women when other men are harassing them. Teach them not to just say or do nothing when their “friends” are harassing women (or worse). To call their “bros” out when they’re indulging in misogynistic talk, to stop them when they start acting menacingly toward a woman or show them substances they plan to spike a woman’s drink with, and to forcefully yank their worthless asses away from any woman they’re menacing, cornering, blocking, forcibly pulling on, or worse—-even if they have to kick the other guy’s a*s to get him to stop. Women have always been unjustifiably blamed for men’s inability to control themselves. That self control is what needs to be instilled in men. They need to be held accountable for their actions, and pay consequences instead of being given a pass. That’s a tall order. I know. But the sooner we start, the sooner the problem starts going away.
