Depends on what kind of respect we're talking about. Do you want to be respected around your neighbors? Sure, earn it. But being respected in general as a human being? Being respected as a woman by a male? Those aren't things anyone should have to work for.

I disagree. Every human on this planet deserves to be treated with respect. Perhaps people might do things that will lower your respect from them, but we are all entitled to be treated with it from the outset. When you present yourself with pride and self respect, you command demand or earn the respect of your elders, peers and young peopl. Exactly! I hope he is teaching her how to show respect to others. If she runs around demanding respect and saying she is a Nubian Princess, it won't get her far in this world.

It does because we're not used to seeing it in the Western parts of the world. Kissing/pecking your child on the lips is an ancient form of love and affection that remains in hundreds of cultures around the world. I do agree that it looks a little bit staged/odd and more romantic that affectionate. I think the photographer set it up like that to commercialize it more, and that's what's throwing us off.

Everyone has a different interpretation of respect - whether it should be earned or is a human right. This girl has the right to feel respected until she does something to lose that respect.
