Someone Asks “What’s The Deep Dark Family Secret That You Learned As An Adult” And This Answer Is Incredible
There is something innately fascinating about knowing where we came from, whether it is studying human fossils or our own family tree. For those of us who are lucky enough to have met our older relatives, we feel we’ve gotten the inside scoop on what happened in the past – but not always.
Someone on Twitter asked “What’s the deep dark family secret that you learned as an adult,” and the response one user gave shows sometimes we don’t know our families as well as we think we do. Twitter user @AngryManTv said it was at his grandfather’s funeral that he learned the amazing true story behind his grandfather’s mysterious prior career. Scroll down below to read the full Twitter thread and learn his shocking secret!
Someone asked this question on Twitter
And the response this guy gave belongs in a movie
People in the comments were in awe and agreed it was screenplay-worthy
This is why the Mafia doesn’t deserve all the attention it gets. The movies, TV shows, etc. It’s totally romanticized in the US. In reality, this is what they do. They destroy lives and kill people who get in the way of their money.
Legends never die, they live on in different forms in our memories, I am glad I know about this.
Right? My grandma was a legend too. She passed about 16 years ago, and I'm still learning stuff about her that's just EPIC. :)

Most of us never really know about or fully understand the sacrifices our loved ones make for us. This is an extreme and heartrending example. I wonder how many other such heroes are out there, that never get their stories told? What a fantastic book/movie this would make!
What a wonderful discovery, I have been researching family history back to the 1200s and come across a lot of things but nothing like that. Congratulations.
This isn't a dope story... this is what happened to people of colour back then and it's still happening in some shape or form around the world. Look at what is happening with the firing of the coloured lady in Trumps administration.
And I think that's part of why the story should be told. It's heartbreaking and outrageous he was discriminated against and gave us his dream. It's amazing how good he was at boxing, and it's amazing that he became a chef and stayed so strong for his family, they couldn't ultimately destroy his life. He never should have had to face something so terrible, and I feel like the pieces of his story that we know show a lot of strength in spite of that.

I framed the medal and photo and presented it to my grandfather who took a look at it, put it in a box and we never saw it again. He always refused to talk about his war experiences...
I LOVE the fact that my entire family on both sides (Mom and Dad) is utterly boring and ordinary, there have never been any secrets. We have no interesting former bootleggers, no pirates, nobody ever discovered anything like a country, no pilgrim ancestry, just ordinary, every day, born in the USA people. My parents and grandparents lived such ordinary lives that when they all died, and all the papers, etc., had to be gone through, there were no shocking revelations. It'll be the same for my brother, my sister, and me; nothing shocking, nothing hidden, just ordinary people who've lived ordinary lives. When I die, sometime in the next decade, sis won't face any embarrassments in my apartment.
While he for sure was wronged by the mafia by being forced to make those choices, I can't help but think God chose that path for him for a reason. So many people suffer debilitating injuries from this sport. There's a time to quit and that's before you get badly injured or injure someone else badly. It was sad he felt the need to lock these memories away but I imagine he would've been saddened to think about them. Not that you'll ever read this, but I'm glad you learned this amazing thing about your grandfather and you have so many reasons to be proud of him.
I think, someone should make this a movie! The mob stopped many a promising career in their heyday.. this story needs to be told.
Boxing: The gentleman's sport ruined by the mob. Bless him for being such an honorable man.
Still worth reading. And I'd like for it to be made into a movie, maybe involving grandson discovering grandpas past with flashbacks.
