You never know what tomorrow might bring. It might start like a perfectly ordinary day but then you go out for a hike and get lost in the wilderness. Or get back to your apartment building and take the elevator to your floor just for it to start falling.

Of course, it's very improbable that you'll end up in a similar situation. But if, God forbid, you do, internet personality Adorian Deck, aka The Facts Guy, wants you to be prepared. So he is working on an interesting video series where he shares information on how to identify and escape emergencies.

40 Life-Saving Tips You Might Not Have Known But Definitely Should When crying for help, try and call some specific people like "hey, you in the red shirt, help, I'm being mugged!" A lot of people will ignore a help call so if you call someone specifically they'll look at you. If people are really ignoring your help call you can just try and yell "fire!" because people are going to come running to see stuff burning.

It's an instinct in felines and other predatorts too. Turning your back is what will trigger prowling/attack behavior. So whatever you do, don't turn your back.

Actually running will trigger their predator instinct. Your best bet is to do everything to avoid looking like prey. Be big, loud, slow

It's more likely to happen with an angry dog: NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO THEM. NEVER TRY TO RUN AWAY FROM ANY ANYMAL WITH 4 LEGS UNLESS IT'S JUST FEW STEPS TO SAFETY.

I was walking to the store one day and encountered a loose pit bull that started barking l like crazy as soon as it saw me. I only knew to not look it in the eyes and to move slowly. I turned around and walked slowly away and it followed me to the next corner where 2 people pulled over to help. I was so scared and didn't know what else to do. I had kept looking for a safe place to go but there was none. I was so grateful those people stopped.

From experience with this: if you have an encounter with a mountain lion, your brain cuts out and your body takes over. The instinct to run is automatic, and hard to circumvent.

And DO NOT make direct eye contact. The moment that contact is broken the likelihood they will strike increases dramatically. Try to focus on the forehead, shoulders, paws or tail. (Also advice for dealing animals in general) And if you see a wild cat eating in the open or feasting on something that isn't yet dead, report it immediately. There is a high probability of Rabies or CDV (Canine Distemper Virus-a mutated for of human measles that occurs in canines. If a canine with this virus is bitten by another animal, raccoon, wildcat, whatever, it can mutate again and mimic rabies to an extent and is highly contagious)

You don't want to turn your back because they want to go for the neck. Specifically the back of the neck to break the spinal cord. If you're hiking anywhere (and not hunting or trying to bird watch or the like), it's best to bang something together to announce your presence. Coming upon a bear or large cat unawares is when you get in trouble.

Go backwards slowly so you don't fall down. That could be fatal. Wave your arms, yell loudly, look big as you can. Keep trying to move away. And maybe this is just for bears, but keep your backpack on even if you run. It gives the animal something to grab instead of you. So ends the lecture lol

Never take your eye off any dangerous animal. Any prey can fight back, if a predator was counting on an ambush and finds that the situation suddenly got a lot more complicated, they will be much more careful. Also, prey runs. The moment you turn around and run, thats like saying "time to chase cause dinners on". Youre not gonna outrun any predator anyway, at the very least its much easier to defend yourself if you are facing them.

A mountain lion attacked, killed, and then ate a 40-year-old woman jogger near here about a decade ago. California Fish & Game Wardens found the lion and they had to kill it. The lion waited until she ran past and then she attacked from behind, as they do and she crushed the neck/skull.

If you can see them, you're not the target. Predators generally don't attack people unless you're getting too close to the cubs or you wandered into their territory. But also your odds of getting attacked by one is really low.

If somebody is ever trying to take you or points a gun at you to get you away in a public place, you just have to start screaming and fighting. Even if you're shot, medical attention can get to you relatively fast, but if they do end up taking you to a private place, your chances of being rescued are much lower
