Life isn’t as dark and dangerous as the news and social media would like you to think—there’s plenty of light, humor, and good times to be had. However, when disaster does strike (no matter how low the odds might be), it’s ruthless and you’d best be prepared. Storyteller and video creator Jack Neel, the founder of the ‘fyp’ channel, has a whole bunch of cool and interesting facts that could also save your life.

Knowing what to do if you fall off the edge of a subway platform and onto the tracks is just the tip of the iceberg. And speaking of icebergs, Jack’s shared what we ought to do if we’re ever chased by a polar bear. Scroll down to check out some of the best facts that you might have not known shared by the content creator with his 6.2 million TikTok followers, upvote the ones that you found the most useful or intriguing, and if you’ve got any similar tips and tricks to share, you can always write us a comment below.

Jack, who is a big fan of Bored Panda, was kind enough to tell me all about how he got into educational entertainment, how he started making life-saving facts videos, his shot to fame, as well as how he deals with the stress and pressure of being a full-time video creator (trust me, it's advice that's useful no matter what career path you're on!).

"I’ve done a lot of educational series on my TikTok page over the past year or so, and within the past few months I’ve narrowed down my niche to horror/true-crime-related topics. 'Facts That Could Save Your Life' fit well onto my page because of dark/mysterious undertones. It’s one of my followers’ favorite series, and they’ve noted how they always save/download my videos in case they need the advice for the future," Jack shared with Bored Panda.

I was curious which fact Jack would want absolutely everyone in the world to know. "One fact I found extremely useful that is not so commonly known is, 'If someone tried to kidnap you, make sure to scratch your attacker, their DNA will now be in your nails,'" he told me.

Just over two years ago, Jack got into creating videos on TikTok. And a year ago, he got into 'edutainment' content. "I was very hesitant to upload my first storytelling video, but a close friend convinced me to keep it up, and it was an overnight sensation. I went from 230k followers to 540k overnight and started getting tons of messages from new fans, brand partnership opportunities, and various management companies reaching out to me," he shared with Bored Panda his shot to fame.

Keeping his end goals in mind helps Jack stay passionate about video-making. "Since a young age, I’ve wanted to become a full-time YouTuber. It’s stressful at times, but I know if I continue creating on TikTok, my dream will become a reality," he said that he's focused and this helps drive him forward.

Jack also shared with me his secrets to keeping stress at bay. "I take multiple daily walks and do Wim Hof meditation pretty much every day," he said, and I for one am going to follow in his and Wim's footsteps.

Jack isn’t the only TikToker to spread useful info if we ever find ourselves at odds with Fate. Plenty of other TikTok content creators are hopping on the trend, spreading awareness (knowledge is power after all) and getting some extra attention from the internet in return.

For instance, Bored Panda has recently written about user Knowledgesaurus’ facts that could save your life as well. Check that article out, too, if you’re in the mood for some more niche facts that might one day be useful when you’re fighting for your life.

The odds of horrific things happening to you are pretty slim. For example, the odds of being injured by a bear are around 1 in 2.1 million, according to the National Park service. Of course, that’s not much comfort for anyone who’s been attacked by a bear.

However, if we constantly spend our time thinking about worst-case scenarios, we’ll stress ourselves out (and that’s going to wreck our health) and we could be ignoring the things that occur far more commonly, e.g. heart disease or getting cancer.

So it’s best to focus on what we can control: eating a healthy and varied diet, exercising and moving lots, getting quality sleep, hydrating, having an active social life, helping others in your community, and having a job that brings you purpose. Oh, and brushing our teeth!

After all, it’s better to be attacked by a bear when you’ve lived a full life and you’re happy and healthy than to cower from one full of regrets and out of shape. Though if you’ve watched Jack’s videos or you've read up on some bear literature, you’ll know what to do either way.

my godchild had Retinoblastoma and had his right eye removed with just a few months old. The Doctors first didn't believed that there's something wrong with him, just a little crossed eyed, but after the diagnosis and looking at pictures of that time, you could see the Retina not reflecting red with the flash light on, but a white milky appearance. So when you feel like there's something wrong with your child, I can advice to take a few pictures with the flash on and take a closer look. My godchild lost his eye, but the fast diagnosis saved his other eye and could be treated with radiation. he is living a happy life :-)

If you're at home, grab a pot and a spoon or anything loud and bang them together. Absolutely positively, do not run. I worked as a technician at a bowling alley, I can confirm that the deck that holds / picks up the pins will indeed crush you, it’s extremely heavy, it’s controlled by a computer that doesn’t care if you are in the way and it will drop towards the lane without warning. I’ve no idea why you would think it was a good idea to slide underneath the deck, the sweep and the deck are both clearly very tough bits of kit, you aren’t! We had double safety locking systems on the power supply and physical stops inside them on our pinsetters so that when were working on them there was zero chance of them operating, They will chew you up and spit you out. Your coffin will be wide and flat.

Apparently, there are some people unfamiliar with driving where there are frequent deer. No one wants to hit the deer. It is horrible for deer and your car and possibly your life. Sometimes deer dart into the highway from places on the side of the highway you simply couldn't have seen them before and anticipated. They can jump in front far faster than you can reasonably stop a car. Generally, when this happens, you're also going fast enough (highway speed) that swerving as suddenly as you would have to avoid the deer will land you over the side of the highway or rolling your vehicle. It has long been recommended that after a certain speed, it is just safer to hit the deer. Not only for you, but the people behind you in traffic. No one wants to hit the deer, but sometimes it is the best option in a bad situation, so it is considered best practice since the situation happens fast enough you likely won't have time to analyze the situation.

I was actually crashed into by a moose up in Jämtland. I saw it coming at full tilt from the left - down a steep slope, and held right into the ditch. When the car was at a stand still, the moose skidded into the driver door, made a glide over the hood and ran away. Luckily, it did not hit the old Toyota Corolla that I was comming from the other way. But the Toyota had moose hair stuck in the front registration plate afterwards. Just a few minutes earlier, my mum had asked why I drive pickups and big SUV's. I answered that it is a good place t8 be if an moose come up in front of the car. Well. It didn't, but close enough. The worst thing was that it was almost -30 degree celsius, and the window in the drivers door went bust.

This is absolutely, positively, 100% TRUE. I once saw a small SUV get obliterated by a Moose that was crossing the highway up near Banff, Alberta. The dude in the SUV had to be doing at least 100 KPH (62MPH) when this absolute monster of a Moose came running out of the treeline. The guy had no chance to react and just T-boned the Moose which went flying over the SUV, but not before caving in the front end and damn near tearing the roof off of it. The SUV rolled to a stop in the ditch with pieces of it still flying down the highway, looking like it had just been hit by a train. Meanwhile the Moose got up, looked around for a minute, then kind of limped off back into the treeline with probably no more than some road rash and a sore leg. Everyone in the SUV were shaken up but more or less OK, but the car itself was a write-off.

look, if you have a chance, certainly de-celerate as much as you can without taking a chance of losing control of your vehicle, or going either into a ditch or into oncoming traffic. hitting the darn thing doing 45 is a lot better than hitting it doing 70ish (i have done both, and last summer here in michigan going home from work at 3am...hit three of them within about eight weeks)...you'll want to delerate as much as you can as safely as you can, in control and in your lane. oh yeah, and deer WILL run right into the side of you, because deer are just not very darn bright...

If you see a deer run out onto the road ahead of you and you know you won’t hit it, still stop as fast as you can. Deer are herd animals and most people hit the second or third deer they didn’t know was there but that follow the first deer without slowing or looking for cars themselves.

Reading Hunter S Thompson long ago I recall him writing to never hit brakes when about to hit a deer as that could potentially put animal through your windshield and if it's a buck you could likely be impaled by it's rack. He advised to hit accelerator so that the deer would bounce off the vehicle. Well, I hit a deer not too long ago and it worked like a charm. Not too much front end damage and was able to drive remaining 10 miles. (97 Lexus es300).

A safari jeep was targeted by a herd, the only difference it had from other vehicles was a big upright tube attached to the hood that was in that shape. Never swerve. Just hit the brakes. Hard. Like you want to break them.

nope braking will result in the deer or moose landing on the top of the car crushing you inside if you can't avoid a moose go full throttle and hope it flies over instead of landing on top.

A lot of times there will be a deer BEHIND the one that crossed in front of you, slow down as much as you can. I was driving a company motor home on one of the collisions and the next deer hit the dual wheels on the driver's side and deer hair was in between the tire and rim! 🦌

About twenty or so years ago in my little Oldsmobile Cutlas Calais I was offroading with some friends. Wide dirt road....was doing about 30 mph. Deer darted out. I swerve to try and miss it and plow into a tree Long story short the Park Ranger who was called because it's his jurisdiction told me I should have hit the deer. Namely Deer move, trees don't.

I swerved on icy road to avoid a squirrel, ran through a fence and almost through some lady's front door, the squirrel was killed anyway, my car had total front end damage, I had to pay for the fence and the lady's hospital visit to ER because she almost had a heart attack.

I wish the driver had this tip on our 2020 road trip. Then I wouldn't have flown out of the car in the direction that it was rolling in during the 80 mile an hour rollover. I survived, but my spine was fractured...I have a feeling that I wouldn't have survived if I was in the car. I haven't seen a moose yet, but NEVER SWERVE WITH A DEER! It is definitely better to hit it.

Seen deer vs car, deer was thrown about ten to twelve meters up into the air by the impact, car was totaled, both occupant needed medical attention for cuts from the flying glass, deer had to be put down, wear your seatbelts, and be attentive to surroundings.

As someone that has hit several deer over the years, yes you are far better off hitting the deer than swerving. I did $4000 in damage to my car from hitting one in December 2020, but I fixed it. If I swerved and ended up in ditch on my roof it would have been far worse.

I believe there is a device you can buy to put on the front of your vehicle. It creates a high pitched whistle when you drive that humans can’t hear but animals can’t stand and will “drive” them away from roadways.

I have been driving a school bus for 25 years. For most of those years, it has been in the country, therefore I have seen a lot of deer and other animals. When I see an animal, I blow my horn and they run the other way. I have yet to hit anything. If you know you're in an area with critters, just keep your eyes open and make a lot of noise. They will avoid you.

IF you do hit a deer or other large animal, and it is dead, please try to drag it off the road if safe to do so, or call the local sheriff ASAP. I actually hit a deer last night - it was dead in the fast lane of the freeway - in my Prius. Thank goodness it was already dead, but we too could have been seriously injured! It was like going over a ski jump and landing HARD! And the undercarriage of my car is all messed up, with carnage and gross stuff everywhere....

If you have no other option but to hit the deer step on the gas right before impact especially if driving a small car. If you step on the brakes then you lower the front end of the vehicle and the deer could end up coming through the windshield. By giving it gas you raise the front of your vehicle sending the deer under instead of over.

As I understand it, the reason moose are so deadly in car crashes is not because of their greater mass, but because their longer legs mean that main mass impacts the WINDSHIELD of a car, rather than the grill.

While I agree about ditching the vehicle instead of hitting the moose, (AND HORSES) but for a completely different reason. These are such tall animals that all their mass is centered above the bumper/grille. You hit the legs, and their body comes straight through the windshield

Comprehensive, non-chargeable claim or Collision, chargeable! Take out Bambi and Bullwinkle if you can’t stop safely!!

I would hope not to have to hit any animal.. it has happened . Also if you drive at night in the Australian country and a kangaroo or wallaby hops in front and you miss it, put on the brakes as their will be another following it and you will almost certainly hit that one. It is a dreadful and all too common road kill experience.

Usually, there may be more than one deer. Just slow down and try to stop, otherwise your car and you may be trampled by the migrating flock of deer. It is fun, however, to watch them run on slippery pavement. You will know that you need to slow down or YOU may be the one "skating" along.

Two stories. Saw a car beside the road with the hood smashed in and the engine on the ground. A deer had jumped off of a cliff and landed on the vehicle. In places where the road has been cut through rocky hills this is a common occurrence. Secondly, it was a dark and snowy night. Seriously on one of those roads cut through a cliff. Fortunately, the deer raised its head and there was the classic deer in the headlights. Because of the snowy winding road, we weren't going fast and were able to stop before hitting the deer. Also because of road conditions, there was no one behind us. Win for us and the deer.

Never slow down if you’re going to hit a deer. Speed up! If you slow down the front of the vehicle will dip and when you hit the deer, it will actually drive the deer right into your windshield. If you speed up, the front of the vehicle will lift up and you’re more likely to go over the deer causing less damage to the cab and to the driver.

There is NO such thing as a "single deer crossing the highway". It's buddies are either just behind it or just in front of it. If you hit the one, the others may spook and veer off. If you hit a moose, you're only hitting those long, long legs. The body hitting your car and windshield will likely kill you and "total" your car.

Okay, granted, I get where this one's trying to go but it still really REALLY depends on the ditch. A slight drop and a corn field? It'll do less damage than a deer. A 500ft cliff? slightly more than the moose.

If you are going to hit a deer, step on the gas, this will have your hood pointing up and will flip the deer over your car. If you slam the breaks, hood is pointing down and you will just smash into it. Stop on the gas, is what I learned in driving school.

That's awful advice. The faster you're going when you hit a deer the better your chances of surviving the impact. Hit it at speed and it might go over your roof if you're lucky, hit the brakes before you slam into it and it's going through your windshield. By the time you see the deer in these kinds of places it's already too late to stop and telling people to stop can get them killed.

Alligators can NOT run up to 35 miles per hour at all. They’re not land animals (well, they are, but designed to be much more effective in water). The average, healthy human could outrun an alligator on land whether running in a straight line or zig zagging.
