This Instagram account was created by Guff, a data-driven content company that aspires to enlighten people with daily trivia and wisdom. They have amassed more than 825K followers by sharing different bits of information every single day. Unexpected and fun facts seem to often catch people off guard in the best possible way, and many think that it's worth their time.
Staying curious and open to new ideas is not only enjoyable but also provides us with a dopamine rush. Whether it’s learning something new about history, science, art, or even modern pop culture, there are many benefits to keeping our brain cells active.
A study by researchers at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business has found that our brains are hungry and always willing to learn new details about the world. Researchers revealed that "new information acts on the brain’s dopamine-producing reward system in the same way as money or food."
"To the brain, information is its own reward, above and beyond whether it’s useful,” co-author of the study and associate professor Ming Hsu, Ph.D. told Neuroscience News. “And just as our brains like empty calories from junk food, they can overvalue information that makes us feel good but may not be useful—what some may call idle curiosity.”
However, knowledge usually becomes useful when it’s put into context. While many think that learning cool and interesting facts is a waste of time, it’s quite the opposite. Sure, you can find out everything you need with just a few searches and clicks on hyperlinks but it won't do any good to your critical thinking skills.
Scott H. Young, author of Ultralearning: Accelerate Your Career, Master Hard Skills and Outsmart the Competition, wrote that factual knowledge determines the speed you can acquire new knowledge on a topic. "The more you know, the faster you learn." It also is an important driver of our reading comprehension and other high-level skills, for example problem-solving. When you’re reading a book, it’s much easier to understand the deeper meaning if you’re already familiar with the topic.
Yes, because they are genuine, loving, not trying to screw you, to scam you, they are grateful, lovable, love you back unconditionally..
If you take a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principle difference between a dog and a man. - Mark Twain
Load More Replies...Well, if a dog is an ásshole, it's a human's fault. If a human is an ásshole, it's a human's fault. Case closed.
Not at all. That's only true in the western world. I seriously doubt it is true in the developing world. Observe: https://www.latimes.com/world/la-xpm-2012-dec-27-la-fg-wn-southafrica-zuma-dogs-20121227-story.html
In Korea, dogs are mistreated before being slaughtered for Boknal, “dog eating days." The Koreans who do this believe the meat is better after the animal has suffered.
Load More Replies...Any movie where an animal is a major player I need spoilers before I can watch it. If that dog/cat/horse/whatever dies, I can't handle it.
One of my dogs hates black spaniels... 🤷 Can only assume he was attacked by one maybe. He's a scarred and damaged little rescue and black himself!
Load More Replies...Intelligent, civilized humans have more compassion and love for their pets of any kind, than they do for other humans.
In horror movies i hate it when the dog or cat dies, people ok but no animals please
That's so tru im cuddling my little 1lb Chihuahua she is my baby
I wonder why ……….not Us humans don’t deserve dogs, with their unconditional and never ending love and loyalty
Dogs are generally innocent. People can be vicious a**holes though.
Cause we bred dogs to affect us more and more. It's puppy dog eyes and not baby eyes for a reason. So cute! ♡
Well D'uh! I mean look at those eyes, we can't make our eyes do that.
Also not true in far east in some places apparently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lychee_and_Dog_Meat_Festival
I will not look at that. But you tell us about it in a respectful way. Thank you for that, seriously. :)
Load More Replies...Because people suck. Even those you are supposed to be able to trust... family...will screw you over in a heartbeat, the "good" Christians included. Dogs never screw you over!
That's not true, animals suffer immensely at the hands of evil people, and those who are apathetic to pain and suffering of other sentient beings are as evil. This is very reason for violence and injustice toward other humans. There will be NO human rights WITHOUT animal rights!!! Period.
Of course they do. Dogs lack guile, ambition, greed, and other nasty human traits.
That's because we suck, and they don't. Dogs are superior beings, we only WISH we could be as wonderful as them
i am guilty of this. do i feel bad for this? no not really...have you met many people? if you have then you can understand this logic.
I'm sick of this saying. I have no empathy for assholic humans and there is no assholic dog so that's simply why I personally have less empathy for humans
Obvious. I love my cat more than my own sister. My sister is abusive bty I'm not being rude.
Dogs have more empathy for other dogs than some humans have for other humans.
How the fück is that a fact and if it were true, so what? We aren’t required to be speciesist. You people don’t seem to give a damn about animals you can’t keep as pets.
Because humans can understand what's going on, do stupid s**t all day erry day, suffer the consequences of their own actions, and can help themselves out of their circumstances. Generally speaking of course. Where as animals are generally innocent cause they're too dumb to be evil.
Animals are intelligent and aren't evil despite that.
Load More Replies...Yeah because all dogs are very good bois and girls, but people? Well, people s**k.
I've always known this about myself. Kill all the humans you want in this book, but harm an animal and you're dead to me.
Isn't it for animals in general some plants too and maybe a few rocks........
I have empathy for animals in general more than I have for people. people suck and they act that way on purpose.
Yeah I don't think th that's anything new. I'll introduce myself to any dog I can, but people yeah not so much.
Of course we do. No dog has EVER cheated, betrayed, littered, destroyed the environment, talked nasty, put down anyone and a host of other evils that humans do. We don't deserve the love &loyalty they freely give us EVEN when some humans have done THEM wrong.
Just think about police dogs. Objectively, theyve been trained to seriously injure humans, and the police have less oversight and fewer restrictions on using them than they do firearms or tasers. But 99% of people see a police dog and go awwwww
I know that if I had to either save a dog or a person, I would probably pick the dog. Please don't downvote, just my opinion.
Because dogs don't screw you over and can't defend themselves as much as humans
dogs give unconditional love.... humans love with strings attached... or not at all... humans can love unconditionally, but people consider the person who does this as very shady or as someone with something terribly wrong with them... never as a human with something terribly right with them.... sooo sad...
That's because dogs are kind souls looking for love. The human race is but a virus on the earth, destroying it slowly and painfully.
As generalisations go, this is possibly the most ridiculously egregious one I've ever seen. Just add the word "some" at the beginning, unless your study tested more than 7.75 billion people.
Instead of "some" I would say "Except for few" people who are genuinely good.
Load More Replies...i mean if youve ever seen a movie were a dog dies then you care more about that then the humans dying
For good reason; dogs are loyal and loving and dependable - with exceptions, of course, but is generally true, but not generally for humans.
No No, no no. Some people maybe, but many many people are truly horrible to dogs. Electric collars, prong collar, being shut up day in and day out in a concretes yard, or kept in crates. Belting, baits. Fed utter rubbish, dropped off unwanted either at the refuge or worse just on a back street somewhere :-(
They have less chance of being attacked by a dog than a human as well
For good reason, I think. Dogs deserve it more than a lot of humans.
I think that humans find they can see dogs as 'blameless' whereas with humans they feel room to wonder 'did they bring this on themselves?' 'or have they done things in life that mean they deserve this?' I find it rather sad
If we only cared about each other as we care about our pets what a wonderful world this would be
Steve, you obviously do not realize how many animals are mistreated, abused, tortured, and murdered. The link between animal abuse and violence among people is undeniable.
Load More Replies...Maybe bc it Is like a child of our own to nurse and care for, yet we can relate to it and feel comfort to the level of the age of a human we are comfortable with
Because most dogs aren't inherently evil, selfish, controlling, and power hungry!
Serial killer, rapist and paedophile Peter Kürten, known as "the vampire of Düsseldorf", actually said: "A thousend times, I would hit a man with my car rather than a dog".
I know, heard about, many non-white people and they were so abusive to animals and other humans, including of their own race.
Load More Replies...You do not deserve empathy. So judgmental and hateful, and yet you expect to be liked more than a dog who loves unconditionally? Lol nah.
Load More Replies..."You can’t reason critically or creatively without first having amassed a large amount of factual knowledge," Young explained. "This is why the existence of Google and Wikipedia doesn’t reduce the need to learn facts. Something being a Google search away doesn’t mean it’s available in the background to allow you to parse new information easily."
If you find yourself wanting to expand your mental horizons, the Wall Street Journal bestselling author suggested to simply be curious. By reading more articles and books, and by watching a variety of shows or movies, you always surround yourself with new knowledge. If it's hard to understand everything at first, don’t be discouraged and try to look it up.
Young advised not to be afraid of topics that are new to you: "Knowledge is exponential, so if you’re not used to reading something, you’ll learn a bit less. However, as you read more about it, you can read faster and smarter." So picking up a book that might be "above your level" could take longer but will get easier with time.
Just remember, we are the ones using the newly learned facts and putting them into context. So if you’re wondering whether you’re ever going to use this stuff, one day you actually might. Sometimes, our brains are capable of the most wonderful things, and bringing two completely unrelated ideas into one is certainly one of them.
I'm not a fan of his acting, but Keanu seems to be a genuinely good person.
True, so whatever you do don't think about how they feel when their new babies are taken away and placed in a field where they can still hear each other's cries. I live in the midst of cattle farms, and it's heartbreaking.
Charasmatic megafauna get a lot of attention. There are probably thousands of species that are less likable that are in the same situation.
My kid goes to a Montessori school where students clean up everyday. I think it's a good idea - helps kids feel responsible for their school, which helps them become responsible citizens.
I'm always torn when it comes to things like this. On the one hand, I don't feel like the government should tell us "you can't do that because it isn't good for you". Your not my mom, back off. Sugar isn't good for me either. The last person I dated wasn't good for me. On the other hand, I'm all for the government telling us it's the law to wear a seatbelt, or that my doctor can't smoke crack before he operates on me. And this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why I am not a politician. Glad I'm not the one who has to make the decisions on these kinds of things!
I remember watching this on tv with my dad before he passed away. We were so happy for him!
Then I pity those who don't. I have no emotional stability at all
Fun fact: Men who kiss other peoples' wifes befor going to work live an average of 5 years shorter.
That's so sad ☹️. Glad they managed to convince her not to. Not just because she's a celeb, but because she's a human

Several of these so-called "facts" are misleading, unverified rumours, or downright false. Looks like Guff is not a source you can trust. But that might not be surprising coming from a content company that sells "hyper-engagement" and churning out content that is primarily designed to "drive human emotions." 👎
I very much welcome this addition. Extra, easy to access context is always a boon.
Load More Replies...I would say most of these "facts" are full of crap! They have no proof of what they are saying and most of them are so ridiculous that I had to stop scrolling.
But i find the news here interesting and sometimes double check on other sites to verify it if its legit

This was surprisingly sad, but I'm happy to have seen it. If you don't tear up Googling "Pocho crocodile funeral", you're not really living.
In scrolling through answers a lot of down votes were given if the interesting facts were not interesting and it was so stated!
