Dumb shit even if it was a turtle (how can't people tell the difference) its fine it made it to where you found it. It'll make it back.
By all means, put an animal *next to* the water if you think it wants to be there... But don't lob it in. 😂

Also, if you MUST take a turtle off the road so it doesn't get hit, please take them in the direction they were already going. If you don't, they will turn around and cross the road again.
The only time you 'rescue' a turtle or tortoise is when they are in obvious danger - like the middle of the road. F'instance: We have painted turtles in our area. The little ones are stinkers when it comes to getting out of their ponds/marshy areas/etc. I encountered one standing in the middle of a street one day on the way home. Stopped and put him in the car. NOTE: Do this ONLY if you have a box or bag to contain him!! I didn't... However, I managed to get him out from under my foot pedals w/o having an accident, and later took him to the nearest lake. All the other little stinkers watched as we set him on the gravel. It took him about .5 seconds to scramble into the water. Hopefully he's a big stinker now.
