This kind of reminds me of an old joke, with the number on the grill being upside down. Bear with me, I’m terrible at telling jokes! The local lake has a new guy on the boat rental stand. He’s got his little megaphone and he’s making sure the boats come back on time. “Number 91, bring your boat back, your time is up” “Number 91, please come in your time is up” Manager “we’ve only got 20 boats!” Trainee “Number 16 are you in trouble?” I did warn you! Unfortunately this isn't a terribly rare occurrence in pit mining projects. Big truck driving along the newly formed -- by recent product removal -- dirt road.... Comes too close to the less-compacted side of the thruway.... And well, you know the rest. These trucks are as durable as they are huge and don't sustain as much damage as one might think. The equally huge recovery expense is due to the cost of the crane necessary to upright the vehicle. Unless the operation happens to have one near or otherwise own one elsewhere, cranes that size ain't cheap to rent and transport to the job site.
Looks like a Cat 7 series... 625 tons empty weight ... try to imagine the size of the tow/recovery vehicle need to right it.

The lesson is that you don't buy a McLaren because even when you know ow to handle it, someone else will crash into it. Or when you store it safe the whole place will burn down. So you see the McLaren, you don't buy and just walk away and buy yourself a bloody Kia for 1% of the price of a McLaren

What I've learned is never buy a McLaren and having a fancy car basically means it's going to start on fire or get me into an accident. I'll stick with my Honda, thank you very much!

#7...those straight-line Iowa winds. tore the roof off a building I worked in and didn't have to work for a week because of it. best part was that I got paid. the early 00's were great for that kind of thing with a very large company. that was also the straight-line winds that sent a silo roof flying a mile and landed on a car. it wasn't totaled though just took off the back bumper. it was an almost perfect landing.
I'm sorry for mother nature and sorry for the people who lost loved ones. This was so depressing to see but like a car accident I couldn't stop watching. I'm embarrassed about myself.

The type of person that has the money and would want a McLaren/Lambo/Ferrari is also the type of person to drive it like an asshole and not care about the cost of destroying it.
None of this even comes close to the most expensive accident in history, the Chernobyl reactor meltdown. Nor the most expensive conflict in history, World War II. Though these are at least possible to laugh about, as opposed to being wide-scale tragedies highlighting the failure of humanity as a species...
World Wars aren't small failures with relatively big impacts. Their dynamics are immense and hardly start at one specific point in time. They are huge mistakes with huge impacts. Chernobyl was enormous and also not just one person making one mistake. There were structural problems in understanding what the huck they were doing. This list is mostly about stupid small mistakes that end up with a big price tag.
