Baker Finds Out That His Girlfriend And 14 Of Her Friends Ate $1000 Worth Of Pastries His Team Made, Threatens To Take Legal Action

As you know, there is the famous “Darwin Award”, which is awarded to people for the most stupid and reckless exclusion of themselves from the evolutionary chain of mankind. It is quite possible that it is worth establishing an award for the most stupid reason to break off relations, and then the heroine of our today’s story will definitely be among the nominees.

Tell me, have you ever parted ways with your significant other because of a pastry you ate? And if you ate a lot of this pastry? What if it was supposed to be sent the next morning to a customer who had already paid about $1,000 for an order? As you can see, with each new condition, the reason becomes more and more significant…

This story was first shared on the TIFU Reddit community, where it racked up around 49.3K upvotes and 5.2K comments. Perhaps the Original Poster should write a screenplay on it, and someday Hollywood will buy the film rights, making him rich – but so far the author has only become a thousand dollars poorer.

More info: Reddit

The Original Poster works at a family bakery and lives with his girlfriend

Image source: Sarah Stierch (not the actual photo)

So, the OP works at his family bakery, which is very close to his house, where his girlfriend also lives. Most recently, she told him that she was pregnant, quite surprising the man – after all, they always used condoms and birth control. However, this, of course, was not the reason for the end in relations.

About a month ago, the woman told him that she’s pregnant

As the OP himself admits, he used to be quite indignant that his girlfriend usually does nothing while he pays for the house and so on, but the pregnancy became a perfect excuse for her. However, the incident with pastry was the last straw for the baker…

The OP and his team made two big pastry orders which in total cost around $1,000

So, the OP received two large orders for pastries for two weddings, and for a whole week, he and his team worked on these orders. Each order had from 75 to 100 items, so it was a lot of work. In the end, on the eve of delivery day, everything was ready, and the OP received payment of about a thousand dollars.

When the OP came into the bakery, he found out that almost everything had been eaten by his GF and her 14 friends

As it turned out later, in the evening of the same day, his GF had a party with her 14 friends. When everyone was hungry, she offered to go to the bakery and get something there. As a result, when the OP came to check on the orders, he was horrified to find a whole group of people there, and both orders were almost completely eaten.

The OP was, of course, furious, and his GF stated that these were just pregnancy cravings. When the man reasonably asked if the rest of her girlfriends had cravings as well, he got no answer. As a result, the OP kicked everyone out of the bakery, and he had no choice but to return the customers their money.

The OP discovered that the woman lied to him about her pregnancy as she was afraid that he would leave her otherwise

The OP could not stand it and called the police. In the course of further conversation, when the OP threatened the woman with a paternity test, she confessed that she was not actually pregnant at all, and made it up simply because she was afraid that he would leave her otherwise.

Image source: Paula Satijn (not the actual photo)

In general, everything ended in a breakup, and our hero was also going to sue the unlucky pastry lover and all of her 14 friends in order to compensate for damages in the amount of $1K. However, no one will compensate the OP for good relations with clients who lost their long-ordered sweets right on their wedding day…

Commenters told the OP that he did everything right as the woman just sabotaged his livelihood

Most of the people in the comments supported the OP massively, saying that he did everything right – both in terms of ending the relationship and calling the cops. But the most offensive, as commenters correctly point out, is that the woman simply sabotaged his livelihood.

Some people also pointed out that the OP probably shouldn’t have given his GF the keys to the bakery. If she took one or two cookies from his orders more than once, then it was to be expected that sooner or later, something like this would happen. In any case, people are glad for the OP that he drew the right conclusions for himself.

Probably you too have experienced something similar – then we will be glad to hear your own story. In any case, feel free to write what you think about this tale… and to whom you would give the award for the most stupid way to end a relationship.

Just did a bit of research and sadly, yes it's a real thing, you can be reported and jailed for miscarriage. There's multiple examples of people being reported for suspected abortions (whether true or false), and even some for natural miscarriage where someone just suspected foul play of some sort. Plus, stillbirth where the mother was suspected of taking drugs during the pregnancy so the hospital reporter her for 'murdering' her baby when it was stillborn (1 month premature). Bloody hell. To that person who started a reddit page to complain because of all the 'US bashing' here on Bored Panda, this is the sort of misogynist, dystopian b******t you should be raging against in your country, not stupid s**t posts.

NTA! But damn if I had someone like you closing eyes to one or two missing pastries I would be extremely fat and loving. Since I have run a bakery legal actions is only way to go, it's hard work physically and mentally and for your girlfriend be this rude, disrespectful and totally oblivious to the hardwork and money earned and spent in the business and on top of that to live free. No sympathy, she is responsible for her actions and consequences. Lying about pregnancy is a hell of a red flag. On top of all that a bloody restraining order should be gotten as well.

1. Pregnancy is not 100% preventable with any form of birth control. This will be both their lesson learned. 2. His ex is an entitled woman, simple as that. Doesn't matter if she's carrying a baby or not. 3. That is way too much sugar and empty calories to be putting into her system and an unborn baby's body, anyway. Thank goodness she wasn't preggers. 4. He is in full rights to press charges and kick her out. No sympathy on her.

I'm pretty sure there were signs of crazy prior to this and OP just ignored them or was completely oblivious. I'm guessing she's really attractive because this went from 0 to 100 and he's acting surprised. They even acknowledged that she literally does nothing and that was never an issue before? That obviously doesn't excuse her behavior at all but seems obvious he should've dumped long ago.

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but yeah, the girlfriend has so many problems prior to this $1000 pastry eating spree and OP never batted his eyes. Girlfriend not working ever? Yeah, fine. Girlfriend fooling around? Yeah, fine. Girlfriend stealing (in small doses)? Yeah, fine. Like, seriously? Just how low is your standard and how bad is your communication skill? You are willing to spend your life with someone like this--I'm surprised you are just now mad at her for eating $1000 worth of pastry. Any one of those things should be grounds for break up long before you get to this point. $1000 is a small amount for this lesson learned. Next time, have some standard. I'm also curious, what, exactly, does the girlfriend plan to do when it's time to give birth when she was never pregnant in the first place? I shudder to think what she might do...

I'd be worried if I were him. He says she faked the pregnancy so he wouldn't leave, even though there weren't any problems between them at the time. I'm guessing she's done a lot of bad things he hasn't found out about yet, and she was pre-emptively trying to protect herself.

One of the points missing from this post is that the pastries were for 2 weddings. This means the OP and colleagues will have to remake everything in extra-quick time to avoid ruining 2 couples' wedding days. Absolutely the right thing to file charges against her and remove her from your life. What an absolute ******!!!!

According to the post, they didn't. They had to cancel and refund those wedding orders since there wasn't time to redo it. They were made over the course of a week. I don't know how much of that was the capacity of the bakery, or the time things needed to sit between steps, but OP said there was not time enough to remake it. So those people did not have their baked items for their weddings. It cost them more than the order. That's a black mark on their reputation. Even if they could redo it, if I were one of his team and had to come pull an overnighter because the boss gave his feral girlfriend the run of the shop, I would not be a happy employee.

I'm not sure why he says "we had no problems before", after talking about how she "sits on her butt doing nothing". Maybe she noticed he had some form of dislike for her, even if he hadn't realised it, and so invented the pregnancy for that reason? Even so, he'd notice eventually that she was lying, was her plan then to cry about how she didn't want him to leave and use that into guilting him to stay? It just doesn't look good for her.

I was also wondering why he was still with her and why she still had access to the shop. The fact that she is not only unemployed, but has never had a job and sponged off people her whole adult life would be a hard NO from me. Then, they've specifically had conflict over her stealing from the shop before. If my partner had taken a pastry from an order I was making one time, I would explain to them that was not ok and why. They should ask if they want something, and if it's an order a customer is waiting for, I will say so and offer something else. If they did it again, I would break up with them. That's too disrespectful. She's stolen multiple times. It accelerated to her stealing 15-20 items at a go on at least one occasion. This is sounding like a person who is going to keep pushing, outside the bounds of all reason and respect. No good can come of a relationship with her. That was clear before this incident.

As someone who has recently found out their wife is pregnant, I was really worried about this (admittedly horrible) person while I read this. I took my own baggage to it, given that it's been a massive struggle for my wife and I to get where we are now. In this story, I kept feeling sorry for the ex being thrown out, and worried about her diet as well. Then, I got to the end, and I fully hate her. A hugely selfish person, and lying about a pregnancy is so incredibly low.

No, unfortunately it's a real thing — basically, it's a case where a woman who miscarried is accused of either inducing a miscarriage on purpose, or doing things (driving without a seatbelt, using drugs, etc.) that put the fetus' life at risk. There have been two women accused of the "willfully endangering the fetus" variety here in California in recent years, one of which is still in jail.

How does someone get "wasted" on pastries? And don't tell me "sugar high" because that's not a real thing. Why not say "I found them all completely stuffed with $1000 worth of pastries" or "completely pigged-out on" or "completely gorged on." I know this really shouldn't annoy me so much, but it does. It really does. Who TF says "wasted on pastries," it makes no fking sense.

What country is this story taking place in? Because the story says its in $ but being from the US, our police departments aren't going to have someone take a pregnancy test there and there aren't places (yet) that have laws against miscarriages. So those seem like maybe embellishments to the story.

Woman HAVE been prosecuted for having miscarriages in the US if it is suspected that they did something to cause it, such as using drugs. Beyond that, in any state now that has banned abortion, any miscarriage could be suspected to have been an abortion by ignorant lawmen. There doesn't have to be a specific law outlawing miscarriages (in fact it wouldn't even possible to create such a law), the woman just has to be suspected of causing it. Frankly, it is also possible that the police just threatened her to get her to confess to making up her pregnancy in the first place.

15 people and not one of them thinking, it might not be ok to destroy what is obviosuly a huge order fo a bakery??? As for the rest, I think EAH (is that the correct acronym?) You don't kick somebody out of the house because of a fight. that is just immature. If you don't trust your gf, fine, have a paternity test done. If you don't want to feed her and take care of her, fine TALK TO HER, give her an ultimatim etc. But flipping a lid like this, even for a good reason, is immature. God, that was a roller coaster from start to finish! I'm relieved for OP with her not actually being pregnant. Now he's free to leave her without a single string attached and to move on with his life. I hope he enjoyed his well-deserved nap!

Not only stealing from him and his business, but making him look bad in front of his customers, and stranding the wedding party with no treats.

You may be right that there is more to this, but OP is lying to himself if he believes there were no problems at the time. She refused to work, that's a HUGE red flag.

The fact that she tried to justify stealing $1000 of produce due to munchies is just bloody awful.

That's crazy a woman can be charged for a miscarriage. I mean it's not always something that happens on purpose. You sure learn a lot on here.🤔

Baby didn't even exist. Op's (thankfully ex!) gf eventually admitted that she was never pregnant and only said she was so that he "wouldn't leave"... tldr, the gf/ex is one hell of a crazy b***h.

Well that escalated quickly. Never pregnant. What a waste of oxygen that one. So gross, I am just petty enough I'd go to her parents and be like where did you go wrong? Crazy.

That’s an awful ordeal. I’m glad it’s being sorted and that she is not actually going to be the mother of a child, but I have to say this, as a woman it is absolutely f****d up that a woman can be charged for miscarriage.

This OP does not know what "gaslighting" means. Anyway, he should press charges and the girlfriend and friends owe him money. Also, I hope he never has contact with her again.

Which makes me think: how old are these people?? they sound like teens. eta. I just read the updates. bloodyy hell. That girl has some sserious issues - and now legal problems as well.
