Outsmarting an escape room is one of those rare things that make you feel as smart as Sherlock Holmes. However, this guy proved his attentiveness and problem-solving skills even before stepping foot in it. After he and his friends found their plans changing, he got in contact with Bust Out 360, an escape room in Slough, UK, where he had booked an appointment earlier. After hearing that due to company policy, they can’t refund his late cancelation, the genius found a loophole and exploited it perfectly. In fact, his scheme was so brilliant, Bust Out 360 even decided to pay him back.

“It would be very simple to change our policy that refunds are only eligible if it hasn’t been rescheduled before,” Eddie explained to Bored Panda. “However, I’m not too fussed about changing the policy. Having a group ineligible for a refund or to reschedule is such a rare occurrence for us luckily (probably 5 times since we’ve been open), as we like to be able to accommodate for groups as best as we can. We are an entertainment company, after all, it’s our job to let people have fun!”

“We would potentially consider changing the policy if the number of cases like this increases, but it is nowhere near the levels of hotels or doctors offices. As I said, we like to accommodate our customers and they appreciate that. Yeah, from a monetary perspective, it, of course, makes sense to be strict with our policies, but if it’s at the cost of becoming cutthroat business owners over such a minor and rare occurrence, what’s the point? Based on our reviews on TripAdvisor, Google, etc. We seem to be doing quite well for ourselves so far!”

As for the humorous exchange with the customer, Eddie said he initially was preparing for an argument of sorts, which is why he was so amused by the direction the conversation took.

If you’ve ever considered trying an escape room, Eddie said he would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for an alternative form of entertainment. When designing their rooms, for example, he and his team tried to provide, first and foremost, an experience. “For that one hour that they have in the room, they are fully immersed in the storyline and escape (if you’ll pardon the pun) reality and live a different life full of suspense and thrills!”
