My (male) partner and I stopped at a rest stop on a interstate trip (YEARS before #metoo) and the women's room was locked/out of order. I went into the other bathroom with another woman, but my partner and another man waited outside. After we were leaving, I asked why they waited since there were so many stalls available. My partner said VERY QUICKLY "oh no, if a woman is there, you DO NOT go in behind her!" but it never occurred to me, since.... It was a men's room? After he said it, it still seemed unnecessary, but made sense to me as a respectful act in response to an unusual circumstance; Still, if you're ANY gender, using a gender neutral/multi-stall bathroom... How is it violating for another person to enter? If they aren't nefariously flashing you or creeping into your temporary pee compartment... D'f*k you expecting, boo? If the establishment of segregation is not made on purpose, your *preference* is not logically *their* problem.

If you would feel violated by someone of a different gender using the bathroom while you're in it then you shouldn't use a gender neutral bathroom. The stupidity hurts
When you go into a gender neutral bathroom, you are considered an equal to the opposite sex. If you want to be respected for your gender then go to the bathroom that matches it.
Years back, two 40-something women at a YMCA asked for women-only hours because three teenage boys had oppressed them by swimming too close and splashing them. They knew they had been oppressed because they learned about it in their Women's Studies class. It didn't occur to them that they could simply tell the boys to swim further off. (The manager at the Y -- also a 20-something woman -- turned down their request. Besides, what would they have done if teenage girls had oppressed them by splashing them??).
What is so freaking hard about just being respectful to each other? If it's a multi-stall (with walled stalls and doors) bathroom, use it if you want to; if it's a no-stall genderless bathroom with a toilet and a urinal, it's a one-person bathroom and one person at a time should use it. If there is a lady in the one-person BR, just wait to be polite and (gasp!) a bit chivalrous. It's the folks that want to just test boundaries or "I'll teach them!!"-ers that make this difficult. Just be respectful of others!

There was a time when women had separate entrances into pubs, had their own area. A women entering the men's side on her own was a shocker! So faux pas! And look it us all now up in our pubs, doing just fine...
You don't get it both ways. If you want a powder room then you've the one who may have to wait in the long line caused by ladies who make everybody wait. It wouldn't hurt to open a car door for a man once in awhile or bring a bouguet with his favorite beer as a change. There's no reason why we can't do

My extreme bodily functions say that if you need to go, you need to go. If I'm allowed in there, I use it. All of the ones that I've been in have stalls only, so it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

Once I was on a plane, almost empty, and I'm trying to lie down, because the seets next to me were empty. So I'm getting comfotable( And I'm a 5 year old) and this Karen taps on my shoulder, shakes her head at me, and says" You're disturbing the other passangers" I just nod, but I'm thinking, What other people? There is literally 3 other 8 people on this whole plane!( I don't have pictures)

Placed my order, and then sat in the lobby staring at my phone. A white family comes in. Out of courtesy, I acknowledge them by head nodding like how black dudes greeting in passing. A few seconds goes by and the dad impatiently asks, "So are you going to seat us or what?" Mind you, I'm wearing a full suit with a magnetic name badge that clearly says my name and Ford Motor Company. This is where the story could've ended but I decided to be a d**k. So I got up, grabbed some menus, and sat them. Promptly sat my ass back down. Dad blurts out he's ready to order. When he asks why I'm not writing anything down, I reassured him I memorized everything...only to sit right back in the lobby. Dad is livid. Confronts me.
