Acting like an entitled, spoiled brat won’t win you any favors and won’t make you any new friends. In fact, you’re bound to lose a few if you don’t tone it down and continue making other people’s lives a living hell.

To you and I, these people are simply huge jerks who are best left ignored. But to the internet, they’re known as ‘Karens,’ no matter their actual gender or real name. Shaming ignorant Karens has become so huge, it’s even spawned its own subreddit, the ‘Eff You Karen’ community that shows everyone how not to act if you want to be a good person.

In the mood for some more examples of unearned entitlement and outrage? Once you’re done upvoting the pics that made your jaw drop in this list, check out Bored Panda’s previous article about the ‘Eff You Karen’ community right over here.

The ‘Eff You Karen’ subreddit, founded in late 2017, is now homing in on the 1.2-million-member mark. Some of the subreddit’s rules include avoiding political topics, avoiding witch hunts, and censoring social media identities in order to protect the people being poked fun at.

They might be in the wrong and be way too entitled, but there are very few people who actually deserve being spammed by a bunch of angry internet users. Everyone makes mistakes and we need to leave enough room for people to grow and become better. Though, of course, that’s not an excuse for acting like a horrible, entitled person in the first place.

In a previous interview, I spoke about Karen memes and the context surrounding them with Matt Schimkowitz, Know Your Meme’s Senior Editor. According to him, there’s lots of potential for the meme to be insensitive and even offensive to women, so care must be taken when using this type of humor. He put it very plainly that we should all meme with caution, whatever the meme might be.

“I think that users of the meme should be cognizant that what they're meme-ing might not be their intent anymore. It's very possible that the meme could grow even farther to exhibit misogynistic tendencies, which are somewhat already present,” Matt warned those who use Karen memes to be aware of the context.

At the core of using memes for humor lies intent. Know Your Meme’s Senior Editor Matt pointed out that the Karen meme, something that’s used and enjoyed by many people, could eventually become connected to something that many would find offensive if people with sexist beliefs started using the term as a “catchall for all women.”

Though we can’t expect memes to be completely neutral. “Meme-ing can be nihilistic artform and rewards really ugly behavior in some cases. Sometimes, what starts as a fairly inoffensive meme can grow into something really hateful, like Pepe the Frog. I could see that happening to Karen—though, I'm not really sold one way or the other on the debate."

According to Matt, it’s hard to find the exact origin of the Karen meme. However, he personally believes that the most convincing origin story is a bit from Dane Cook's 2005 comedy special , "The Friend That Nobody Likes" where Karen is given this title. "This is one of the earliest examples that we have to using a specific name to stand in for a whole type of person, and it's a comedic trope that we've seen dozens of times over the last 15 years," Matt explained the possible origins of the meme to Bored Panda.

So as a practicing Christrian: No. A thousands times no do not have my religion subsidized by the government, taught by the government, or required to be taken at a government school. While I think many of y'all need Jesus (lol), I would not want to be forced to take a religious class from another faith and ideological consistency forces me to consider other faiths (or you nonfaiths) would view it the same way. Also, on another note: while I believe in the possibility of demonic possession, I believe that God gave us a rational mind to think and to figure things out, and to use science to better our lives, in this case by educating about mental health. Information is a good thing.

Maybe there could be a class relating to world religions or culture, simply learning about different points of view. But choosing a religion that leads you on your own path is different. Nobody should be forced. That really defeats the point.

Hey Christian with mental illnesses here. Yes! Jesus can set you free! He makes it easier and bearable but guess what? That's how it feels for me. I still take medicine and therapy. Do not use Jesus as a weapon when he would be with people such as your close minded self to help open your heart. The mind and heart are connected. Go read the Bible lady- clearly you aren't too sure on what it means to be a Christian. To those who don't believe in Jesus I still suggest learning about psychology- super cool :) oh and you're just as loved by me.

demonic possession was what they called mental illness four thousand years ago because they didn't know how the mind worked. The sciencey way is to adapt, change, update with new information - and somewhere in acts, Jesus said the same thing - so Even Jesus believed in science.

Ugh I’ve known “Christians” like this. They’re absolutely opposed to any type of therapy and mental health. That you just need to pray and it will all go away. Praying is great, but you need to take action and seek help, therapy, medication, support groups. There’s also the “stoic” ones that think any outward emotion or sharing feelings is inappropriate. It’s sickening. There’s actually a few Christian books that combat this toxic thought process that can invade a lot of churches.

Demonic possession was religion's ignorant attempt to explain psychiatric illness back in the bronze age. This is now the 21st century. Time for the biblical Karens to catch up on all the enlightenment that's happened since then. And also to simply stop being an ass.

I have borderline and my father's religious girlfriend tried to pray the devil out of me. I am not joking, this actually happened. Biggest irony...I have borderline because my father phisically and mentally abused me and continues to gaslight me. Eff all these people.

Hell, my entire family needs an exorcism. If mental illness was a cover for demonic possession, I guess we're her new overlords.

Perhaps Jesus can set my fellow missionary free from his prosthetic leg. The fake limb is just a cover for demonic possession. But even though he was demonically possessed with a man made leg, he could sure teach the gospel.

I attended a church that taught exactly this. I watched them humiliate girl with tourettes by bringing her in front of the congregation and shaking her by the head while speaking in tongues and rebuking demons at the tops of their lungs. This is not an uncommon practice. It's a large part of why I am now a militant atheist. My buddy continues to try and save his marriage by having repeated "exorcisms" rather than getting counseling and learning to treat his wife with decency and respect.

My gosh, I guess my ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, and aspergers that was diagnosed by my christian grandfather who is a doctor/scientist, and then confirmed by my christian psychologist was just a lie to cover up my demonic possession that somehow went unnoticed by my great grandfather who is a preacher, my aunt and uncle who teach the youth group at my church, and my other grandparents who are missionaries. Wow.

hmm ok yes and no. Mental health is a REAL thing. but sometimes, it's demonic influence, not possession, influence and possession are two very different things. So yes, mental health should ABSOLUTELY be taught in schools. Especially with the suicide trend / rates of kids. BUT if you are from a family of faith, you should ALSO (not INSTEAD of) examine that avenue as well.

"Spook worshipping" and "faith" are not even worthy avenues to examine to begin with. You can't factually research superstitious ignorance other than to demonstrate what an empirically bankrupt dead end it is. What a complete waste of time

Came out of the closet, got on meds, that seems to have done a better job, I can't imagine why...they thought me being a lesbian was a phase, nope, being a Christian was the phase for me, still a lesbian twenty years later!

Studies have shown that teens today face more stress than any previous generation. The modern lifestyle-lack of community and family support, less exercise, no casual and unstructured technology-free play, less sunshine and more computer/social media all factor into the equation. Teens and adolescent suicides have continued to rise in an alarming way in the last few years. They face more pressure, stress and worry than ever before, and are using more drugs and alcohol.

F you karen! No matter how hard you try you are going straight to hell with a private room because it's no need to suffer more than going to hell. I think the devil would show the rest of the doomed people some mercy like not have to face you for eternity. If you were in my country and said that, you would be taken by force by the police and be locked up in a mental asylum. And no one would care. Here you treat people with respect and we don't tolerate having a sphycho loose among us.
