Woman Leaves Her Entitled Boyfriend And His Teen Daughter 800 Miles Away From Home After They Ruined Her Family Vacation

Going on a trip with your partner is a great way to see if your characters actually match… or if you just think that they do. There’s nothing like spending extended periods of time together, with a bit of stress and new environments thrown in, to see who someone really is underneath the smiles and jokes. Unfortunately, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

One redditor, a 27-year-old woman with two young sons who are 6 and 9 years old, shared how an awesome road trip she’d planned for them went sour. And it all began when her 44-year-old boyfriend ‘Dave’ and his 17-year-old daughter decided that they wanted to crash the trip for some bonding experience. That was a huge mistake. The redditor’s patience eventually broke and she was forced to take drastic measures.

Scroll down for the full story, and be sure to let us know in the comments what you think about the entire drama, dear Pandas. But be warned—the entitlement and rudeness that the boyfriend and his daughter showed is off the charts.

A family trip that was supposed to be fun quickly devolved into a nightmarish road trip

Here’s the full story about how rudeness and entitlement can lead to more karma than you can handle

It’s bad enough that the boyfriend and his daughter joined the redditor’s long-planned vacation without being asked to. It’s bad enough that they were miserable company. But the worst part? The author of the post wasn’t able to do anything with her kids. You know, despite the entire trip being about them and what they wanted.

So it’s not surprising that she snapped when she did. Really, she had the patience of a saint. But even saints can’t (and shouldn’t!) tolerate people who trample on their feelings and make their kids feel awful.

The woman left her boyfriend of three years and his whiny queen-of-a-daughter 800 miles from home. At least she had the decency to drop them off at a car rental place. The kicker? The teenage daughter didn’t want to use a rental car. Not that they had enough money for one… because she had spent most of daddy’s cash already!

This entire story explains the vital need to have strong boundaries. Both within romantic, as well as familial relationships. When all else fails, open and honest communication about boundaries can help salvage the relationship. Or at least help put all the cards on the table.

Parenting blogger Samantha Scroggin told Bored Panda previously that good communication solves a lot of issues in family contexts. For instance, it can help prevent your loved ones from misinterpreting your actions for rudeness or a lack of appreciation.

“I think when establishing boundaries with family members, being clear and using good communication are the best routes,” she told us how to get ahead of heated arguments.

However, this means that everyone has to be able to communicate their thoughts and feelings freely. It’s always a two-way street. Samantha noted that people are different and have different personalities, so some might avoid conflict and refuse to speak about what troubles them openly.

Redditors had a lot to say about the road trip from hell. Here are some of their thoughts

The reason why men date women 20 years younger than themselves, is because women their own age would not tolerate more than 5 minutes of their b******t. Younger women are usually further behind on that learning curve. If Dave didn't have enough money to get him and his lovely child home, he shouldn't have been on the trip in the first place. I'm glad you prioritized yourself and your boys. Move on up!

Another unnecessary request for validation - no, you are not the AH, he is, and it should have been obvious before you even entered your username, nevermind typing up the story. But, d*mned if I didn't cheer when two bags of rubbish were dumped at the kerb of the rental place!

I agree. She is not the AH, in this case. But, I won't judge Dave. Just like her, he was looking out for his child. Was it right, the way he treated her? No. Was she right to abandon him? Yes. Should it have taken three years for her to know the kind of person he was, while raising two children by herself? No.

I would've dumped him the first day when he stranded my kids without food for 3 hours. On the bright side, he'd have been a lot closer to home.

When I was 17 yo, there was absolutely NO way I would have been allowed to say even ONE of the snide comments Ann spouted. And I certainly would NOT have been allowed to spend $1500 in three days, vacation or not. And if a 44 yo man turns around and starts name calling like that, instead of apologizing or attempting to smooth the situation over at all, don’t go anywhere NEAR that cesspool of a human being. Get the hell out of dodge. This whole situation makes my skin crawl, right from the start. Big yikes.

F*ck Dave. This is going to sound straight out of the 70s and I am straight out of the 70s. The idiot needs to grow a pair and man-the-eff-up. The 17 year-old is his daughter. He wants to pamper her, all the power to him. But do it with his own dime and his own time. Don't have enough dough for a trip? Well boo f*cking hoo. Quit bitching like some kid and act like a 44 year old father.

NTA. He was an entitled jerk. Who did he think was putting up with that. And this Ann, to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree would be an understatement . She’s a brat who wasn’t taught anything because “Dad,” and I use the term loosely, was too busy trying to be her friend. Glad you ditched the losers.

Your initial instinct when Dave TOLD YOU, he wanted to come along, "as a bonding experience", was spot on. A trip involving two families takes time planning. Everyone has to be invested, and involved in the planning. A theme park day for the boys, with an afternoon shopping trip for Dave and his daughter mid day. Free time. Together time.Who drives your car? You do. Why? From a clearly pragmatic perspective, who is responsible when Dave drives your car? You are. Also, a considerate person would never ask to "tag along" on your hard earned, well planned family vacation. A person who wants to impress you, and likes your children might take the boys aside, and give them a little spending money. Even add a little extra, suggesting to surprise Mom with a special treat. Even if it's twenty dollars in a an envelope. It's a thoughtful gesture that would have spoke volumes to you, and your boys. And the language used? Wrong. You did the right thing for you, and your boys in showing them this is not how you treat people, period. Bravo, and overdue.

Dont take him back no matter what. You did right making him get his own way home. I doubt he will have learned anything from it. Shake the stink off this piece of s**t.

I kept wondering where you would pack $1500 worth of stuff in a car already loaded with 5 people and all their luggage on a long road trip. Teenage girls can be ferociously self centered, entitled and judgemental and to put her in a car with someone who is not her Dad and throw in 2 young naturally rowdy boys sounds like the highway to hell. A steel cage death match would be picnic compared to that. I really admire women that take no crap from guys like that. She is a one fierce momma which is awesome.

Really? :/ sometimes older men take advantage of younger women, but my parents were 16 years apart and really loved & took care of each other. And you’d look at their relationship and say “barf?” Instead of categorizing anything and everything as either good or bad with absolutely no exceptions, let’s maybe take a moment to think about the deeper stuff. Age isn’t everything, it’s how you treat someone. Life and humanity are much more nuanced than that.

Dave is 44yo, and he thinks it's okay for him and his spoiled brat daughter to mooch off of his struggling 27yo girlfriend?? It sounds like Dave lost what little manhood he might have ever had a long time ago. Drop him, block him, and forget him. But honestly, if his daughter was that much of a little b-tch to the OP, then she should have stood her ground right from the beginning, and said "NO!", and left them at home. WARNING SIGNS!!! There's always warning signs. Well, at least she found out what a loser Dave turned out to be, so all was not lost. And it must have been a wonderful feeling for the OP when she finally exploded and told them to, "GET THE F-CK OUT OF MY CAR!!" when they were still hundreds of miles from home. Ahh... a missed viral video opportunity indeed!

This trip was a great idea - if that idea was to identify over a few days issues that hadn't become obvious during the previous three years. I hope they made it worth it rather than tossing what may be a great relationship after some effort. OP clearly wasn't prepared for a 17 year old, and the 17 year old wasn't prepared for any time with kids half her age. Too bad it cost so much to reveal everything it did.

First, if I had planned a trip with only my kids , and my man and hes daughter said they wanted to go , I'd say no , especially if the daughter didn't like me , that would be my red flag ... Then 2nd the fact you let them come along because your nice , and did what they did , no man or someone else's kid would of disrespected my children or myself , before leaving to go road trip I would of stopped and said get out before heading out of town , I applaud you for being so patient, and glad you tried to give them an opportunity but im glad you left him .. Good for you , you and your kids deserve better And at least you left him at a car rental ... not in the desert, cause thats where I would of left them ... Good luck God bless

I can't believe how awful they both were to you and your kids. Who invites themselves and their bratty daughter on vacation with someone girlfriend or not. It's sickening that a 44 year old man can't get themselves home. I've been on vacation with and without my boyfriend of 7 years, and with and without my son. Now that I have moved in with my beau, I'm still gonna go on vacation without him because I bank more time and have to use some of it. He goes on fishing and hunting trips with the boys without me. But, we're adults so we don't have issues like the OP. But if I did, that would have been a red flag to be single again. People talking about age are dumb as s**t. These aren't underage kids they are adults. I know multiple couples where the male is 10-15 years younger then the female. Funny how not a single woman has ever brought up how that's inappropriate. Grow up. When it comes to this situation though. I'm glad she bailed on him. don't you think it's a bit off to date someone who's in the age range to have been your kid's babysitter? we understand they're both adults but that doesn't change the fact that large age gaps tend to have a power dynamic in advantage of the older partner. also I'm a woman and I think older women who date men in their 20s are predatory...

Don't look back with regret because you allowed someone else to dictate what you can do. Stand up for your sons. Be their hero. Be the head of your household. You are theonly person that cares about them. So show them you care and are there for them no matter what else happens in their life. I don't totally agree with teh NTA votes, because I think, you should hae said something much earlier. On day two, to be exact. I can understand kicking them out of the car, but letting something escalate to this point is just immature

When I went to Ireland the first time my parents wanted to come along. I insisted on renting the car myself and said if there was any screaming or fighting I'd drop them at the next car rental place. I only had to tell them I was going to do it twice, and they shut up. Yes, that's right, they were the parents and I was the child.

I can’t find a single comment stating the obvious: how one sided this report is. How typical the situation. How normal for teens to be jealous of Dad ‘s gf. But sadly typical many gf are jealous of their partners children—just plain wish they didn’t exist. I’ve commiserated with many friends about their partner’s offspring, then find out they are /ind to their part in the situation. It’s rampant, as evidenced by the emotionality of comments to this story. And sad, given the high# of blended families today. Bottom line: Don’t be with someone if you don’t like their kid(s) for whatever reason. This woman has stayed with him knowing how ridiculous his child is? Nah…she is not reporting her part in the situation. Probably not very aware of it—by choice. Makes for a lively story, touches nerves, and brings on comments. She’s likely still with him, fighting about the trip in front of her kids. Eventually they’ll become self righteous teenagers behaving like the girl in the story.

Some people see you doing something good and try to steal your thunder. You were not the AH, you were the lightning bolt. Inspired by your creation, he tried to hijack the very energy of it and claim it as his own. That makes him, effectively, a parasite. For someone without much self-confidence to create anything of their own, such theft can be intoxicating tempting. Anyone can unwittingly do this to some small extent and most of us have, on some smaller scale. But make no mistake, his insistence on continuing with the act once realized means he is only about himself. And you can see how completely he has indoctrinated his daughter into that behavior. You and your sons have dodged a very nasty bullet. Good work. Make sure they understand what they saw for future human evaluation.

NTA. The boyfriend was wrong to ask to be invited in the first place. If she didn’t offer beforehand, he should’ve left it alone. The woman needed to stick to her original planning. It was a trip for her and her boys, not anyone else. Particularly if the teenage daughter previously told the woman she was boring. No need to invite that type of energy to a family trip. Dave could’ve planned something separate at another time.

Dave couldn't & won't plan something at a later date with his daughter. Because Dave will never have the money to do so unless he borrows, begs, etc. I'm a 59 yr old woman who's met plenty of Daves. I've spent money I didn't really have. NO MORE!!

In my opinion, the terrible trip experience could of been completely avoided if the woman had laid down boundaries with Dave, and been upfront about not wanting him to go. I understand people want to avoid conflict, sometimes it just better to speak your mind.

Definitely a fake story. Lots of details about day one but then suddenly it's been three days and boyfriend has somehow spent $1500? And who goes on a road trip and stops driving at 3pm on the first day? What a waste of a day! I also can't believe the guy could spend $1500 in three days and also not have enough to get home faster. Just can't believe this is real, at the very least it's been heavily dramatized.

Wait! Isn't the lady closer in age to the daughter than to her ex Boyfriend? Anyway.. The problem is that this guy is unable to say no to his daughter. He does not really know how human relation works. Probably of those people who think they can buy love with money and hobbies. But in a relation with mate or family, you need to be attentive with each other and talk. No wonder he invited him self to the trip "something fun to do together". I hate this kind of narcissists, took me all to let my first boyfriend after more than 4 years! Yeah! He was like that and he doesn't miss me! Good choice here!

But, let me tell you everyone of his friends is cant you let by gones be by gones. The ex BFriend keeps se ding messages asking to be friends again. No apology, no let me pay you back the several hundred dollars, no I broke the hypocratic oath by letting you walk around on a seriously sprained foot that I at no point asked to examjne that I also contributed to with my drunken antics. Relationship tends to get ugly sometimes but during the phase that both wants to understand the ideology of each other character and being able to learn one another at a time where one can only work with a “chemotherapeutic phase”where chemistry meets therapeutic and thats where you can find time and understanding but adding a problem to your thesis you cannot get the result as you would expect the boyfriend was wrong to crash her party without any consent or 2 week notice let alone bringing her daughter which was totally wrong in every sense. Because it was a phase in the relationship to actually understand one another … but the boyfriend did not respect her institutions of her character……

DR SUNNY used his powerful spell to bring a smile to my face, bringing the man back with his spells, at first I thought I was dreaming when my husband got back on my knees begging me to forgive and take her back and even since then he loves me more than I do I ever expected, so I took an oath to myself to tell the world about DR SUNNY because he is a great person. Idk. This story is very one sided. She has been with him for several years, and not the first time his kid was rude to her. I think there is a lot more to the story. It’s hard to blend families. It takes maturity and self honesty. I’m leery of any story that paints one person as perfect and others as complete AH with no redeeming qualities. Especially when it comes to your kids/my kids, it’s emotionally charged. And what about gender? If it was a woman with a bratty kid left 800 miles from home with not enough money? I don’t think this story is unbiased, nor does OP really wonder if she was in the wrong. We have to learn how to step parent. Don’t date people whose kids you don’t like. Then you don’t have to leave them 800 miles away.

You don't fakking ditch someone 800 miles away when you know they have no money, unless the tried to KILL you, that's not ok. She should've stood her ground and said no from the start. Since she didn't, it was on her to make sure everyone got back THEN she could dump this guy, have him make up for it, whatever. All these idiots telling her this was OK needs a big slap in the face. Glad she dumped him anyhow, but can't wait to hear about her next BF. It does appear she is more interested in a BF than the welfare of her kids. Ann didn't deserve this. Doesn't sound like she asked to go on this trip, you'd be snappy too if your dad forced you on a road trip with his girlfriend and young children none of whom you like. She doesn't have to put up with noise and dirt and she's not required to like the family her dad is forcing her into. Sure she made one or two out of line comments but that's saintly patience considering the dad she has to put up with and her youth.

She deserved it, I have bad anxiety and get forced to places all the time. She was extremely rude AND old enough to know better. She is obviously spoiled, forced to the trip, sure, but she could of told her displeasure in a better way, it sounds like the OPs 6 and 9 year old was better behaved then the 17 year old. She also treated OP with no respect and knew what was going to happen, plus OP spent months on this and the boyfriend decided to just "tag along" and i think that's his excuse to being a cheap b******e. Also even if you are around someone you dislike its not common curtesy to say it to their face and act like that unless they've never been disiplined correctly.

Of course. A thread filled with women backing up deserting a broke man and his teen daughter 800 miles from home. Another one-sided story with the man as the villain and a completely blameless, suffering woman. 3 years they been dating? Yet she had no clue this would happen? And the daughter spent ALL dad's money in a couple days? On what? And she still abandoned them? If the situation was the other way around, you women would have screamed MONSTER for abandoning a woman and her kids on the side of the road with no money... No matter what they did...it was heartless, cruel and spiteful of her to do that.... And don't think it's not obvious how you other women have turned this into a sh*t on men thread.

This lady clearly has a problem with choosing men in general. The first sign is her two boys without a father. The second sign is Dave. I believe her problem stems from not seeing an AH, and not being able to say, "No", to men that she knows are not right. I'm 100% positive that this isn't the first time that Dave has shown his horrible behavior. I do feel sorry for her as a sweet, lonely, horribly shy, single man myself. All I've ever wanted was a good woman, but I too seem to find women like Dave. And, I've never been aggressive enough to find a really good woman. I've said all my life that I would never leave my woman if she had my kids. But, because of women like Dave, I am lonely, single and 59 years old, with no kids. At least, she has true love in her kids. Dave is Dave, and she is herself. I won't judge Dave, and I won't judge her. They both clearly have true love, separately with their kids, and they clearly value that, and give all to that, which is good.

Yes, she's the axxholes. Glad to see this woman sink to a 17 year olds level. If you take someone on a trip, you have an obligation to take them back. I know responsibility is a hard concep for some women to understand but it's non the less a thing. This guy is an axxholes and a weak axx parent. His daughter is a spoiled rotten cxnt. She has all the right in the world to be mad and when they got home she could do pretty much anything short of violence to this man and I would still call him the axxhole. But she agreed to take them, unless they tried to K!LL her or her boys, she should take them back, end of story. Leaving someone 800 miles from home without money is one of the most axxholes things I've ever heard off. I don't care how obnoxious they were. Just cuz they were axxholes does not mean she wasn't, it's not a zero sum game.

It's creepy of him to date someone so much younger and heroic of you to have been a teen mom and single mom. He is the biggest AH. That being said, both of you are the AH. Your contempt for "the queen" is not a good look for you. You come off as jealous of her. It sounds to me like you're the entitled one, expecting her to like you and want to spend time with you, when really her jerk father sadly forced her into this horribly uncomfortable situation. I pity her. Maybe you just didn't mention all the details, but from the way it's written here, you could have tried some communication and compromise before kicking them out, which is hard, I get it, being assertive and communicating your boundaries is hard. And obviously Dave is the biggest AH of AH's. Glad you moved on.

You should have gave him $100 so he could at least rent the car and go back and return the $1,500 worth of junk and they would have beat you home and everybody would be happy just have him sign a note for it saying that you don't owe him anything and he's sorry for making threats and then you can get a stay away order which he would break for sure and then you can throw them in jail for a long time for wasting your time

I agree. She is not the AH, in this case. But, I won't judge Dave. Just like her, he was looking out for his child. Was it right, the way he treated her? No. Was she right to abandon him? Yes. Should it have taken three years for her to know the kind of person he was, while raising two children by herself? No.

They also would have been in a different room if they came back 3 hours later with my vehicle saying they already ate knowing that you have 2 babies that need to eat. I can't believe how awful they both were to you and your kids. Who invites themselves and their bratty daughter on vacation with someone girlfriend or not. It's sickening that a 44 year old man can't get themselves home. How he allowed his daughter to spend $1,500 in four days when obviously he couldn't afford to pay their way for the remainder of the trip.

I will never allow my partner or their child to crap on me or my child just like I don't expect my boyfriend to put up with my s**t.

He clearly isn't read for a relationship at all. Has nothing to do with age.

don't you think it's a bit off to date someone who's in the age range to have been your kid's babysitter? we understand they're both adults but that doesn't change the fact that large age gaps tend to have a power dynamic in advantage of the older partner. also I'm a woman and I think older women who date men in their 20s are predatory...

I had a similar situation with my so called BFriend of 20 years. Add some manhandling, drunken BS and some serious entitlement issues. Note this AH is a MD specialized in family medicine. ruined my BoyF and I's vacation never mind didnt pay for anything. I had enough aftet he made a scene on the streets at a beer festival crossing everyline any friend could cross. Left that MF at the bus stop at our next destination. Havent spoken to him since. Nothing just I still want you to be my friend. Block, block, block, block. By gones be by gones. Ok enabler you are also gone. Should have dumped hin earlier. NTA

NTA So he let his daughter over spend by $1500.00 and they can't afford to get home too bad. Maybe if he didn't have a teenage brat that thought she was entitled they could have flown home. I wonder if he put up with her complaining when he was the only one there to listen to it.

She was way too nice for dropping them off at a car rental. I would have left them in the middle of nowhere.

The hell? Sadly, the audacity some people are capable of never stops surprising me. Both, he and his daughter, are utter brats. They did it to themselves, I wouldn't have even dropped them off at the rental. Good riddance! Hope you had an amazing time afterwards with your boys!

AGE GROUP IS ONE ..LIKES -vs- DISLIKES... A ROAD TRIP IS NOT WERE BLENDED FAMILIES of ANY AGE SHOULD COMMENCE, IN,LESS THERE IS ALL READY MUTAL RESPECT for ALL PARTIES CONCERNED.... BOYS-vs-ALMOST "woman". ( I IMAGE EDU. WILL NOT BE THE DAUGHTERS' COLLEGIATE INTEREST.) NOW, "MOM" KNOWS, "HIS" THOUGHTS & VALUES REGARDING MOMS' PARENTING and HER RARE BOUNDING TIME, HER EARNED MOMENT and HIS LACK of COMPASSION. I HOPE THE DISCUSSION WITH THE YOUNG MEN WILL REMAIN UP-BEAT. AND, DO ALLOW ALL VENTURES TO BE DETERMINED BY THIS ONE, for THEM. MOM SHAKE A STICK AT IT... BUDGET, PLAN and AGAIN,...SHARE WITH YOUR SONS ANOTHER VENTURE. STAY INVOVLE. DR SUNNY did it again for me, helping to recover the man. My name is Kerina Nicolas and I want to inform the world about the Great Wizard of DR SUNNY who brought my stranger back to me when I thought all hope was lost. so I contacted him and did everything he told me to do, and in fact, I got the result within 48 hours, as he assured me. Do you have problems in the relationship? has your partner broke up with you and you still love and want it back? if you need any help, contact DR SUNNY today as I will give you a 100% guarantee that it will help you as it helped me. Harsh. But could be some truth there. It sounds like she believes she played no part at all in the problems. But she was with him for e years! And his daughter has been rude to her before. I wonder how she really dealt with it for 3 years.

So he can spend circa $1400 on his daughter in 3 days but can’t subsidise his own travel/accommodation? Tough luck for him. Suck it up buttercup. If you’re freeloading then at least be polite to the person you’re freeloading from!

Yea she's the a*****e. This dude is a weak ass parent and a pathetic dude and his daughter is a spoiled rotten cxnt BUT she agreed to take them, she has a responsibility. They're as big assholes as this woman.

Well, to be fair, what is she doing with a BF 20 years older than herself. Where is the boys father? Something doesn't add up here. Glad she dumped him anyhow, but can't wait to hear about her next BF. It does appear she is more interested in a BF than the welfare of her kids. Single mothers should NEVER bring men into the house until b the kids are at least 18.

Assholes all around here. Ann was an a*****e, but Dave was a bigger a*****e for bringing dragging her on a trip she didn't want to go on, and for failing to curb her behavior during the trip. And the OP was an a*****e for stranding them, instead of turning the car around and heading home. Everyone anywhere near the age of reason is an a*****e here, and for all I know the little boys were too.

Now there's no way the little boys were the assholes here. They had their trip shanghaied by a foul teen girl, making the ride and stops a nightmare. They can't be expected to sit in silence, for hours a day, in a car.
