There’s something so sweet about seeing a smartass getting off their high horse. And the subreddit “Don't you know who I am?” is giving us a rare glimpse into multiple such occasions. Created on the 21st of June, 2015, the community has grown to 429,000 members who play a part in collecting all the internet’s “gotcha’s!” gone wrong.
“This is a place for instances of people not realizing who they're talking to is who they're talking about,” says the description, and you must already know what to expect. Like, the embarrassing moment when a recruiter rejects a job candidate and sends him some “write-ups to study to get an understanding of the process” only to find out that those were written by that very candidate.
The level of cluelessness in this post is dangerously high, but this is what makes it particularly funny. So, buckle up, we’re about to feast on some hand-picked Don't you know who I am?’s.

To find out more about the “Don’t You Know Who I Am” subreddit, Bored Panda reached out to its moderator u/Acoustag, who took over as a head moderator around a year ago since the team at the time didn’t have time to maintain the subreddit any longer. u/Acoustag is now in charge of day-to-day operations of the subreddit.
“At the moment, we average around 20 new posts per day, but usually half or less of those actually get approved,” he said. Turns out, the sub had an issue with mass reposting of content in the past, but the mod team has now solved that.
Meanwhile, they try to keep the content fresh. “Certain niche subreddits like ours definitely struggle for new content, though. There are only so many 'Don't You Know Who I Am?' interactions happening each day,” u/Acoustag explained.

Turns out that the viral “Tony Hawk” posts where people don't recognize the legendary skater were the ones that inspired the whole “Don’t You Know Who I Am” concept.
“They definitely started it all for me. Tony holds a special place of reverence in the heart of our community. Just google 'Tony Hawk not recognized Twitter' and you'll find tales of many confused strangers suggesting that Tony Hawk must be related to the skateboarder, Tony Hawk. Or Tony Hawk looks like the skateboarder, Tony Hawk. It's all so ridiculous.”
The overall content in the subreddit is best defined as "light-hearted fun," said the mod. “We're not looking to shame people for acting important, or to 'call them out' for not recognizing somebody important.”

Today, the subreddit has loosened some of the posting rules to allow for more content (posts no longer require well-known people). At the same time, the team “cracked down on reposting rules due to karma-farming accounts. We've held polls in the past to see what changes the community would like to see, but everyone seems to like it as it is,” u/Acoustag concluded.

It's called the Dunning–Kruger effect or, in layman's terms, those who know little think they know everything.
My nose has a deviated septum + chronic rhinitis... and I can breathe just fine with a mask. Never had problems wearing one. The only thing that really bothers me is that my glasses get all foggy, but I can still see enough.
I have an MD, and guess what? I don't know everything. But I do know that Google didn't go to medical school!
What do all those anti-maskers think surgeons wear during a surgery that can take hours?
My niece just gave birth. She labored for 48 hours with a mask. If she can do that, the rest of the world can wear one for the 15 minutes it takes to pick up your gallon of milk and dozen eggs.

I just walked two miles last week woth my mask on. I did not have to but did it just in case anyone walked by and I didn't want to take it on and off. A little uncomfortable but that is it. If I had a breathing issue it could have been a problem, so I can't speak for others individually. But the general info about how masks work and what they do and don't do is something Inleave the the experts.
I'm obese and asthmatic. I wear my mask while I walk/hike for an hour a day in SoCal. Same reasons. I'm doing fine.

to be fair, there ARE plenty of people out there with medical conditions who know more about their conditions than the average doctor does. i know more about my ehlers-danlos than most doctors i see besides my rheumatologist. but this guy is just a douche.

Think of the hundreds of thousand of us RNs, MDs and surgical techs who have died in the operating room because of those stinking masks! Three or four alone just when your granddad had his knee replaced.
Yeah masks suck. But I'd rather be a little bothered for a few minutes than be dead or kill someone close to me because I'm a selfish dickhead...
And furthermore- "lack" of oxygen would cause you to go into asystole, not SVT, which would require a lot of oxygen because the heart rate is so high. But even if this were the case it's simply not the mechanism of SVT. What an idiot.
My anxiety syndrome get in the way when wearing a mask. That is no exuse, so I wear a mask. And my country has not even mandatory masks more then on public transports.
As an older woman, I've discovered that the real issue with discomfort is the heat that builds up under the mask. Does it keep me from breathing? No. But when I'm having a hot flash, it's like having a sauna stuck on your face. But I'll continue to wear it, because I'm a decent human being.
If there is multiple comments from me that are the same I didn't do that, and I don't know what is going on.
I'm glad she knew what the problem was and she could save herself.
Oxygen does not pass through the mask easily. Once you breath out you breath back in carbon dioxide. But still, I don't study the heart. Wearing a mask for to long gives me a headache. But to make people feel safe, I wear one.

No, the point of the mask is to keep you from spreading it to others. And this is something that the CDC and other medical professionals have been saying for nearly a year. The statistics so far have proven that it does stop the spread. Have you seen none of the visual examples showing the spread with and without masks? Google it.

In the reply, I don't know that it would jump out at the recuiter that he was saying he wrote that write-up. Saying " I am literally that guy" might just go over their heads and not even try to interpret it literally. Also, the horrible punctuation and grammar in the resonse would not lend itself to a message that the recruiter is likely to pour over in great detail. They would probably give it the briefest of glances and dismiss it without thought. Not a great comback on D's part.

My dad likes to ask me to work on his car (brake jobs, oil changes, replaced his gas tank once) which is fine, but the he watches me and tries to tell me how to do the work. I'm a SAE certified automotive technician. He sells insurance.
Once had someone argue with me on IG that you couldn't see organs (specifically heart) on x-rays. Me, who went to college for 5 years to be an x-ray tech, which I've been for 15 years now.
I was at a convention once, sitting at a table next to the Dymocks Books stall, underneath a big poster which said "K.J.Taylor" and behind a nameplate which also said "K.J.Taylor". A guy came up to me and said "Hey, uh, is K.J.Taylor here?" I patted myself down and said "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm here!" I guess he was one of my readers who assume I'm a dude, because he looked really confused.
Couldn't finish reading them, I got sick of all the ignorant people who think they know all.
I did finish reading ...just so that I could convince myself that Im not as stupid as I usually think I am.

I think there should be aptitude tests before people are allowed online,
I'm finding it hard to read a lot of the BP posts , as they are mostly about scorning other people and their beliefs. Social media carries a heavy weight in today's society , so carry good weight . No more internet fighting

He continues on like I said nothing, explaining in detail the very thing I said in a much more condensed way. He thinks I just interupt him. (Yes, I admit, but people talk over people in conversations and it isn't meant to shut them up. But if it avoids an unneccessary lengthy story that's been heard, a quick sentence should be OK to state) Ex: him "Trump's people are blaming Twitter and FB for him not having a platform to speak out against the riots". Me: "he had time before the ban. He also has the media" Him: He had time before FB banned him he had time before Twitter. He could have made a phone call and said 'I'll be doing a press conference in 15 minutes' and had every person in the media come out. Just looking for acknowlegment I said that? Even if he then repeats it.
