50 Times People Embarrassed Themselves Because They Didn’t Realize Who They Were Talking To
InterviewThere’s something so sweet about seeing a smartass getting off their high horse. And the subreddit “Don't you know who I am?” is giving us a rare glimpse into multiple such occasions. Created on the 21st of June, 2015, the community has grown to 429,000 members who play a part in collecting all the internet’s “gotcha’s!” gone wrong.
“This is a place for instances of people not realizing who they're talking to is who they're talking about,” says the description, and you must already know what to expect. Like, the embarrassing moment when a recruiter rejects a job candidate and sends him some “write-ups to study to get an understanding of the process” only to find out that those were written by that very candidate.
The level of cluelessness in this post is dangerously high, but this is what makes it particularly funny. So, buckle up, we’re about to feast on some hand-picked Don't you know who I am?’s.

Telling A Doctor To Educate Herself
Why do people just assume that their kids having autism is worse than them dying? Which would you rather have? Plus, she’s right! Vaccines DON’T cause autism!
So much this. I have come across more than one family who refuse to have thier child assessed for autism or to facilitate thier neuro diverse needs becuase they dont want the child to be "labelled" and "s/he just needs to learn" and "i refuse to accept there is anything wrong with him/her". Of course there is nothing wrong with your kid, but you are doing them a disservice by not learning about and supporting thier needs - and you begin this by assessing what thier needs are. Autism is not a death sentence.
Load More Replies...My mother is against vaccines, and medicine in general, so I have had to wait until I am 18 to be able to get them all done... And I foundout that I have had Asperger's all along, so f**k you mom.
If you ever get the opportunity to debate an anti-vaxxer in person, I highly recommend telling them you’re unvaccinated and have Asperger’s. Their reaction in priceless.
Load More Replies...As someone with mild autism, I can say it's hurtful to see people think something is wrong with me just because I can't handle some things, like social situations, as well as others. I understand some autistic people need lots of help in life, but all of us could go without being told it's because of vaccines.
Flitterbug, thank you so much for your input!! Your perspective is incredibly important and remember, ALL of us need help!! Flitterbug, you are perfect and loved!!
Load More Replies...For pro-life antivaxxers: not vaccinating your children is abortion with extra steps.
I think that if some is stupid enough to not vaccinate their children and their children catch whatever preventable disease and infect someone else and that person dies, then the stupid parent, the one who would not vaccinate their child, should be charged, at least, with manslaughter.
If vaccines caused autism, then why weren’t there mass cases of autism when vaccines first started against smallpox in the 18th Century? There are a number of vaccines available that make life so much easier for us. You can get a vaccine to ward off the Plague in places where it still exists. When was the last case of polio? Measles was all but eradicated in the US until these morons started their vaccines cause autism BS. People are utterly selfish.
The vaccine autism link only came about because of a study by Andrew Wakefield about the triple vaccine, MMR. He lied for financial gain. He was struck off. However, the harm was done and people got scared. At the time it was understandable, it needed checking and it was, so it isn't understandable anymore when the facts are very clearly known and easy to find (published results from studies). Since then it has been proven to be rubbish numerous times. This doesn't seem to penetrate some people's thick skulls.
Load More Replies...My son didn't get his mmr vaccine until a bit later in his life (medical reasons) guess what? He has autism and was diagnosed before he got his mmr!! Always gets a shocked silence when I tell anti vaxxers this
My friend's little sister Lina has autism. One day, my friend (Finn) got into a debate with an anti-vaxxer who claimed that vaccines cause autism. The anti-vaxxer used Lina as an example. Finn told them that Lina got her vaccines after she was diagnosed with autism. The person's jaw dropped then they walked away.
There was literally ONE study that correlated vaccines with autism...and the physician who authored it completely made it up. The UK yanked his medical license.
Then he toddled of to another country and carried on preaching his total b*llocks. Despite the study being thoroughly discredited. Many attempts to replicate the results have been made and not once, not one single time, has anyone ever been able to. It is complete and utter rubbish and yet people still listen to him. Shame he couldn't have been locked up quite frankly - he's caused far more harm than he has ever done good.
Load More Replies...Why do people act like their child having autism is the end of the world?
Fear. They worry that they'll get a child very high on the spectrum. A friend of mine has a child who is severely affected, it isn't easy and her life has changed beyond all recognition. He is stage 3 - non verbal, extreme sensitivity to sounds and many repetitive behaviours such as door slamming. If they go to a mall with an escalator they can be there for ages because he will get loudly frustrated if he isn't allowed to go on it many, many times. He is nearly a full grown man - if he doesn't want to go somewhere she can't make him. For a while she was seriously depressed and struggled to cope. She still struggles to cope because it is tough. One day she will be too old to look after him and she'll have to place him in care and it worries her a lot that he may be badly cared for and unhappy. Sorry, you asked and I felt it deserved a proper answer. Facts still remain vaccines do not cause autism.

Dr.Baldwin, for people like French ED ,"you can't fix stupid."
I'm Autistic and to be honest, there are a few pretty awesome perks to it.
CDC has never actually proven they don't and no, doctors don't know everything.
My nephew has autism and he's fifteen now, he can't read nor write, goes to special education, he doesn't understand emotions and he hits himself and others when he's got one of his episodes. He's getting all the help he needs, my sister won't ever give up on him and gives him lots of love he can never return. No, it's not caused by being vaccinated, we all knew something was wrong when he was a baby. But I keep hearing people say (and reading) how Autism isn't bad, forgetting that yes, it can be bad.
You KNOW that's right, Lena! There are 3 family members with high-functioning Autism & 2 parents of 2 of these family members who believe they are on the spectrum. All of them were vaccinated; I had polio because I was unable to get vaccinated. My condition is much worse than any of them, yet none of us think autism (or polio) is worse than death!!
Yeah, everybody should get their scientific/medical information from former Playboy Playmates (Jenny McCarthy is the idiot that started that BS).
My kid has autism. He had it when he was born. It was... kinda obvious even at birth. He did not get autism from a vaccine. I'm guessing the French Ed lady also had vaccines as a child, as did I, and though I can only speak for myself - no autism... so...yeah.
As opposed to French Ed, whose education consists of a post he read online.
I just can't understand these anti-vaxxers! I'll never forget when my mum was pregnant with my younger brother, I was 5. She was sitting on the toilet one morning and I walked into the bathroom and asked her what all these wee spots were on me, she freaked out and told me to stay back from her, which then freaked me out! But she was right in doing that - I had Rubella! Please vaccinate your kids!
The reason or excuses that parents conjure in their heads is astonishing!! We have so many vaccines that have saved us through the years. Look at the affects of polio and how many people suffered, yet there has not been ONE case that points to vaccinations causing AUTISM! Are parents trying to validate their child’s autism to vaccines? If so, their children should be removed!! Plus, it’s not your RIGHT to refuse to vaccinate your children over the health of other people!! If you refuse to vaccinate, stay home permanently!! When my kids were of age, I can assure you that both of were vaccinated for meningitis! Better to have a healthy child, than a dead child.
Lol oh my bad... I didn't see the 'don't' in the photo. Carry on, Dr! Lol let me proceed to shut all the way up.
Load More Replies...Phew that is a heaps of work you've done there girl! Good on ya. Also according to my calculations should be in her 40s (unless she somehow started college early) and damn she looks younger than 40, I'd say like late 20s or beginning of 30s
I will never understand how people in this society are so uninformed that they would rather their child die from an illness that could be prevented then have autism. A child with autism is still alive.
What parent anywhere has said that they "would rather their child die from an illness that could be prevented than have autism"? Really, who has said this? The only people talking about wishing death on children seems to be the mobs who join up to criticise the parents of autistic children, or people who want to bash antivaxxers. I homeschooled my (fully vaccinated) autistic child and met antivaxxers. Nature-loving types. You couldn't hope to meet better parents so this "they would rather their child die" comes across as hateful.

To find out more about the “Don’t You Know Who I Am” subreddit, Bored Panda reached out to its moderator u/Acoustag, who took over as a head moderator around a year ago since the team at the time didn’t have time to maintain the subreddit any longer. u/Acoustag is now in charge of day-to-day operations of the subreddit.
“At the moment, we average around 20 new posts per day, but usually half or less of those actually get approved,” he said. Turns out, the sub had an issue with mass reposting of content in the past, but the mod team has now solved that.
Meanwhile, they try to keep the content fresh. “Certain niche subreddits like ours definitely struggle for new content, though. There are only so many 'Don't You Know Who I Am?' interactions happening each day,” u/Acoustag explained.

Turns out that the viral “Tony Hawk” posts where people don't recognize the legendary skater were the ones that inspired the whole “Don’t You Know Who I Am” concept.
“They definitely started it all for me. Tony holds a special place of reverence in the heart of our community. Just google 'Tony Hawk not recognized Twitter' and you'll find tales of many confused strangers suggesting that Tony Hawk must be related to the skateboarder, Tony Hawk. Or Tony Hawk looks like the skateboarder, Tony Hawk. It's all so ridiculous.”
The overall content in the subreddit is best defined as "light-hearted fun," said the mod. “We're not looking to shame people for acting important, or to 'call them out' for not recognizing somebody important.”

Having said that, some interactions can indeed get a little heavy. Like, “involving gender, race, religion, etc.—we aim to keep the discussion clean & civil, and remind our community that most posts here boil down to an 'Oops! I didn't realize!' moment.”
Today, the subreddit has loosened some of the posting rules to allow for more content (posts no longer require well-known people). At the same time, the team “cracked down on reposting rules due to karma-farming accounts. We've held polls in the past to see what changes the community would like to see, but everyone seems to like it as it is,” u/Acoustag concluded.

In the reply, I don't know that it would jump out at the recuiter that he was saying he wrote that write-up. Saying " I am literally that guy" might just go over their heads and not even try to interpret it literally. Also, the horrible punctuation and grammar in the resonse would not lend itself to a message that the recruiter is likely to pour over in great detail. They would probably give it the briefest of glances and dismiss it without thought. Not a great comback on D's part.

My dad likes to ask me to work on his car (brake jobs, oil changes, replaced his gas tank once) which is fine, but the he watches me and tries to tell me how to do the work. I'm a SAE certified automotive technician. He sells insurance.
Once had someone argue with me on IG that you couldn't see organs (specifically heart) on x-rays. Me, who went to college for 5 years to be an x-ray tech, which I've been for 15 years now.
I was at a convention once, sitting at a table next to the Dymocks Books stall, underneath a big poster which said "K.J.Taylor" and behind a nameplate which also said "K.J.Taylor". A guy came up to me and said "Hey, uh, is K.J.Taylor here?" I patted myself down and said "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm here!" I guess he was one of my readers who assume I'm a dude, because he looked really confused.

Why is it when when actual scientists are talking about their flied on twitter, people say "You're not a scientist! Get a degree! Do some research!", yet when Karen posts about the dangers of vaccination ingredients, or how every country and industry in the world are working together on a COVID hoax and don't want the civilians to know the world is flat, they are all ears. I think there should be aptitude tests before people are allowed online,
I'm finding it hard to read a lot of the BP posts , as they are mostly about scorning other people and their beliefs. Social media carries a heavy weight in today's society , so carry good weight . No more internet fighting
This topic reminds me: Mansplaining| Who's the Ahole here: My wonderful husband has a thing where he is saying something and I willl interject a quick sentence to let him know I know what he is talking about. (Yes, I admit, but people talk over people in conversations and it isn't meant to shut them up. But if it avoids an unneccessary lengthy story that's been heard, a quick sentence should be OK to state) Ex: him "Trump's people are blaming Twitter and FB for him not having a platform to speak out against the riots". Me: "he had time before the ban. He also has the media" Him: He had time before FB banned him he had time before Twitter. He could have made a phone call and said 'I'll be doing a press conference in 15 minutes' and had every person in the media come out. Just looking for acknowlegment I said that? Even if he then repeats it.
