14 Celebs Are Showing Their Support For Elliot Page Coming Out As Trans
Some may remember him from Juno, while the younger audience may associate him with Umbrella Academy, but nonetheless, we can all agree on Elliot Page being a genius actor. And after he came out as transgender this Tuesday, celebrities flooded social media with support.
Elliot previously came out as gay back in 2014. This week, he announced in a letter shared on his social media that he prefers he/him and they/them pronouns. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” Elliot shared in an emotional post.

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” Elliot wrote in a letter shared on social media.
“I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along the journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”

“I also ask patience. My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence. To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering. The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences. In 2020 alone it has been reported that at least 40 transgender people have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx trans women. To the political leaders who work to criminalize trans health care and deny our right to exist and to all of those with a massive platform who continue to spew hostility towards the trans community: you have blood on your hands. You unleash a fury of vile and demeaning rage that lands on the shoulders of the trans community, a community in which 40% of trans adults report attempting suicide. Enough is enough. You aren’t being ‘canceled,’ you are hurting people. I am one of those people and we won’t be silent in the face of your attacks.”
“I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse, and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.”

Both Elliot’s Instagram and Twitter accounts were flooded with messages of support from all around the world, including some A-listers. “Love you Elliot!” Jameela Jamilo commented on Instagram. “Elliot rules!” wrote Miley Cyrus, accompanying her message with black heart emojis.
Of course, not only celebrities were celebrating Elliot’s big moment. On Twitter, one user left a heartfelt message: “When I came out as trans and chose my name, I put my thoughts on a table and tried to decide why the name I’d picked resonated with me so deeply. My brain kept coming back to sharing a name with you. I don’t anymore, but I share something even better now”

Ugh, already, there are some transphobic comments here. To all of the transphobes on BP who will read this: f*ck you. Elliot is 'he,' not 'her' or 'it.' Respect his pronouns. I saw a comment saying that Elliot came out as trans just so he could be in the spotlight again. Excuse me? He's one of the major stars on TV, there's no need for him to say things to be in the spotlight again. He's already in the spotlight. Kudos to Elliot for being brave and coming out! I send all my love to him ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 🏳️🌈
I mean, no hate to Elliot Page, and I don't think he's doing this for publicity at all, good on him. But I wouldn't call him 'one of the biggest starts on tv,' maybe one day, but Umbrella Academy is not that huge, and apart from that his last big hit was X-men in 2014. I mean he's pretty well known but I wouldn't say he's super famous. Unfortunately apart from Juno he's always kinda gotten bit parts. Hopefully he gets more roles now.
Load More Replies...so sweet! as a trans guy who wants to enter the film/music industry this gives me hope, makes it seem less impossible. I'm so glad that we are progressing as a society and are now able to easier accept trans people. some people might not realize it, but support is super helpful for trans people, you don't have to go over the top to be the best person in the world, just show them that you are ok with it, and they will be happy :) keep up the good work world x
For all the idiots out there: There is physical evidence in humans that prove they really are not the gender assigned at birth. Hormonal and chromosomal evidence. It is not a mental issue. This is also why they can know that children that express themselves as wrongly gendered are for real (and yes, there is undoubtedly a phase in which all kids want to be a boy/girl whatever they are not). There are actual medical tests they can do to prove that.
Some people really need to understand that being trans is f*****g amazing and to whoever says different ( I’m talking to you Susie, Mshuari, ..., and Peter f*****g Weir!) needs to realize that anyone apart of the LGBTQ+ are valid no matter what. I’m so f*****g sick and tired of the dumb s**t that spews out of your small minded mouths. Do some f*****g research and have an actual factual and educated answer to a topic such as this and not some half assed demeaning comment. And if you have nothing nice to say then leave and move one with your life! All your comments are doing is make you look like an uneducated homophobe.
Being trans is no more amazing than me being straight, there is nothing to understand and that is ridiculous, what we are is not "amazing", it is what it is. You sound unhinged in your rant, sadly that seems to be a trait of the trans community. You say a 'homophobe', I thought it was a transphobe in this scenario, you really need to pay more attention to your own ramblings. You only push people further away with some immature outbursts.

Yes. That is true. But why does being born with a penis make you a man? Because people invented the terms "male" and "female" and decided that your chromosomes were the end-all-be-all for everything about you as a person. And when someone doesn't conform to those arbitrary standards, people like you get mad because we can't have deviations from the norm. Educate yourself. Oh, and there are men who dress like women and vice versa. They're called crossdressers. They are different from transgender people. Usually, transgender people take hormones or undergo surgery so their body more closely resembles who they actually are. It goes beyond dress.
idk why people are downvoting you... you're right??? what
Load More Replies...You Idiot. First Elliot is the star of Umbrella Academy, one of the biggest shows on right now.. so what low point would you be referring to?! Second, this is not gossip. this is PROGRESS! start accepting others and learn to celebrate humanity!
Load More Replies...It? IT??? Go f*ck yourself. Elliot is a human being. His pronouns are he/him and they/them, not 'she' or 'it.' This is news because apparently, you don't understand how many trans people have been killed in 2020. Elliot is one of the biggest stars in today's world, there's no need for him to say things just to be back in the spotlight. 🏳️🌈
