Big Game Hunter Gets Killed By Elephant He Was Trying To Shoot, And Here’s How Internet Reacts
An Argentinian hunter named Jose Monzalvez was killed after being crushed by an elephant. The 46-year-old was part of a hunter group tracking an elephant herd in a private wildlife area in Namibia. One of the elephants is reported to have charged before the men could shoot, and that’s when the tragedy happened.
Relatives have been informed of the man’s death. It is known that Monzalvez had an official permit to hunt.
Still, the Internet’s reaction has been overwhelmingly negative, with many people expressing their disgust with the big game hunting. It is also worth noting it was not the first time a hunter was killed this year.

Load More Replies...The people who defend him come up with the worst excuses. Yes, he had a hunting permit but he killed an elephant. An elephant, not a deer or a boar. And even though he paid a lot of money for it... that doesn't make it right to shoot an endangered species.
He acquired a hunting permit specifically for that elephant I think. I'm not sure why it was allowed; I did think that African elephants were endangered. Maybe it was corruption. However maybe it's like with deer: sometimes with deer, an old strong male will prevent younger males from breeding, but not be able to effectively breed anymore himself. Then it becomes better for the species' continuation and the strenth of the genetics to take out the older male. Don't know much about elephants so just guessing, though.

I can feel no sympathy for a killer of animals. There has to be something fundamentally wrong with someone who even entertains the idea that this is sport. Nature is very good at natural selection and she needs no help from murderers. The fact that he paid a lot of money to hunt has no bearing the this abhorrent obsession that egotistical rich folk have with aiming a gun at an innocent animal for no other reason than they can and then brag about it. He got what he deserved.
Whenever an animal is murdered for fun, a human would face the same consequence to be killed by an animal to balance the laws of nature. There is one huge difference though, the human did it for fun yet the animal did it in defence of the herd and any babies in the herd. 💕🐘😇
People who get kicks out of killing animals for sport have mental issues
Telescopic sights, technologically designed rifles...jeeps Land Rovers......there is no sport in this archaic practice...there is no hunting story to be told that isn't embarrassing. To kill a majestic beast just standing there takes no talent, no courage...just money and the runts who have it.
Seems there was a fair story this time. Scopes, Jeeps, and rifles didn't really work. Was it stupidity, dumb luck, or dumb hunter?

And what really bugs me are the people saying that we're hypocrites for saying we value life and then "celebrate" his death. Well the thing is, if he was an actual innocent person minding his own business and exploring the wonders of Africa and got trampled, THEN we would feel sorry for him. But instead, he was a murderer who took pleasure in killing innocent creatures. I'm sorry but if someone kills for fun with no remorse, then their life really doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Well, the odds were stacked heavily against that elephant and he still came out victorious. Kudos to you, Mr. elephant.
Good riddance. Shame there's not a hell for him to rot in. I hope it was painful.

there is for sure 2 sides to this argument. killing for sport is not a worth while venture. and if it was allowed and paid for it should of been fine to do whatever he wants. but at the same rate to these, he took the risk on himself. if he cared about the area and animals, he should have just donated the money. he was out for the thrill to kill something bigger and stronger than himself. and he took a gamble and paid with his life as well as money. The problem we are facing is as a species(humankind) we shouldn't find hunting for pure sport acceptable. any loss of life is tragic. but he knew what he was doing so i can't feel bad for him. he made the choice to take a life but it didn't go his way.we feel bad for the elephant because they have no say in this mess of hunting, living, dying. they are always just trying to survive. choices were made, we need to make better ones .
If I could believe that the full amount of the money paid for the hunting license actually went to conservation efforts, then I might not feel so bad for the elephant, but this is never the case. The fat cat politician got most of the money
Fat cat politicians who allow the permits AND the white owners of the game reserves - these are the people benefiting the most. Even if 100% of the fees went to conservation, it is still wrong and indefensible. These horrible excuses for human beings can easily donate cash directly to conservation causes if that was their actual interest - which all it is not.

I love elephants and I can not stand it when I read supportive comments for hunting. No animals should live in fear and the are so many beautiful wild animals on the endangered list that it both saddens and sickens me to think anyone would consider this a sport. That's what you call karma. Well done elephant for killing him. We don't need people like that, hunting just for fun.
I do not agree with trophy hunting...it is taking the best out of the gene pool for one thing and if you aren't at raving then why is it such a 'sport' to kill an innocent animals? Just because you can? There is far to much waste in this world and hunting for any reason except for food is ridiculous in this day and age...killing just to be killing doesn't sound like a good thing to me. Yeah KARMA is GOOD!!!

Perhaps he should have spent his money elsewhere. With no one/ no animal losing its life- on the day he died he made a conscious decision to end an animals life. What gave him that idea we will never know but life's a lottery and this day he lost the gamble- good riddance the world does not need killers such as him
Terrible responses from people who support hunting and the hunter who died. They expect us to care about one human being out of over 7 billion of us who pollute and consent to deforestation without ever having to see it happen. How many elephants are out there now? Why should we care about someone who enjoys killing animals? Aren't these the sick people? I feel quite happy when a hunter gets killed.
So he had a permit to hunt but, it was a PRIVATE reserve the money goes to the owner of that reserve not to the poor or conservation programs so don't be fooled, it is purely for profit.😡😡😡😡
great work,,,this bull elephant deserves a heros medal,,,some foreigner coming to kill my heritage...pays hundreds of thousands of dollars bounty to kill my heritage...

Wow this makes me so happy. People who are saying the money helps conservation, if no-one was shooting these poor animals in the first place there wouldn't be any need to conserve them. I hate mankind anyway and this just makes me hate humans even more than i do. Karma put a big, grey foot up this guys a*s and i am so happy for the elephant.
People who support hunters have terrible comebacks and excuses. "He paid good money for this and that and permit and how dare you say such a thing" are pointless. Did the Elephant give permission for anyone to sell a permit to murder her? NOT. Love to see Justice served against the wicked. No one owns this beautiful creature, nor has the right to murder her. Glad one less piece of scum is off the earth.
It's been proven by several studies that little to none of the fees from the so-called 'legal hunts' ever goes to either the people of the area orthe conservation of that species (or any other.) I can't understand hunting for anything other than using the whole animal: meat, hide, bone and sinew, to feed, clothe and support your family. And very few of us need to do that any longer!
The real tragedy here is that these beautiful elephants are being hunted by so called humans who pay big money for what?? killing innocent animals who have every right to live their lives free from humans...
Hunting big game is for idiots. If someone was able to shoot a fly/mosquito with a rifle, I'd be impressed. "Hey, I shot this animal that's the size of a caravan' doesn't impress...

Good riddance to a pathetic human. Yes humans as a species have degraded their environment to an extreme and when one dies in the justified way to its actions, then it is a good thing. #endangeredspecieshuntershavenovalue
I have no problems with skilled hunters who make a clean kill and then eat the animal. It's no different from me buying my steak in the supermarket. But killing just for sport is wrong. As is fishing up fish, taking a picture and chucking the wounded fish back in the water. Eat it, or leave it in peace.
I really don't see anything 'tragic'' about him being killed by his 'prey'.
Man, this is F##ked up. Yes, the hunter was shooting it for sport, and that was wrong. But, to go around ad say that the hunter DESERVED to die, is just as bad as being the hunter, you are killing, and there is no excuse for it. What we should be feeling is mourn for the hunter for how foolish he was about life. I feel sorry for all the people that think the hunters life was a waste. Never judge someone untill you know what they are really like.
Elephants are so beautiful and loving...but don't mess with mama. They are beautiful creatures. Tired of seeing the greed for money in these east african coubtries allowing hunting for the sake of money. I saw it first hand in kenya, and Tanzania. It pissed me off. Kenya allowed it and in return they will built them roads. Mostly chinese...however there were other chinese also that were fighting against this knowing that their old beliefs that a certain part of the abinal will create miracles will magically make you horny or stronger or better
I hope he is is burning in hell now. Killing innocent animal for sport is disgusting!
Paying money for a permit to hunt = Good as long as money goes toward conservation. Hmmmm so it's totally fine if I pay to kick a few kids around as long as my money goes toward building schools for them? =O
Reality is he knew what he was getting into so no, I don't feel bad that he died. He partook in nature's survival of the fittest and lost. No one made him do that. I can't say anything about whether or not it should be ok to give out hunting permits to hunters in these ares. That would be western arrogance, to think I know better than the people who live there locally. I do think it's fine to be against hunting for sport in general, as a moral issue. I normally only support hunting for food or population control. And I do hope all these karma people aren't meat eaters. There's a reason that hindu's are often vegetarian... but then again most people throwing that word around will not understand what it implies.
Are you really of the opinion he would have eaten that elephant? I think 'karma' is quite appropriately used here.
Load More Replies...I agree that big game hunting is wrong and think karma got him. However, no one deserves to die over it.
I am ambivalent in this circumstance. Hunting itself is pitting man against beast to see how successful one will be. There is no gaurantee of who if any will walk away. In such circumatnces it is better for the country as a whole, both human and animal, to host a hunt than to pursue poachers. An operation that is draining manpower, resources, and government funds.
I hate hunting and all when I was in elementary school I used to scream at people for killing bugs but now I have changed. All though hunting animals especially endangered ones is fricked up this person was 46 when he died and his family is probably devastated and we should NOT make fun of someones death. I hope people who hunt endangered species see this as a warning and stop what they are doing and I hope his family is doing better now.
I know this is radical and not to be taken seriously. BUT if these guys (and girls!) want to show what skilled hunters they are, and how brave they are, I say let's put two of them in a jungle-type arena, say 5 square miles. The one that comes out ALIVE, is declared the WINNER and can cut the loser's head off and have it mounted! Now, THAT would be a FAIR CONTEST! Instead of tracking a defenseless animal with a ten-thousand-dollar rifle, a three-hundred dollar bullet, a CREW of guides that will corner the animal and line up the shot so these GREAT WHITE HUNTERS can EXECUTE it! We could take bets with all profits going to wildlife conservation! How's that for an idea?
Humans are the only animal in the f*****g planet that hunt for the f**k of it...and we are supposed to be the racional ones
I'm on both the elephant and the hunter's side. He paid for that permit so technically, going by legal terms, he had every right to hunt down elephants. But at the same time, animals are amazing creatures and I couldn't imagine ANYONE who'd willingly shoot an animal just for the fun and excitement of it. That said, no I do not think that man deserved to die. At the same time, I despise his motives of hunting.
As an African I know culling is legal and does more good for the land and animals than most people expect
This thing I don't understand... who gives such permits to people with money to kill for a game? The animals are nobody's property... Such a bog shame. I am sooooo happy that person got crushed. Hope all of them perish the same way!
Lol most of the people defending the hunter talk more about the money than him.
I don't have a "side" on this. If he got a permit then he has the right to hunt. But hunting elephants is not ok either. No idea why this was allowed. But that doesn't mean he deserves to die. Don't you think it's rude to say he deserved to die? He has family and friends, they are probably heart broken.
It's the same feeling you get when watching a murderer get the chair. Sure he probably has family who might feel sad for him etc but you're happy to see him dead. Unless you treat animals as being insignificant then yeah I guess you'd be more sad than happy.
Load More Replies...How about ALL life being precious including cows, chickens and pigs etc. As far as I'm concerned, good riddance buddy !
Yeah never suggest that the chicken these 'karma is a b***h' people have on their plates is worth as much as an African elephant. It messes too much with their sense of scarcity and has this inherent expectation that people shouldn't be hypocritical. And then you can expect the pitch forks... :p

I know that it's terrible that he killed an elephant but how are people celebrating that someone died! Why are people saying he deserved it!
Erm. Because... he does? He set out to kill something for sport, knowing the risks, and lost. It's exactly what he signed up for.
Load More Replies...I don't condemn hunting endangered animals, but I think it is important to note here the huge income coming from hunting tourism in these areas. In some places, allowing hunters to take down one animal can provide funds to protect others. It's definitely not a win-win situation, but we need to be a little more aware of the reality faced by people in these parts of the world. If all the people shaming that guy (who died btw, so show a bit of respect to the family at least) gave $50 to organisations fighting to protect those animals it would be a huge step towards the end of this barbaric practice.
First, this was a private preserve. The 'huge income' goes only to the owner. Second, studies have proven that even in government approved hunts, no income, or extremely little, goes toward the people of the region: it stays in the big cities with the corrupt politicians. So where is the 'win' in that? I can't feel sorry for his family. They knew what he did for fun. I feel far sorrier for the locals who could have made a good living from people who come over and over to see live animals. Unlike kill-camps, people return sometimes year after year to see the animals as they grow through their lives. That way, the local farmers can sell their produce to the safari camps, as well as having family members be able to work there for a fair wage. How often can that same elephant be shot?
Load More Replies...Some people's ignorance just hurts! When are the thick headed people in this world gonna catch on that a large part of conservation is regulating the population?! Ask any wildlife officer! That's why they have bag limits, regulations, etc.
Yeah, some people's ignorance DOES hurt. When do you stop hunting--when the population is so small it can no longer viably breed? When the gene pool that is left cannot supply diversity and the first big disease wipes out the remaining population? That's what you're defending here. They should have been 'regulating' the elephant population since the 1700s. "Ask any wildlife officer."

Load More Replies...They did a bit on this with 'Adam ruins everything' which gives an interesting perspective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQh-f1rBjx4 Still, IMO, it seems to take a special kind of D-bag to want to kill animals for sport, but luckily their money goes to good use.
Load More Replies...ily elephant the hunter is...i mean...was a real idiot and he totally deserved 2 die
Why do these people need to kill? I think they have either got small penises and this is the way to empower themselves, or females like that cheer leader because they are stupid, air headed, lousy sluts. IMHO
Since when did we, as humans, become judges over whether a life form deserves to live or die.
Amy i get what you are sayng but usually an elephant sneak around the house, or have a hundred thousand babies that may or may not be a danger to health.when a man hunta for sport he probably knows the risks and still decides to take them.
