Edible Six-Pack Rings Feed Sea Creatures Instead Of Killing Them
If ever you needed a reason to grab a beer and celebrate, this is it. But only if you grab a beer brewed by Saltwater Brewery, because they’re the guys behind this brilliant new idea.
They’ve managed to develop six-pack rings that are 100% biodegradable. That’s pretty cool already, but the best part is that they’re also totally edible! According to the video below, Americans drank 6.3 billion gallons of beer last year, and 50% of that was from cans. Most of the plastic six-pack rings used end up in the ocean where they pose a devastating threat to marine life and birds. So the craft beer company from Delray Beach, Florida decided to ‘re-invent the loop’ by making their six-pack rings not only safe for wildlife but delicious as well! They’re made from beer by-products like barley and wheat and even humans can snack on them while relaxing with a cold one (although we wouldn’t recommend it). We’ll drink to that!

Absolutely love this idea. Whenever I come across one of these (the plastic kind) or elastic bands I always pick them up and get rid of them safely.
me too when ever i find one i pull out my pocket knife and cut all the loops then throw it in a trash bin, or if none are around pocket it until i find one.

But it let me highly sceptical about the "edible" part...marine ecosystems receive already A LOT of organic matter from the continent (continental waters for example). It would be enough if it was biodegradable and usable in your compost...and of course instruct people to not throw everything everywhere!
We've been trying to get people to "not throw everything everywhere" for a long time now. It's a pipe dream. My stepfather used the throw trash on the ground deliberately because he believed he was "creating jobs and people need jobs". Some people just plain don't care. For whatever reason, trash is going to happen. I'm all for making that trash the best it can be for the environment.

Would love to see ALL drink makers adopt this practice! Instead of making it mandatory, how about tax breaks? Companies like those more! ;)
A great idea IF the rest of the beer companies and soft drink companies adopt it, and IF we can get the existing trash cleaned up first. Otherwise the wildlife who sample the new type will be confused into trying to snack on the existing plastic garbage and more deaths will occur.

first off, what sea creature has barley and wheat in their diet? Secondly, if for a human ' we don't recommend it' than i'm not alright with this, Should it not All be Hemp plastic? can hemp harm Anything?!

Awesome initiative, but why throw it in the ocean in the first place?
If the drunken idle bastards were to take their s**t home with them and put it in the waste bins non of this would happen.
This is a great idea, they should encourage all the companies that do six packs to use these. I always cut the rings up and put them in trash.

We are drinking beer from glass bottles. Glass bottles are environmentally friendly and refilled with beer. Czech Republic consumed the highest amount of beer per head with 143 litres and a national total of 1.5 billion litres from 2013 to 2014, according to data released from Euromonitor International.
