Tiny Wind & Solar Powered Home Lets You Live Off The Grid Anywhere In The World
Ecocapsules, designed by Bratislava-based Nice Architects, promise to let anyone live off the grid for up to a year. Each unit is equipped with solar panels, a retractable wind-turbine, and a design that captures rain water. Inside, you’ll find a kitchenette with running water, a flushing toilet, and hot shower.
The Ecocapsule “is suitable for a wide range of applications,” write the designers, such as an “independent research station or a tourist lodge to an emergency housing or a humanitarian-action unit.”
Those interested in buying one will be able to pre-order at the end of 2015, with delivery in the first half of 2016. A display unit will be show during the Pioneers festival in Vienna on the 28th-29th of May.

“With the capsule in tow you can exceed the normal range of an electric car, stay somewhere for the night, and charge 1/4 quarter of the battery. This is enough to reach the nearest supercharger”
A built-in kitchenette with running water, flushing toilet and hot shower are all included
“The first design used multistage water recycling technology. Now we simplified the system and replaced the flushing toilet with composting. We are still searching for an ultimate solution”
The walls are insulated to ensure maximum energy savings and maintain comfort
The units could be used as research stations, emergency housing, or a humanitarian-action unit

And at 1500-2700 Euros for shipping, we can safely assume that each Eurocapsule will cost about 150-270,000 Euros, and will be available to folks who have a quarter of a million to throw away on a cute little mobile home. So, yeah, not a place for the poor, despite being "eco friendly" and capable of being "emergency shelter".

Even with all the views on the expense involved etc.. I LOVE the idea,,its HIGH TIME we humans started thinking about ecohomes & using a much smaller footprint in terms of use of space & invading the planet with massive amounts of buildings & using up natures "living" areas..i say HURRH for these designers & lets move forward with making them feasible for all to have!
I think we ought to celebrate the creativity and the effort of the inventors of the capsule. I hope someday it is available to everyone.

An old caravan is much cheaper and is even towable not like that 'snail'. Actually that's a good name for it, The S Snail.lol.
A 9744 Watt Hour battery capacity alone costs about $8,000-$10,000 dollars just for the battery or batteries. So the unit probably is considerably more. A tiny home at $100 per sq. foot x their 86 sq. ft. setup should not cost more than $10,000, the battery alone already costs about that so as the Stooges say "We shall see but we shall see".
Actually for two Grand delivery they can drop out off at the top of that gorgeous mountain in the picture lol. It's basically a fancy caravan

This is amazing and so self sufficient. I would buy one of these without question if I knew for sure how much they were, and where I could put it. If it is reasonably priced. I along with so many others are seeking something like this , but cannot afford an outrageous amount, we are hardworking people, who earn every penny and would love to own something like this, we are not looking for a handout but a fair and reasonable price would just be wonderful. We could all benefit from something like this.. I just love it, and want one so badly.
no mention of shipping i n the FAQ and price will announced end of this year. it weighs 1500lbs so not going to cost $5.99 for shipping. just common sense
Sorry, you got the weight wrong. It is 1500 kilo grams which is over 3,000 lbs. Remember in Europe they measure things differently to confuse us.

Think I need to find out more about the systems that support this, solar cells, water treatment and so on. Must be a map of the UK that can be mapped onto self-sufficiency figures to show where it is viable and where it is not. ?

You must be very well to do in order to own a tiny house or a unit like this. Faux rich that a tiny house should cost over fifty thousand dollars. Way more in most cases. Just keep overpopulating, it will take care of itself.
You can't use them "anyplace". Many cities and counties have laws against overnight sleeping in anything other than a regular house, motel, hotel or approved RV park. This includes your own property. So at $30 a night you'll be fine...
Laws can be and often are changed to allow for exceptions.

The shipping costs are pretty normal for a container on a ship. It's not that they charge it... the shipping company charges it. You're free to pick your own shipping company. For Europe prices will be lower as the capsules can be shipped by road transport.
If they cost 35 thousand then they are not going to be used for emergency's like hurricane relief or anything. they will sell a few to very rich people who want one of everything and that will be it.
How do they supply water? I can guess power is from solar pannel, yet couldn't figure out where is water coming from

I see many problems here - how to get drinking water there and what to do with wastewater? Other one is whether the solar panels + wind turbine can provide enough energy. And last - I can imagine many problems in winter/rainy weather - coming with wet clothes and shoes covered with mud directly into the main room - no hall there. The same on the beach - in windy weather you would probably have sand everywhere.
