High school biology doesn't teach guys how to understand women. But it at least gives them an idea of how their bodies work. Pass that and you won't infuriate your girlfriend by telling her to "keep it in" when she asks you to buy her some tampons. Recently, Twitter user @brownandbella asked women to share the most ridiculous things they've heard men say about "sex, reproductive health, menstruation, etc" and BOY did they deliver! As of this article, the thread already has nearly 20K upvotes and over 3.5K comments, many of which will make you wonder if men are really that stupid or are they just being dicks. Maybe the first, maybe the latter, maybe a bit of both.

Almost a quarter of men have admitted that they have "no idea" what a pelvic floor is or what it is supposed to do. About 1 in 20 believe it's just another name for your pelvis and some even think it's a dance move. A new study has confirmed that men really are clueless when it comes to their female partner's body.

The study, released by pelvic floor experts INNOVO, found that nearly 4 in 10 men don't feel comfortable talking to women about it, too. 4 in 10 men also admit they have no understanding about the health issues their wife or girlfriend faces and are stumped when it comes to the length of their period.

There should be mandatory sex-ed for everyone, that we wouldn't be oblivious for specifics of each gender

The same magical 4 in 10 men don't feel comfortable talking to women about intimate health issues and as a result, more than a third try to avoid all conversations with their partner about subjects such as periods, intimate screening tests, and even sex.

"Intimate health issues can be a difficult subject for many to discuss," Jane Wake, women's health and fitness expert, said. "'It may be funny to think men have no idea what a pelvic floor is or does, but it's a subject which needs to be taken seriously – especially as men also have a pelvic floor and can suffer the same problems as women."

Jane added that both men and women find it embarrassing to discuss their private health concerns with someone of the opposite sex, even if it is their own partner, but that being as open as possible with each other is the best way to gradually break down the taboo.

When I was about 14, over 20 years ago, I was reading the problem page in a teen magazine. A girl had written a letter, in a total panic, because her periods weren't blue. She thought she had some terrible disease.

And if we look at it from a religious point of view, didn't Jesus atone for those sins by dying on the cross, so girls nowadays wouldn't have to worry about "the sins of Eve" and s**t like that?

My dad called me a disappointment for going on birth control because I was having extreme period cramps that would have me making cots in the bathroom with a heating pad, mom would call me out of school for the whole week (I was a top student). Mom told me not to say anything to him, but he found out because I let it slip I was running to the pharmacy to pick it up. He went to mom and was like "she won't be able to have babies and studies show it makes women more promiscuous" and moms like "when was that study?" and he said "20 years ago". He said I was a disappointment, and that I should have consulted him before starting. One of the many reasons I don't have a relationship with him.

Not only is it awful that so many people still seem to subscribe to the "pay for Eve's sins" rhetoric based on a book, but the fact that a father is totally okay with his own daughter being in excruciating pain in order to "atone" is arguably a form of child abuse.

Paying for Eve's sin is just when you are in labor during birthing your baby. That was also in the Old Testament and most Chritians don't go by its laws since Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins and make us white as snow. When you accept Jesus as your Savior your sins are gone from that moment on. Tell your father that. I never knew when I would have a period. Some would last 6 weeks and I'd bleed heavily and cramp the whole time. The next time may happen in a couple of weeks or 3 months and I'd only spot a little. I don't know how my body knew when to get pregnant but it did. I too took birth control pills after my first baby to straighten out my periods and it was great. Better yet was having a hysterectomy at 26 and never having a period again!

Seems like the Bible (or Church) has guided a lot of people to really not understand how women work. Bringing the whole "you deserve it because of the sins of Eve" is so manipulative and degrading. No wonder people are leaving the Church in droves. This sort of thing is just so repulsive.

Actually, if you have extreme period pain, you should see your doctor to find out what's going on. Sure, we have bad cramps from our periods sometimes. But if it's extreme pain every time you have your period, something more could be going on.

Poor sex Ed, and a mother intimidated by his father, and didn’t explain sex to him at all, nor did his dad... grandfather and then her dad, poorly educated. And likely, for a long time. Bully men all the way back, and suppressed the moms from saying anything to sons or daughters... very sad!
