The brain is a truly fantastic thing. The same organ that’s capable of controlling a myriad of passive as well as active bodily functions, comprehending elaborately complex concepts, and providing a unique kind of sentience is also the organ that often slips us a dumb idea. Or two. OK, much more.

But, hey, not all ideas are dumb, despite you thinking so. A curious Twitter user by the name of Bijan asked the internet what’s the dumbest idea people ever had, but are nevertheless convinced it’d still make the world a better place for all.

I also think they should live on an "average" wage for a year or two so they understand what the average person/family have to go through.

Legalize weed across the states, tax it, and use that money to repair the roads. Call it Operation Pothole.

Well in Australia it is illegal to ask a breastfeeding mother to leave or move elsewhere etc. Doesn't matter if she is feeding in the middle of a shopping centre, a restaurant etc. From my observations, it seems that other women are the ones that complain about breastfeeding in public, a lot more than men do.

This one makes me so sad, especially because of how women and PoC are so much more routinely dismissed, leading to sometimes dire consequences.

That should be acceptable. HOWEVER, it should go both ways. I am tried of being polite while a cashier ignores me and gossips with a coworker or cops an attitude.

I saw a report on some show where they were actually testing the viability of this. In Greenland, IIRC.

Yeah I saw something on TV where they were painting mountain white to reflect the sun & slow the seasonal melting of ice on a mountain so that the trickle down to the village was sustained year round rather than in a flood. China I think.

Remember Los Angeles dumped 96 million balls into the reservoir in order to "keep water from evaporating." That was 2015 https://www.sciencealert.com/la-reservoir-shade-balls-manufacture-use-more-water-than-they-saved

I thought that they were stop the sunlight creating a reaction with bromine that leeches bromate into the water? Maybe that was a different reservoir. They might still save more water though, they do have a decent lifespan and are fully recyclable.

And safe for animals white "paint" on places that used to have ice and snow. Large white artificial ice shelves too

I think the melting water would just melt more of the snow if you did that. No offense, of course

They fill reservoirs with black plastic balls to block sunlight, control algae and prevent water evaporation. Similar concept

What about large floating reflective platforms in the attic ocean to help reflect the heat where icebergs used to be? That would help combat the heating of the ocean as well

Problem is, the reflected sun would still heat the world, and snow/ice is kind of reflective anyway. You need something that absorb and store it to use it for something useful.

Actually, reflective or lighter surfaces have higher albedos, which is how much light is reflected off of a surface. Surfaces with higher albedos are preferable to those with lower albedos because lower albedos absorb light and heat, therefore trapping it and contributing to climate change. This is actually an interesting loop, because as glaciers melt due to climate change, the albedo in that area decreases, which means the earth gets warmer, which means more snow/ice/glaciers melt. Obviously this isn’t the only thing contributing to climate change, but it is a factor. If you’re interested in how we can help increase albedo in your area to help against climate change, you can artificially increase albedo by painting rooftops, roads, sidewalks, etc. White.

It's certainly not that simple and the US isn't evenly split. Also many "red states" are only red because those in power are messing with election laws so the political leaning of the masses might be different. There are also plenty of conservatives in "blue states"
