Woman Crashes Into Drunk Driver’s Car, Preventing A Couple With Baby From Being Hit
Recently, a heartstopping video showing a couple and their baby being just seconds away from death went viral. Shared by The Phoenix Police Department, the footage shows the miraculous escape the family made when one woman blocked the drunk driver’s car from running them over. The chilling crash took place around 10 p.m. and was captured by the traffic camera.

A woman named Shannon Vivar was recently hailed a hero after preventing a drunk driver from hitting pedestrians
The woman who happened to be in the right place at the right time is 27-year-old Shannon Vivar. That night, Shannon, her mother Shirley, and Shannon’s 3-year-old child were driving back home from Walmart, when suddenly Shirley screamed in shock. The woman noticed a Jeep running a red light and heading towards a couple with a stroller. The only thing that prevented a tragedy from happening that night, was Shannon who drove right into the Jeep, stopping it from hitting the pedestrians. “I don’t remember if I sped up or pushed the brake, but once I got hit, I was lost,” she said.
It was a close call for the family, but they were not harmed in any way and managed to run away after the collision. However, Shannon wasn’t so lucky. The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and got her car damaged.
Right after the crash, the suspected Jeep’s drunk driver Ernesto Otanez Oveso attempted to flee the scene and threatened to stab the witnesses who were trying to stop him. According to the police, he is currently under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and has also been charged with aggravated assault, being a prohibited possessor of a firearm, and four warrants.
While Shannon saved the day, the woman does not consider herself to be a hero. “Even though it wasn’t my intention to, the way I see it was, it was meant to happen that way,” she said. However, the situation did not come without a cost, as the car crash put her in debt. Her husband created a GoFundMe campaign in hopes that people will help them pay off the expenses caused by the incident.

Share on FacebookLet's think about it this way...if that driver decided to take a different road that night, the family would have been dead. I'm glad she was there.
That reasoning doesn't go very far. Another car could have been there at that moment. If there were no pedestrians this would not have been newsworthy. Actually still isn't, because there is no heroism. Just coincidence.
Load More Replies...What about the other cars going infront of the people walking? Aren't they supposed to stop too? Thank God, nobody got seriously injured or killed.
Let's just mention the fact that she had a 3 year old in her car when she crashed...
I read this and cried. A drunk mowed down my brother and 5 of his friends. My brother and two other boys died. The other three will never ever be the same, physically and mentally. Even though she had her small child and mother in the car with her and yet, she still intervened and saved that family. NO MATTER the timing, it's what you do when you're in that place and time that matters.
My heart broke reading this. I can’t even imagine the pain your family and the survivors have faced. A bond between siblings is so precious and I want so badly for this tragedy to never have happened. Drunk driving is never okay.
Load More Replies...What c**p...she just happened to hit the Jeep in a very fortuitous accident.
She clearly speeds up in the last few seconds, though.
Load More Replies...Who cares whether it was an accident or not? The most important thing is that a child's life and the lives of those young parents were saved! And three lives werent lost and two families will continue to grow and bond as one instead of mourning over what could have been a tragic loss
So, "lady involved in accident that accidently saved people crossing the street hailed a hero" ?
NO this wasn't "Heroics", I've seen a guy PURPOSELY ram a speeding vehicle to save a pedestrians life. She was just in the right place at the right time. If she had seen it about to happen and made quick thinking to take out the jeep before it could hit those people than THAT would be considered heroic. Her vehicle slamming into him because he ran a red light fast enough to set off the traffic camera could have went bad as well
So I am going to be "that person" that mentions crossing the street at 10pm while cars are turning into your cross way is probably not the best idea....ever.
I'm confused. Why is someone crossing the road when there are cars turning left right in front of them? Were those cars running red lights too, or should that lady not be out in the street?
In Arizona, you can turn left on a “regular” green light (as opposed to just a green arrow) provided it’s safe to do so and there isn’t anything explicitly telling you not to.
Load More Replies...It was all pure luck. I had something similar happen when I was younger. I was just turning left minding my own when outta nowhere a drunk hit me and if I hadn't been there when he ran that stop sign. He would have most likely hit the couple of younger kids crossing the street across where he was going to be going at 35mph+. I was mad about my car but when I realized the little kids (10-15 idk) were there. I wasn't too mad then because I realized they coulda died or been seriously injured.
It was not intentionally done to save the family...the car that hit the drunk driver vehicle was going straight through on a green light and just coincidence that they met at such a fate. And if you look closely the family was actually crossing while the they had a red don't walk sign. So rightfully they were not obeying the traffic laws.
Drunk driving through red light. Almost killing a family. Fleeing the scene. Threatening to stab the witnesses who were trying to stop him. I truly believe that this miserable fail of evolution should never again be allowed to walk freely among us.
From the footage it seems that woman had the right of way while the SUV driver tried to jump red light and caused the accident. How is it that SHE was the one to end up in debt? Is this one of the "American wonders"?
I see a parent endangering her children by trying to cross a street when not having the right of way. Then two cars wrecking. No miracle.
Yeah, the way this whole thing is worded, it makes it sounds like she hit the drunk driver on purpose. But I agree with a lot of folks here: It just looks like a fortunate (for the pedestrians) set of circumstances--pedestrians or no, that drunk driver was gonna hit her.
In CA, every one of those cars that turned while the pedestrians were in the crosswalk would have gotten a ticket.
Now she needs to pay off this car and get another. Either the drunk's insurance or hers should cover it. And yes, however it happened it was perfect timing.
Now I am confused. Why is everybody preoccupied with whether it was intentional or not and nobody says anything about Driving Under The F&*^%#g Influence, Driving While Intoxicated, Drunk Driving or however else one could put it? Weird fact: The world's four worst countries for Drunk Driving are all English speaking countries: South Africa, Canada, the USA, and Australia. Could this have something to do with the greater impact of advertising in English, or is it cultural? https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2016/08/11/the-worst-countries-in-the-world-for-drunk-driving-infographic/#40569c9f2f5c

I think the drunk ran a red lightning and the pedestrians were jaywalking while drivers turned left.

It's not the point of the story but I noticed a lot of American stories end up with "they created a GoFundMe campaign to help with ...". That's sad.
Had the woman used a crosswalk, like she should have, her and the baby would be dead right now.
What are you talking about? The woman and the baby *are* using a crosswalk. The only other woman in the story was in her vehicle. And how would them walking elsewhere cause them to be dead?
