Sure, our society has tremendously evolved for the better during the last, say, 100 years, but a long journey is still ahead, and the vast array of double standards that still divide people to this day highlight this perfectly.
The double standard definition states that it is a rule or a principle applied to different people or groups. The most prominent case of double standard examples to this day come from gender equality. What's usually okay for men, is not acceptable when done by women. Starting with beach attire and ending with lady bosses, society finds unnecessary ways to chime in about what's wrong and what's right.

Well, it also depends on whether they've only ever seen you with makeup on. People will notice if your face changes completely suddenly... like when you always wears large glasses and suddenly take them off and people will be wondering if your face always looked like that.

Some guy at work was once talking about how he thought that ALL women should use makeup and do their hair and whatever for work/ at home/going out/... I have really really dark circles under my eyes. They are hereditary and no matter how much sleep or cool packs I use they don't fade away. And I look rather pale as well. So without my eyeliner and blush I literally will have 5 people ask whether I'm sick, feeling well or is I get enough sleep. It's annoying to the point where I snap at people when they say it.

I think the issue is that makeup damages the skin. So if someone wears it all the time, they look bad without it. But someone who never wears it looks fine
Sure, wear and look how you want and all. However people that put on intense amounts of makeup to look "sexy" and "attractive", "cool", "better" or whatever are annoying. The only time they say that is if the woman is usually wearing make-up. Imagine seeing someone's face every day and it's got a blush, if it's good make-up it's so seemless that most people don't even notice until they don't wear it, so of course a lack of color will make people, who are well meaning, worried. If this same person never wore make-up they wouldn't say that.

Men think of makeup as all the eye makeup, blush, lipstick. That is what they mean. Natural looking makeup, they don't mention (since they think that's how you normally look). If you skip makeup completely, you end up looking sick/tired. So when they say that, they just mean, you need to look fancy.
this is misleading, if the guy is used to seeing the woman in makeup and makes the comment about "" not needing makeup, you`re so pretty"", he is trying to be nice and complement the women...and when he see the women for first time without makeup..she might have been tired or sick and just not feel like putting makeup on...
This is definitely not just a "man" thing...we put the same pressure on ourselves (and other women). Otherwise there wouldn't be a million tutorials about how to get a "natural looking" made up face where 176204 products are used.
Maybe if you start wearing less make up, people will have a real notion what your face looks like without it...

I don't even own makeup... Nobody really comments on it, except the rare occasions when one of the guys at work asks me if I put on lipstick, lip gloss or something to make my skin glow... Other days they ask me if I got a good night sleep from the bags... then if my answer is no, they suggest I lock the inventory door behind me and take a nap and they'll cover for me (I haven't taken them up on it). I consider makeup to be a hassle and unnecessary... Plus I was once told by someone that I might have durable and healthy skin because it can breathe and my pores aren't clogged with chemicals.

We were playing around, play fighting when I kicked my husband in the balls. It wasn't on purpose and I instantly felt horrible as he spent about 5 minutes in pain on the floor. The worst he got me was an elbow to the nose that caused a nose bleed, and one where he slammed my back into the thermostat. Literally last week my husband asked "Why don't we wrestle anymore" and all that flashed through my head. I don't like the idea of women hitting men any more than a man hitting a woman. Another double standard was in the news recently of Michelle Carter who convinced her 18 year old boyfriend to commit suicide in a quest for sympathetic attention from friends, family and the general public, face jail time. Her texts to him were exposed and she was facing a maximum of 20 years. But it was dropped to only 2 1/2 years, 15 months jail 15 months probation. You can find the transcript of the messages online. The sickest thing is not just what she was saying to the kid, but the fact she remained in a phone call to listen to him die. When it comes to the justice system, men have it far worse by a long shot. Therefore, I believed she should have served a much much higher sentence.

I only wish whoever compiled this knew what double standard meant. Many of these are just examples of different problems in different situations. Eg: skimpy armor on women is a double standard between men and women based only on gender. BUT Skinny woman with burger VS chubby woman with burger are different situations. Yes, as crazy as it sounds your physical shape relates to physical condition and what you can handle. Skinny guy can't lift car but Dwayne Johnson probably can, it's not double standard to notice that. Woman without child vs mother, 2 different arguments in 2 different situations. The lie of omission there is not accounting for the fact that there are also different people making the arguments.
The point of woman with vs without child is that women get judged and shamed no matter which choice they make, by strangers who know nothing about what factors went into that decision. You have no right to judge someone for choosing to be a parent or not. Just as the woman's doctor is the only person who should be telling her what to eat or not eat.

There are both men and women idiots in this world and problems with double standards are also suffered by men a lot. You should know #11, 21, 26 and 36 contradict #30. They contradict by fat shaming women when 30 is cheering them on for being with a thin man, which is b******t. I'm intrigued. All of these posts about body standards show either overweight women who are otherwise fashionable and well-kept or unfashionable women who still seem pretty well take care of. They're always so clean in every depiction. Meanwhile the boys complaining that women treat handsome men better than unattractive men are sporting greasy, unwashed, uncut hair, neckbeards, acne, chapped lips, they're dehydrated, oily, unkempt, underwashed, unshaved, wearing dirty clothes, and then unfashionable and sometimes overwight on TOP of all that but those last two are really unimportant compared to the rest of all that. Hygiene and cleanliness are WAY more important than a few pounds. That's why James Corden is cute af and these guys aren't. The bottom line is that if you don't take care of yourself you don't come off as someone who would ever be good at taking care of someone else. Before claiming its a weight or fashion thing, ask yourself if its a hygiene thing.
The one of the good looking guy getting away with a complement to the female worker while the ugly guy scares her, people may have easily come to that conclusion insinuated in the comic, but in reality the good looking guy already built up a rapport with her earlier and now appears to be getting away with saying things that she doesn't like other guys doing.

Loved this compilation. Sadly, I have been working in purely "men´s area" for many years and I must say that almost all comics in the article were true. The stereotypes are b***h. It was quite surprising that half of the people saying various c**p like above were women though and according to my experience I can say that the bigotry and stupidity is the same at both genders. I think I heard it all and I do not care anymore. Why punish yourself for someone else being an idiot? Better do not take it personally and just make fun of such people with an irresistible smile on your face. ;-)

Most of these are really good. But a few are really misogynistic. Our patriarchal society creates double standards that harm women the most, but that also harm men (such as society telling men that they shouldn't show any emotion or that they can't be as good parents as women). We do need to point out the harmful effects of these double standards on men. But even so, some of the comics here (especially the ones on the last page) depict women in a really vile, misogynistic way that is not at all in the spirit of the other comics in the series.

They leave out the very real factor of power and social hierarchy; they only work if society is already 100% equal, so that if a woman takes power, she's taking unfair advantage. What's your definition of power? I will agree context is almost non-existent. Most men don't feel threatened when a woman is self sufficient or even in control, in fact its quite attractive. Another double standard was in the news recently of Michelle Carter who convinced her 18 year old boyfriend to commit suicide in a quest for sympathetic attention from friends, family and the general public, face jail time. Her texts to him were exposed and she was facing a maximum of 20 years. But it was dropped to only 2 1/2 years, 15 months jail 15 months probation. You can find the transcript of the messages online. The sickest thing is not just what she was saying to the kid, but the fact she remained in a phone call to listen to him die. When it comes to the justice system, men have it far worse by a long shot. Therefore, I believed she should have served a much much higher sentence.

Eg: skimpy armor on women is a double standard between men and women based only on gender. BUT Skinny woman with burger VS chubby woman with burger are different situations. Yes, as crazy as it sounds your physical shape relates to physical condition and what you can handle. Skinny guy can't lift car but Dwayne Johnson probably can, it's not double standard to notice that. Woman without child vs mother, 2 different arguments in 2 different situations. The point of woman with vs without child is that women get judged and shamed no matter which choice they make, by strangers who know nothing about what factors went into that decision. There are both men and women idiots in this world and problems with double standards are also suffered by men a lot. I'm intrigued. All of these posts about body standards show either overweight women who are otherwise fashionable and well-kept or unfashionable women who still seem pretty well take care of. They're always so clean in every depiction. Meanwhile the boys complaining that women treat handsome men better than unattractive men are sporting greasy, unwashed, uncut hair, neckbeards, acne, chapped lips, they're dehydrated, oily, unkempt, underwashed, unshaved, wearing dirty clothes, and then unfashionable and sometimes overwight on TOP of all that but those last two are really unimportant compared to the rest of all that. Hygiene and cleanliness are WAY more important than a few pounds. That's why James Corden is cute af and these guys aren't. The stereotypes are b***h. It was quite surprising that half of the people saying various c**p like above were women though and according to my experience I can say that the bigotry and stupidity is the same at both genders. Most of these are really good. But a few are really misogynistic. Our patriarchal society creates double standards that harm women the most, but that also harm men (such as society telling men that they shouldn't show any emotion or that they can't be as good parents as women). We do need to point out the harmful effects of these double standards on men. But even so, some of the comics here (especially the ones on the last page) depict women in a really vile, misogynistic way that is not at all in the spirit of the other comics in the series.
