People Are Celebrating Trump’s Last Day In Office By Sharing These Savage Tweets (51 Pics)
After losing the 2020 election, President Donald Trump was so desperate to hold onto office, he instructed a mob to violently storm the U.S. Capitol. But this did him and the country more harm than good. The gruesome event took 5 lives, and Trump's own supporters have turned against him.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that President Donald Trump's approval rating stands at 34%, while his disapproval is at 61%. The same pollster had Trump at a 33% approve to 60% disapprove split last week. CNN/SSRS (34%), Gallup (34%), and the Pew Research Center (29%) also show Trump hitting his lowest low of support during his presidency—his final first-term approval rating looks to be the lowest on record dating back since scientific polling began.

With so little time left in his presidency, it looks like Trump's approval rating will end up below 40%. This is roughly a decline of more than 5 points since the election—a historically large number. In the past, the majority of presidents had actually gained ground during this period, and none have lost it as much as Trump has. It also means Trump should be the first president in the polling era to end his first term with an approval of below 40%, the first with a disapproval rating north of 50%, and the first with a negative net (approval - disapproval) rating.
Trump has even seen a decline among Republicans; his approval rating has dropped into the mid-high 70s in the average poll taken over the last week. It's usually in the high 80s to mid-90s, and it was 95% in the general election exit poll.
As CNN's Harry Enten points out, the question now is just how much damage has been done to Trump's political brand. After all, he's been impeached a second time. How many senators will vote to convict him? Will his brand end up so bad that he won't run in 2024?
As for President-Elect Joe Biden, he will take the oath of office on Wednesday. The celebrations, however, have been cut back because of the coronavirus pandemic, and Biden's inaugural committee has urged Americans not to travel to Washington, DC. The National Mall will also be closed to the general public because of security concerns related to the aforementioned storming of the US Capitol.
Usually, thousands of people gather on the Mall to watch the new president being sworn in but this year, the nation's capital will be full of National Guard troops. It will also be the first time in 150 years that the outgoing president will boycott his successor's inauguration. Still bitter, President Donald Trump is skipping the ceremony and many of the traditions that come with the transfer of power.
