For those of you who are unfamiliar with the fast-food industry, Domino’s Pizza is the top pizza brand in the UK and a significant participant in the Republic of Ireland.
According to the organization’s website, they’re “passionate about becoming the number one pizza company in the world and in every neighbourhood” – so it seems, judging by the fact that they were bold enough to introduce the Americanized pizza to the homeland of the dish.

A well-known American pizza restaurant that has approximately 15,000 branches in over 83 countries has recently announced its exit from Italy.
The pizza place started out as “DomiNick’s” when the founders, Tom and James, opened their very first store in Michigan.
Their plan was to deliver hot, freshly made pizzas in a timely fashion, and for the most part, it’s safe to say that they succeeded. But we’re all bound to fail at some point, right?

The court granted the company a 90-day protection period amid its bankruptcy filing in April 2022; the 90 days ended in July this year, and Domino’s pizza said its final farewell to Italy and its citizens.

It’s very understandable why Domino’s couldn’t put down their roots in Italy. It’s an ordinary fast-food chain that appeals to those who’re happy with eating processed foods; whereas, in Italy, their market relies on tradition where the money-making goal is the least of their concerns.
One of the Twitter users reacted to the news with a brilliant statement that summarizes what the majority of us feel about Domino’s Pizza’s poor attempt of winning over Italians: “today we are discussing entering mature, saturated markets with a crappy product.”

My surprise isn't that they are leaving, but it's taken 7 years for this to happen! Were they being kept afloat by tourists, and therefore the business failed because of Covid?
When I visited France I was surprised to see American fast food chains and asked someone who ate there. He said "mostly tourists". Given that you can get a better meal from the cafeteria in a Carrefour store, it's just baffling.

I live in the US, and don't eat Domino's There are better pizza chains and even better "Mom and Pop" pizza places here.
My Italian two-cents: In Italy big corporations (in the food field, obviously) are not popular, except McDonald's. We have so many establishments, family owned or not, that the market is simply saturated. The thing is that, except teenagers, Italian people like to eat well. Even in our early twenties, when we're broke, we like to go to a good pizzeria or a good restaurant, have a sit and eat good food. And if I prefer a home delivery I can order from my local pizzeria and get a much better pizza. Not to mention the fact that every pizzeria is different: different ingredients, different recipes... It's not a standard pizza, like a McDonald's hamburger that tastes the same from Milan to Palermo, you know...
They were in my city in Italy, apparently, and I didn't even know it. Waiting for Olive Garden to fail in Italy too now (JK, no Olive Garden in Italy so far)
Makes sense, if there were Olive Gardens in Italy, there would be no reason for Italians to come to the US to visit their American cousins (or so the commercials would have me believe).

Why would anyone want Dominos pizza when you're in the country that invented pizza.
What’s up with food chains selling food from other countries not being successful in the food’s country of origin?
Look up "the pizza effect". Pizza as we know it— as *Italy* knows it— is an American dish inspired by Italian immigrants and re-exported to Italy. Its surprising that people can't fathom one of the largest pizza chains in the world was actually in italy as well. Italian pizza aint that great.
I'm an American, and I think Domino's tastes SO GROSS. I'll eat Pizza Hut if I have to, but the only good pizza is Brooklyn style with a thin crust, the type you get from most of the small pizzarias.
Looking at the pictures and seeing prices in Yens, I really wonder, if charging in euros could help the company to survive? Maybe Americans are not aware, but in Europe, goods are paid in Euros. I guess Americans just took a random currency and were wondering why nobody is paying for pizza? =))) Sarcasm.
The reason Domino's decided to establish in Italy seems to be that at the time, there were no Italian pizzerias doing home deliveries. However, this changed during Covid and the local pizzerias usually charged less for their pizzas, and probably tasted better as well.
They didn't get their research right then. Pizza delivery is something that exists in Italy since at least 30 years, and surely not only in big cities (font: my personal experience).

I unapologetically think Dominoes thin crust pepperoni is the best pizza out there. I know. I know. But, I love it.
We have them in South Africa and they're doing okay, but we have other pizza chains that have delicious ingredients that you can actually taste separately! And Pizza Perfect has the BEST pizza in Mzansi!
They lasted longer in Italy then Target did in Canada. 2 years here.
I stopped buying dominoes and pizza hut pizzas when the played their shrink relation game with the size of their "large" pizzas. Still have them on occasion thru work lunches etc and am even more disgusted with their continuous shrink relation efforts on their toppings now. Sooo many excellent family owned pizza shops in the world that make real topped real pizzas.
Firstable, why Dominos inaugured in Italy? just the firts store? why?
I am surprised that the Italian Pizza Industry doesn't fund just one remaining Dominoe's. If only to point any critic to it for comparison, and also so that even the worst Italian pizzaria can honestly say they aren't the worst.
Any food is certainly a matter of personal taste, that's for sure. And a huge part of what we consider "good" is conditioned by what we are used to. Obviously, since I'm Italian, I consider Italian style pizza the best, both for flavour, quality of ingredients and way of cooking it. I ate pizza in 4 continents and several different states and I rest my case. Of course you're gonna find some bad pizzas over here as well, but, for the most, Italian pizza is considered the best, by people and food critics.
