Dog Owner Builds A ‘Doggie-Vator’ Stairlift For Her Three Elderly Rescued Pugs And People Find It Adorable
Quarantine involuntarily gave most of us plenty of time to delve deep in our own thoughts. And with that whole thing going on, many interesting ideas were born and brought to life. Some of them were good, some of them were bad, some were questionable and some of them could be considered quite bizarre. Though I firmly believe, that the best ideas out there are usually both good and weird at the same time. Today, let’s talk about one of them.
A woman from New Orleans named Sonya Karimi came up with a genius idea on how she could help her elderly dogs climb the stairs easier. The woman decided to build her rescue doggies a mini wooden stairlift that she called the Doggie-vator. Sonya shared some footage of her creation on the interwebs and it seems like people find it absolutely adorable.
Here’s the video Sonya shared on her Instagram profile

The owner came up with the idea to build this lift a few months ago when she adopted one of the dogs named Bodhi, who had a torn knee ligament.
How did she come up with this idea, you ask? Sonya is actually an occupational therapist. “At work, I’ve seen how helpful stairlifts are to people so I was surprised there wasn’t anything similar for dogs with all the different products that are available for pets nowadays. So I thought that we might be able to create something ourselves for our dogs to use” Sonya told Daily Mail.
Here you can see all four of Sonya’s dogs: 10-year-old Bodhi, 4-year-old Emery, 13-year-old George and 10-year-old Sam

“They’ve adapted to it so quickly, I thought I’d have to train them for a while to get used to it but they just get on it as if they’ve had it for years! The two older pugs love it especially – they won’t use the stairs, they will sit there and wait until the ride is ready for them and it’s so cute,” the owner told Daily Mail.
Even though this lift was mostly built for the elders of the family, 4-year-old Emery also enjoys using it quite a bit.

A journey with this Doggie-vator goes something like this: a dog walks into the little wooden box and then one of the owners close it, so the dog won’t jump out. After that, the button on the remote control is clicked and the dog sets off down the stairs. Finally, when the cart stops, the dog steps out of the box on to an easily accessible ramp.
It took around 3 months for Sonya to build this wooden lift

God bless you for caring and loving your pets so much. I recently lost my pet Yorkie to congestive heart failure during the COVID quarantine. I built her a ramp to get up and down off my bed. I sure miss her and her cute little face. Take care of your dogs and bless you.
This would be quite easy to automate, and dogs smart enough to learn by themselves. Reaching the end it can switch direction & stop until activated with a push button in the box itself. No real need for 'doors' either end! just 3-4inch edge step will be plenty.
Nifty idea, but with four dogs in the picture I'd be afraid to let them use this without supervision
Load More Replies...Now it needs a coat of paint in a jaunty color like fire engine red or bright blue.
I imagine that the dogs want to spend HOURS each day riding up and down. This lift is a great idea.
I think this is such an awesome idea! Really creative. My girl makes groaning sounds when you pick her up, this would be perfect for her except she'd probly be scared of it unfortunately.
Sorry I think it would be faster to carry those little dogs directly one floor higher if they are not trained to open the box and to start transport by themselves... And it's not a design piece I would love to have in my home, sorry. (Yes I love dogs and I grew up with hunting dogs and German Shepards)
I thought the same. If the lift has to be operated by a human anyway.
Load More Replies...This still needs a human to operate it. They're tiny dogs. Why don't you just carry them up and down?
Don't know if it's the case here, but many older animals have joint pain, and find it painful/frightening to be lifted
Load More Replies...I would buy one for my 14 year old rottie-chow in a heartbeat. This is amazing. I need to figure out if I can build this strong enough to hold a 90lb pupper.
I love this. It is the sweetest thing for them to do for their beloved pets. And from the video, the dogs look so happy.
Such a lovely couple. This story is very heart warming during these difficult times. Hope that all the Boredpandas are doing fine. This is the kind of story that should be on BP as often as possible.
My dogs need this to they would love it. Make sure you get a paten for this so no one can say they though of this
This is the best quarantine project I've seen. And the dogs are so smart for learning how to use it!
This woman is a absolute genius! She needs to go on shark tank and sell this!!
OMFG! This is the cutest group of misfits EVER! Love this story.
This is wonderful! I love how she built it around the side table instead of just moving the table. Why does it need such a long ramp though? Can't the dog just enter it from the floor like they do at the top? I hope she filed a patent on this! Emery is a Boston Terrier ;)
OMG! I've been trying to figure out a solution that would allow my 14 y/o corgi to access the basement level in our new home, because i am unable to safely carry her. This is genius! I could kiss the designer for giving me such a simple solution!
Nice extended ramp addition but I hope she got the idea years ago from watching "Bubba's Boom Boom Bus" - there were versions before then but Bubba's person was kind enough to post the how-to-instructions.
