Dog Who Was Stabbed In The Head While Trying To Protect His Owner From An Armed Robber, Miraculously Survives

Dogs can be not only our best friends but also our rescuers in the time of need. The heroic German Shepard Duke proved it by almost sacrificing his life to defend his beloved owner from an armed robber.

More info: Facebook

When Duke’s Gino Wensel, 40, from South Africa, took him out for a walk he noticed a suspicious man with a knife in his hand approaching. Before Gino had the chance to react, Duke rushed into action.

To protect his owner from what seemed to be a robbery attempt Duke began aggressively growling at the stranger.

However, the heartless man responded by lodging a knife into the puppy’s head. Duke used his remaining strength to scare off the cruel criminal and collapsed to the ground.

Fortunately, Duke was still alive after the brutal attack, so his heartbroken owner immediately brought him to the vets.

Duke was taken to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa, which turns 90 years old on the 9th of March 2019. “Duke came into our hospital in a critical state and our medical team had to act fast to save his life,” the nurse told Bored Panda. “Unfortunately, we will never know what went through the gangster’s head that did this to Duke, but all that mattered to us was to save Duke’s life,” she added.  An X-ray was taken to see what kind of damage the knife wound had caused. It became clear that the vets had to act quickly. “Seconds seemed like hours and with Duke lapsing in and out of consciousness our veterinarian very quickly concluded that if we were to save him the knife needed to be extracted urgently,” the organization wrote in their Facebook post.

Luckily, the veterinarian managed to save Duke’s life by safely removing the knife and the whole staff and Gino were overwhelmed with relief.

The heroic Duke was quickly reunited with his owner and praised for his loyalty.

Stab a dog in the head? Seriously? I wish the worst possible version of hell was real, that person needs to go there. Just eternal torture, no biggie. Stabbing a dog in the head.. Jeez.

Dogs are amazing. I was home alone one day when some guys came to replace my broken front window. They were looking at me in an appraising, speculative way. My 2 hero dogs got between me and them and would not let them any closer than about 20 feet. I had never trained them, and they had never done this before, or ever again. I don't know whether they sensed my discomfort or their hostile intentions. Maybe both, but I am so grateful. Your poor dog! I am thrilled that he recovered.

Fact: S**t like this is happening to women, children, men and everyone in Zim right now. People are getting killed for no reason every day. Beaten on the streets, stabbed in the face.

Have a serious question for dog owners - what would you do if a larger dog had you pinned to the ground and in serious fear of your life?

A dog will lay down it's life for it's owner or handler - whether a pet or a law enforcement animal. Whether trained to - or just instinct when there is danger. I thank god I dont live in the US. - where a pet can be shot for just barking by the police

Poor brave thing with a knife impaled in his head. What an evil person. I no longer have my dogs - but when I did - they protected me in several instances from physical harm. Bless them and all animals who will instinctively protect their human.

I read a totally different version of this story. Owner was walking with his dog not on a leash. Suddenly the dog began barking and growling at a person just walking by . The dog started moving towards that person like he was going to attack him. Person pulled his knife to defend himself against the dog and stabbed him. https://www.theepochtimes.com/dog-survives-knife-steak-knife-embedded-in-skull-after-growling-at-gangster_2795431.html

Did you get a good look at that knife? Not a pocketknife, so the attacker was probably intent on doing someone some harm. Let's not diminish what Duke did. He loves his human and would die for him. Would you do the same?
