Someone Asks Whether Dog Owners Would Give 5 Years Of Their Life To Their Dog, And This Reply Goes Viral

Nearly every dog owner out there would agree that their pet is their best buddy. Their friend. Their adorable amigo and crafty companion.

But how many of them would cut 5 years of their lives to give them to their doggos? That’s the question that one Reddit user posed and one of the responses they got was just incredible.

A redditor named Experimentallity told the internet how their dog, a bull terrier called Daisy, protected them and their kids from an aggressive bear. Scroll down to read the redditor’s story in their own words and let us know if a best boy or girl has ever helped you out when you were in need, fellow Pandas.

One owner shared how his dog saved them and their family from a bear

Experimentallity’s story struck a chord with the Reddit community, getting over 9.2k upvotes and 8 awards. And the best part? Even though the bear wounded brave ol’ Daisy, she’s alive and loved more than ever (even though she doesn’t go on walks anymore).

“When a pine needle drops in the forest, a turkey sees it, a deer hears it, and a bear smells it,” the US Scouting Service Project repeats an old saying about just how finely-tuned bears’ senses are. Though bears tend to be disinterested in people, encounters with them aren’t unknown. Bears are fast, strong, and ferocious, so it’s a good idea to know how to deal with them if you ever encounter ‘em while hiking or vacationing.

These animals will defend their territory and their young (we like to think of them as teddy bears), so it’s vital that you never feed or approach a bear.

If you’re camping, you ought to put away all of your food and trash. Otherwise, the smell might attract bears. For that very same reason, you shouldn’t eat in or anywhere near your tent, trailer, or cabin because the smell will linger. You should also avoid using anything with a strong odor like perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, and hair sprays.

However, if you do end up spotting a bear in the distance, either leave the area or make a wide detour. But. Do. Not. Run. Don’t scream. And don’t make any sudden movements.

If a bear is showing aggression, slowly back up and softly talk to it in a low tone of voice. Staying calm, cool, and collected is the best way to get out of the situation unharmed. If you feel that your life is in danger, slowly climb a tree and wait for the bear to leave.

Do you have any more tips about protecting yourselves from bears, dear Readers? Would you give up 5 years of your lives to give them to your dogs? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Here’s how some people reacted to the story. Some of them even shared similar stories of their own

There was a little girl walking her maltese down the street when two pitt bulls came running out the back alley and started tearing at the maltese. I stopped my car, ran yelling at the pitts, kicked one in the face so it would let go of the malty. Both started to run back to their backyard. But as they did..one turned to come back and I heard the malty start snarling and barking at it. The pitt looked at me..I stomped my foot on the ground and yelled for it to go home. It ran off. Malty collapsed, was taken to the vet. Full recovery and spoiled rotten from there on out for being brave enough to try to defend a little girl. The pitts, unfortunately, were seized by animal control and euthanized as it was the 3rd incident with them doing this. Horrible owner of those pitts caused them to lose their life by not properly socializing them. I feel bad for the dogs.

I love how you put the blame on the owner of the pits and not the dogs themselves, dogs don't know any better than what their shown poor pups. I'm so happy the Maltese made a full recovery deserves the world ♥️

When I was little, we had a big, beautiful, and oh so gentle Saint Bernard named Heidi, who was such a wonderful companion for a small child. We also lived in a farmhouse that was on kind of a busy road, and had a fence with a gate around the front of the property facing that road. One day, when I was about 2 years old (which would make it 1962-1963), I decided to explore that front fence and gate. Years later, my mother told me she saw me toddle down the front walk towards the gate and, as she was running out the front door, she also saw Heidi galloping down the walk fast enough to pass me and plop all of her 150 lbs down right in front of the gate, so I wouldn’t be able to get to the road. When my mother finally got to me, she said I was trying to push Heidi out of the way, which of course wasn’t going to happen. Heidi saved my little life that day. I love her so much for it—-and her gentle companionship in my toddles around the house and property—-that I would happily give her the 57 years I’ve been alive now since that day.

I was too young to remember this but my mom toh my this story that when i was young there was a lady who didn't treat dogs quite well and would pelt stones at them and not feed them. One day she came running to my mom out of breath to complaint about me because I chased her down the entire locality with a broken cinder block in my hand because i caught her throwing cold water on a dog in the wake of winter season. Still proud of what i did.

Two years ago I was in an abusive relationship and my (now)ex boyfriend almost killed me. He has severe PTSD and in a drunken-blackout rage started punching me in the face. My 9lbs chihuahua who also loved him went after him -attacked his legs, bit through his pants and didn’t leg go until he kicked her off. The distraction of her attack (she’s a tiny dog she couldn’t do much) but it was enough to snap him out of his blackout and realize what he had done. He called 911, I had to have surgery on my face and hand but my wonderful little chi was just fine. I have no doubt she saved my life that night. Six months later I found a mass on her, it ended up being malignant... I spent every penny I had and went into even more debt to get her the surgery and care she needed and is doing great! — also left that relationship that night, should have done it sooner.

A few years back, my son who was 15 at the time and our Boxer named Evie (she was a rescue and around 6 at the time) were out for their daily walk. My son always took her on the same route as it was a long walk and Evie really loved it. A short way into the walk, 2 pit bulls came flying out of their backyard and lunged at my son. Evie protected him with every ounce of her being. The owners and a neighbor had to use 2x4s to beat the pits off of Evie. Once free, Evie and Jeff bolted home. I was inside and heard her barking. They both made it inside before the pits could get at them. My poor baby girl ended up with bites on her neck, ears, head and torso. She needed stitches in most of the areas. She is ok now but if she hears the words pit bull, she visibly shakes. My son was traumatized but not injured. He is ok now. The pits were euthanized and the owners fined severely. I would be more than willing to give her as much of my life as she needed. She is my baby even tho she is now 9.

We were camping in the north Georgia woods. 3 kids under 10. Pitch black sky with a raging campfire when all of a sudden our sweet, but dumber than a rock 10 year old Golden retriever started Barking like crazy. Then we see a mountain of a black bear on the other side of the creek. Harley took off like a bullet and then we heard nothing. I thought for sure we'd lost him. He comes running back and proceeds to have a seizure for 5 minutes. That sweet brave boy would have given his life for ours. I would have given mine for his. He loved us so much, he lived to 17. Which is insane for a Golden. Miss that sweet lug.

Can we do the same with our cats? I have 2 lovely cats, 11 years old, and 2 sons, 4 years and 9 months.. they have just started loving each other, I am already suffering from the idea that in a few years I will have to explain to my children that our adventure companions are gone. my two cats are teaching my children love for animals, patience and affection and on more than one occasion they have prevented my children approaching an open door or unattended stairs (parents have 4 eyes but sometimes they are not enough ..). they are not dogs but they have the love and dedication of dogs, I would gladly give up a few years to have them longer with my family ..

If your cats are inside cats they can live to be 20. If they're microchipped, and the chips registered by you (owners need to take that step) they can be returned if they get out. Your sons can have then a good long time.

I'm sitting here sobbing. I'm at the point in my life where I've had several dogs. All which left me due to old age (which tells you how old I am LOL). And I'd give 5 years of my life for each of them. I had a lovely black lab who never barked. But one night she did because someone was breaking in my house. I was alone except the dogs. I had two at the time, and they teamed up and attacked the guy who broke in before he could make it further into the house. The police caught the guy at the ER with dog bites. After I was divorced, I got custody of the one dog. My ex had the other dog before we even met, and he loved him, so I let him keep him. But I had my lovely old gal until she was a respectable 14 years. Not bad for a big lab. I still miss her. What an unbelievable dog Daisy is. I hope she lives forever.

Daisy is amazing and just typical of what a dog really. I lost my dog to diabetes 6 years ago and I would give anything Thrace him back. I still grieve for him. I would happily have given him 30 years of my life so we could live out our lives together. But I have Shilo now. I love him just as much. I would love to have him for the next 3 decades. We could live out our lives together. Losing a dog is the hardest thing I ever had to do. But falling in love with another's is very hard at the start as I felt I was somehow betraying Saba my last dog but now I have fallen in love with Shilo my current dog the thought of loosing kills me. He's welcome to any of my life.

My border collie/kelpie mix was so fearful I literally couldn't walk him during the day so I would take him to our forested local park late at night. One night he started barking (unusual for him) and running a semi-circle between me and the woods. After a few minutes of this, a guy stepped out and asked me to call my dog off. I told him I didn't know how and we left immediately. Jack wouldn't let street people who were obviously spun anywhere near me, but was good with people otherwise. He's old and has dementia now, but at 16 he still wants to go for walks. I would happily trade ant part of my life for my animals

I had a dog called Patch. He was not what you would call an identifiable breed and would need DNA lineage backtracking to see what he was made up from. I was 12 at the time and we played a lot and he would never leave my side but he was as daft as a brush. Like the time I got into trouble at school for pouring poster paint on a teachers car. It washed off, I should know because I had the joyous task after school. I got home and my mom told me off and was smacking me on the shoulder "What the hell were you thinking?" and we shouted and argued and MY patch, MY dog bit me on the back of leg, growling to defend my mom! I hadn't even hit my mom and I never have! We all suddenly stopped and looked at him and he just sat there as if nothing had happened, head cocked to one side with the innocent look of "What?" We burst out laughing at that point. Roll forward to the summer holidays 1983 and I was out with my dog and the ball rolled across the road.

This road was well known for speeders doing 40+ in a 20mph area (sign posted). Patch suddenly ran across the road at me as I started to cross and hit me squarely in the chest knocking meon my a*s on the grass and all I heard was a bang and a yelp. MY dog died that day. He died saving me from a moronic ba****d using the road as a race track. I held him as he died and called him a good boy and he wagged his tail a couple of times and was gone. (Sorry its been 36 years and I still get upset) If I could I would gladly give him every last bit of life I could just to rub that fluffy belly again. That daft dog. I haven't owned a dog since.

When I first married we had a dog named Tita. She saved my life when I was followed back to my NYC apartment. I opened the door and she just stood there - not growling but obviously preparing to attack. He turned and pretended to ring the doorbell of my neighbors. She also attacked a couple people when our oldest daughter was a baby and it appeared to her that they were going to attack her. She died in 1986, which devastated me. Then in 2001 I discovered that we could have saved her. I'm not going to go into details here about why we didn't even know she'd been hit by a car and killed for several days, but even now, 34 years later, I still cry about it. I literally almost died about 3 weeks ago, so this is hard for me to say, but I think I'd have given Tita 5 years. More if I could, but I actually do know how it would affect my family, so I couldn't say I'd give more.

When my mother was young they had a mutt they called "Heinz" as in Heinz 57 Varieties. My mom slept with her window open at night and Heinz slept outside, directly underneath her window. One night she woke up hearing growling, etc. from Heinz, which stopped when she saw light reflect off something metal. The next morning, her parents didn't let her go outside for a long time. From the blood and footsteps and Heinz's body, apparently a man came near my Mom's window, Heinz jumped up at him (and must have gotten to at least one big artery), but this piece of whatever used his knife to gut Heinz from his belly to his neck. We had another dog named Buffy who was walking at night with my parents. Sudden she pushed herself in front of my mom and about half a minute later, collapsed. She let this big copperhead bite her instead of my mom. My dad did COR on her and they got her to a vet. She lived to the age of 16.

I rescued my dog the day he was to be put down. I went to animal control about a week before to ask directions of all things! And I realized how much i missed having a pet. So I went back. As I was signing papers, I overheard a comment. He was supposed to be put down that day. It was 20 minutes to end of day when I signed the papers and paid the fee. About 6 months later, i was waiting for my friend to grab something from Wal-mart. I had just moved and still had my out of state plates on my rusrty trusty. It was an extended truck with tinted back windows. Out of the blue theres a knock on my window and I look-right down a barrel. Next thing I know, my newly adopted dog is in my lap, all bristled and snarling. I've never seen a black man turn white before. My dog is a Belgian Malinois. (Animal control told us he was GSD.) He's been my savior, just I have been his. Was it worth it? Yes. Do it again? Yes. Give him 5 years of my life? You bet!!

For sure I would give 5 years to my dog (I'd probably give 10 or 15), but if I could only give away 5 years I would give them to my rats. Rats have such short lives (2-3 years) and they deserve so much more. It's also heartbreak to loose so many animals so quickly, so it wouldn't be a purely selfless action.

Only those, who at lest once owned a dog (not the one who are cruel to them and keep them for fun) can understand, that they are family. we name them,we maybe even live long years with them even in a household,we share our life's and every moment with them and remember them one by one by name and habits,we just simply love them. It's like having a sister/brother,when you have them as kids,or as if they were your kids, if you get them as grownups. I saved many dogs, cats, birds and once even a bat off the street, and remember them all,and those, who stayed with us,due to lack of finding them a foster home,I loved them with all my heart...hell,I was IN LOVE WITH THEM! I'd give 5 years of my life to save any of my dogs or cats that died before their time. Why? Because I loved them, and treasured the pure love they gave me. I was devastated that cancer or some other disease cut their beautiful, innocent lives short. And I would never, ever expect that they sacrifice themselves defending me to deserve that love from me.

Yes, I would. (As long as that won't mean I'd die before my dog.) I can't share a dramatic story but once some guys came towards me and one made grabby gestures with his hands towards me (and my chest) My fussy little primadonna of a poodlemix jumped in front of me and barked at him like crazy. I've also seen her not give an inch when someone wanted to come inside the house (it was a plumber who had a key). Now, at 9kg with lots of floof, my pooch is not very threatenign. But she fully throws herself into it and would totally defend me. I love her to pieces.

I adopted my first dog while living in New York. I was around 38. I knew nothing about dogs. NOTHING!!! Morpheus, a black shepherd mix, got me up to speed with doggie stuff. I was in love the second I met him. A year later, I was going through a tough time and Morpheus was my raison d'etre. He gave me the courage to ask for help and get my life back together. We moved to Florida where i could take him to work. Morpheus and I were inseparable. When he became very ill, I would have given my life to him: I know it sounds crazy but I wished to die before he did. after Morpheus, I met Neo. I tried to get less attached and within one month, Neo had me around his little paw. I can't imagine having to say good bye to him too. I wouldn't give 5 years: I would give my life to my dogs. I don't see myself without a dog. You never replace a dog. It is It is a continuation of the Spirit DOG.

I love dogs! I've never had one but it's my dream to get any dog someday. I was chased by a german shepherd when I was little, it was never aggressive towards me (it probably wanted to play "chase" or something) but I was little and not at all used to dogs and this was a big dog. So I got really scared and kept that experience and fear for years, until I outgrew it. I love dogs now and I won't stop. I am extra in love with german shepherds too, that's a bit odd considering the scare I had 30-ish years ago.

There are questions in other forum site which goes like "What would you do if someone hurt your pet?" That could also be if something hurt your dog might be both animals are just defending each other, I would pretty much also run back again to the bear and will try to scare it away (hope not ending me to injure it badly), since we know our pet will just attack it because it's defending us and the bear also attacks retaliation for it's life preservation. In the first place we camp in a place where bears are roaming around so we can't blame them on why they end up in our campsites and blame our selves for putting our pets lives in harm. I'll give half of my life for this good doggos since 3 even 5 years are not enough to return the loyalty and unconditional love they give to us.

I had to make the hardest decision: my dog bit my little boy. She had been abused before I got her and had sore hips. He was learning to walk, and pulled her leg and she lashed out. He only got a scratch, but it was enough. Of course just to make life harder my husband was deployed... anyway, I held her and told her how much I loved her as the vet helped her over the Rainbow Bridge. That was 2.5 years ago, I still cry, I still miss her. She was such a good girl. I still have my other dog thankfully. Would give 5 years of my life to take away Bella's pain, and still have her with us.

I don't understand how people could risk their lives for a dog. How could you leave your children without a parent or your partner without you. I've seen a close friend go through life having lost her father when we were kids (he died in the military not like this) and the pain it's caused her when he wasn't there for all the big things in her life like her wedding and the birth of her own children, and all the small things. She has struggled feeling that if he had loved her he wouldn't have risked not being there for her. Imagine being haunted by the thought that your child might think you loved the dog more than them! For me it would have to be people first every time.

Same with hamsters, they only live like 2 or 2,5 years and I cried my guts out both times when my hamsters died.

I would definitely give away 5 of my lives to have my beloved Bubbles back, She has been gone for 6 years and I still miss her dearly. She was something super special. I have lost many people in my life but the loss of her effected me the most.

I miss them all!

I grew up with dogs and cats. Love them both! But our dog is a rescue and with 2 years of hard work, we got him to wear he doesn't guard his food, does little tricks like tip toe to the back door, and the standard shake and two paw shake. He is wonderful, fierce, caring and compassionate. He acts like he would do what he needs to and make sure we are safe!we love him so much!

Too many onions here. Our wonderful pets trust us unconditionally and look after us. I miss my beautiful dogs and cats. So sad they don’t live as long as we do.

Screw the 5 years! And my Chloe never even saved my life - she just was a part of my life, and a beautiful part! Love her to tears.

"Try to be the kind of human your dog thinks you are." is one of the wisest aphorisms I've ever read in my 67 years on earth.

I was born and raised in rather remote area of SW Alaska and now live in the interior of Alaska and totally disagree with how to handle a close bear .. noise will scare it off . offense smell like cigars as well ( used to work For Alaska Dept. of fish and Game ) whistles are good idea so is a 12 ga pump with slugs and zero ought buck be aware be noisy .Bears have bad eyesight but great smell normally once get wind of you will leave .. yes my dogs have scared them off .. spent many a summer doing remote work with salmon during spawning with No mishap including sleep just off the steams ..

My son and my dog are the most precious things in my life, I would give every year, every day, every hour I had left to either of them without a second taught.

I would like for both my dog and me to leave this earth at the same time. That would be the best scenario for me.

Yes, without a doubt. If I had to do it for every dog I have had, I may run a bit short though.
