7 Dogs Before And After Japanese Grooming (New Pics)

I’m an animal photographer, and these images are from my photo series titled HAIRY. I originally posted 8 dogs here on Bored Panda in 2016. I’ve since expanded the series, spending three months photographing 30+ more dogs before and after their grooming sessions. Here are seven new dogs.
All the dogs have been groomed in a Japanese style. Japanese dog grooming does not follow the rules of traditional, breed-standard grooming. In fact, the dog groomers have one mission ― to bring out the dogs’ individual personalities and make them look as adorable as possible! With extreme attention to detail and careful consideration of a pup’s best attributes, Japanese pet groomers and salons achieve the perfect transformations by forgetting the uniform looks and getting creative.
The dogs in the series were groomed by the incredibly talented groomers from Healthy Spot in Los Angeles, CA. Many of the groomers there specialize in this Japanese fashion style of cut and have been trained by Japanese masters.

I actually think the dogs look so much better with their natural hair instead of the groomed..
That's cool but they need to be brushed out daily or groomed every 6-8 weeks or they'll get horrific mats that can cause bruising or immobility. For some people the grooming is more practical...
maybe he means we should groom it, but keep the natural looks
But does that mean they have to look more like a teddy bear than a dog?
That's right, my terrier with really short hair started to get matted after no haircut after a while, and we had to trim his fur.
People just need to brush their dogs a few times a week, thats all, nothing more needed, some fur/hair types need a bit more of course, short breeds shouldn't need a lot of grooming at all, this is lovely of course but its wholly unnecessary and i'm sure costs a lot. No dogs needs to be groomed in a salon every 6-8 weeks, thats ridiculous and could quite easily be detrimental to the dogs skin. My terrier gets his hair cut 3 times a year, full short cut everytime and he has lovely fur and skin.
You don't need to pay someone to brush your dog for you.
Really? Dirty and un-brushed? It's not healthy and you can see by their faces they are happier afterwards. My Papillon doesn't particularly love going to his groomer but when he comes out he has an extra zing in his step.
except maybe Messi. I mean, total teen-age-angst coming out in that before picture "Haricuts? Bleuh-pfftpfpfpf" (okay, for the record, that's my favorite picture here. Sue me.)
Don't be 'that guy', dogs need to be groomed, it's unhealthy otherwise. The first dogs look oily and dirty! The second ones and cute and clean. Having that much dirty hair can irritate the skin!
The best example here would have been Calvin... went from disgruntled postal employee to happy-go-lucky inside of however long it took to trim him.
Also there is nothing natural about artificial selection.
I agree with you, but f. ex. Poodles need to be groomed, their fur never stops growing & would become matted, but I think these pups look hilarious with their new haircuts!!! LOL

On the one hand, the groomers work is impressive and the dogs do not look unhappy. On the other hands, they look artificial. Animals are no toys.
The dogs are happier now that they can see.
I guess they could have done without the styling on top of that, though. ;)
Especially Calvin. He looked so happy after.
Your comment implies that even if an animal doesn't look unhappy but looks artificial it becomes a toy? these animals have not be injured they have been cared for in a lovely way to show people the beauty of dogs just enjoys why is everyone becoming so negative!!!!
Please do not mistake critical thinking for negativity. You may notice I used "on the ond hand...on the other hand" to indicate that I am neither ranting not single-sided.
Agreed, they need the grooming, what does it matter if they look cute after for a day or so? Dogs aren't toys, but we are guilty of far worse with our kids in the quest for cuteness, thinking here of the ruffles put on baby girl clothing on every spare inch of cloth.
