Dog Eats Family’s Entire Christmas Turkey, Can’t Move Afterwards

On Christmas Eve, one greedy pooch named Bubba snuck into the kitchen and secretly ate the whole turkey bird. The naughty dog’s owner David Barrett from Prestwick, South Ayrshire, realized what happened only when he saw the doggie collapsing on the floor. Bubba was so bloated that it made the Chi Apso (a mix between Chihuahua and Lhasa Apso) unable to move.

The family pet only left a tiny piece of the Christmas dinner, but it wasn’t nearly enough to feed the Barretts. The canine’s owner decided to share the hilarious story on Twitter. He tweeted: “No chance has my silly dog scranned the whole turkey for tomorrow.” Then Barrett added a picture with the following caption: “There’s the culprit; she can’t move.”

Fortunately, the Christmas dinner was saved when the family got the relatives to bring another turkey. And as for Bubba… Her owner is fixing a new doggie diet right after the New Year.

More info: Twitter (h/t:)

Realizing that his dog ate the Christmas turkey, David Barrett posted:  “There’s the culprit, she can’t move”

Not only is it unfortunate for the dog that it almost died from an unattended turkey.... but the parents think it's funny to post photos as well. This would be a DIFFERENT story if they posted as a warning to other unaware dog owners.... but no, they sought internet humor by "share the hilarious story on Twitter." NOTHING is hilarious about this story.

You people are self-righteous, moralizing, condescending, sanctimonious, goody-goody, preachy idiots. This story IS funny. I bet the dog thinks: "yeah, hurt little, but wow, turkey was such yummy, so taste ......"

Well, I still think it's hilarious. This clever self-regulating dog ate as much as it could and left the rest. It's not that it happens every day. And I still think you people are insufferably hateful towards this dog's owners. You cannot supervise pets all the time. Stuff happens. Get a life, instead of sticking your controlling compulsive supervisory obsessions to where they are self-evidently not needed.

Calm down, everyone. The self-righteousness in these comments is tipping my scale of patience. God, you all think that you are better than the owner just because his dog ate unattended food. You don't even know the backstory to this, how it got to the turkey in the first place and if the owner had any distractions at the time. Yet you're automatically the judge and the jury that can decide that the dog is probably neglected for the rest of the time as well, and that he should be taken from his owners, coming close to suggesting that he'd almost be better off in a shelter..? Pathetic. Yes, they made a mistake by not prioritising taking him to the vet first and trying to make what seemed like a light-hearted joke online. But this can teach many lessons to everyone. Mainly, the fact that a lot of degeneration of our progress as a civilisation is down to you, finger-pointing, self-catering, blindly-judging people who can't even fathom the possibility of constructive advice.

Butbtydtr Thank god he didn't get a bone stick in his throat or a sharp bone in his belly, which could puncture his throat, esophagus, stomach or his intestines. This poor dog should've been brought to the vet there are always 24 hr vet hospitals. The dog needed to throw up.

In the wild dogs ate whatever was available as they didn't know when they'd next get to eat. This survival trait still exists in domesticated dogs, even though it's no longer necessary, hence why dogs are prone to obesity. The only ones to blame here are the owners who left the turkey out for the dog to get at.

First off, we even have to make jokes about putting our dogs on diets for the new year, just because they behaved like dogs do. Secondly, this is a very small dog and it could've been very dangerous for her to eat so much at once. She needed a vet check, not a twitter post. And maybe she did get one, but that info should've been included then. Finally, I truly hope this turkey was really a turkey breast since poultry bones are really dangerous for dogs to eat. If it wasn't AND she still wasn't taken to the vet (or the vet consulted by phone at minimum), then these are truly irresponsible pet owners. Regardless, this isn't a funny story without knowing all of these facts, and certainly not something that should be promoted as such. If we knew she'd gone to the vet, and we knew she was cleared of any danger, then we could laugh about it. But without that? It just reeks of irresponsibility and makes me sad for poor Bubba.

That's just not necessarily true. It's rare to find a dog who wouldn't go crazy and eat most of a turkey if given the chance, regardless of how well cared for they are otherwise. It's a novelty food and a delicious one for them. Most dogs would've done this. Cats are less likely to eat themselves sick, but dogs are infamous for it.

How irresponsible are the owners to leave the dog unattended with the turkey??? Poor Bubba might´ve died!!! We all know dogs don´t stop eating once they found something that only looks tasty, so the pup´s absolutely not to blame, I really hope the owners took her to the vet - that would´ve been the least they could do!!!

It has obviously already been said, but I'll add to the pile that this is absolutely not funny and only helping support this sad need for attention people have and clicks sites like this want. The lack of focus on "veterinary attention" for possible obstruction or perforation from any bones ingested by this small dog, and the need to share pictures, speaks to irresponsible owners AND media. Slant this towards "this is what can happen if you don't take precautions with the dinner, and the cost involved in seeking proper care" sure. But funny? Not at all. I clicked on it because of how shocked and disappointed I was this was noted as "funny", so maybe that was the point? If so... sigh...

In the wild dogs ate whatever was available as they didn't know when they'd next get to eat. This survival trait still exists in domesticated dogs, even though it's no longer necessary, hence why dogs are prone to obesity. The only ones to blame here are the owners who left the turkey out for the dog to get at.

What a bunch of self righteous a*****e hateful comments being posted! The doggie looks fine, yes a little bloated, but perhaps other than just a bunch of gas and a doggie diet later and this little pooch will be fine!

Here's a thought ...the owner made the post for other pet owners to warn what could happen

Poor dog. She looks like she's in pain. A dog that was getting proper nutrition from her food would not have eaten herself sick like that.

I don't believe it! The bones would have killed it before the overeating...if its true...but I don't believe it one bit!!! I think you just let your dog get fat and thought it a cute joke ....

I think the turkey was carved and the dog ate all that, but I'm just guessing. If it wasn't carved, I agree that it eating the keel and ribs and everything is highly unlikely.

You want to see real cruelty being done to dogs and animals?? Go to Afghanistan, Iraq and any third world country where animals are disposable and not cherished pets. Get thicker skin while you're at it.

If so... sigh...

I think it ate the carved turkey, but yes cooked bones facture in sharp pieces that can cause numerous issues for a dog's digestive tract

Uuuum.... well, I noticed that I somehow differ from a type of humour here on boredpanda, but... really? I dont give a ffff if that dog could die or not, but ... is this really something so important that it should be clasified as a story? :D
