Breeder Abandoned 5-Month-Old Pomeranian Because He Was “Too Big”, They Probably Regret It Now
477Kviews
Dogs may be man’s best friend but this doesn’t mean that man is always friendly towards dogs. Whether it’s dog fighting, abuse or neglect there are some people out there who are pretty cruel to these animals. Bertram the Pomeranian learned this horrible lesson when he was left behind by his breeders because he was ‘too big to sell.’ Luckily for Bert, New York artist Kathy Grayson found him on petfinder and immediately decided to adopt the pup.
Originally listed as “Jasper,” she said there was something about his eyes that caught her attention. “I flew to Tulsa and drove to the town to pick him up, it was a wonderful adventure. The shelter was sad to see him go, he definitely had gotten some special extra love there,” Grayson told Bored Panda.
The gallery owner isn’t the only one who noticed something special about Bert, the internet has fallen in love with the Pomeranian and he now has over 93k followers on Instagram.
In his spare time, he works as an “art connoisseur” in his owner’s gallery The Hole. “I love when people come to the gallery to see Bertie or when they bring their dogs to meet Bertie! The gallery is free and open to the public so come on by and pet him!” said the artist.
When it comes to Bert’s incredible social media success, his owner says she is not surprised, “Bert is a wonderful guy and makes people happy, the internet and social media is built for cute animals, people need an antidote to all the nastiness.”

When Bertram The Pomeranian was only 5 months old, a dog breeder abandoned him
The reason being that the puppy was ‘too big to sell’
His owner Kathy Grayson found him on a pet adoption site and brought him to NY where she owns an art gallery
“Bert is very calm and chill, inquisitive and silly”, Kathy says
Now, Bert helps Kathy in her art gallery as an art connoisseur
“I gave him his own Instagram as he was taking over my art gallery page! I need to post paintings and people just wanted to see Bert”
“I love when people come to the art gallery to see Bertie or when they bring their dogs to meet Bertie!
And even though his life started off a bit rough, he now enjoys living in NY
Bert’s now a social media star, with over 95k followers on Instagram, and Kathy says she’s not surprised
“Bert is a wonderful guy and makes people happy, the Internet and social media are built for cute animals, people need an antidote to all the nastiness”
He recently turned 5 years old and celebrated his birthday in style
And surely has many more happy years to come

Those breeders are morons and shouldn't be in the business of producing live animals. Bertram is adorable and I'm glad he found a loving home.
People who buy dogs from breeders are morons too. He wouldn’t have thrown him away if his clientele wasn’t so picky.
You need to know your breeder very well if your heart is dead set on a certain purebred puppy. My parents buy from only one breeder but we know the couple that runs it quite well. We even helped them find a home for a runt with a heart condition who most families wouldn't take. Not all breeders are evil, but we need better regulation to stop the ones that are.
You are a moron for calling out someone who would purchase from a breeder. I got my long haired chihuahua from a breeder. She was new to breeding and made sure that the puppies went to good homes. She did not breed puppies with the fathers and did not keep puppies to use for breeding. I lived in an area that did not have shelters and the pound never had any chihuahuas and that is the only dog that I want. He is perfect, very smart and not inbred. I have his full pedigree and saw where he was kept. It was very clean and inside the home. I have depression and anxiety problems and if not for him I would not be here today. 11052371_8...a11539.jpg
Melinda Brown So you wanted a dog who has turned into something smaller than a large rat, whose ancestors used to be wolves and you don't see how you proved the point that it's the pickiness of the buyer like you that causes issues like this? Wow...
I was forced to buy a dog from a breeder, so I chose a breeder that had a great reputation. I love rescues, but if I had adopted (even though I really really wanted to) I would have never gotten my sweet puppy, Luna. For all of you people who think that I had a choice and am just a rescue-hater, I am a middle schooler whose dad wanted a dog who was fully trained. I spent MONTHS searching through adoption websites for the perfect dog. I broke into tears when my dad said that we had to buy one from a breeder. you should be ashamed for making such a cruel assumption.
It is awful to see anyone abuse the kindness of our shelter and rescue volunteers to make a buck off of the lives of animals. Rescues are also full of chihuahuas who got "too big". No, I'm not kidding. There's honestly no need to buy animals when there are more than can find homes out there in shelters and rescues. 1/3 of those (minimum) are purebred and rescue doesn't end with cats and dogs. I have two rescued turtles, and foster animals for a group that helps out all kinds of animals who end up in shelters--reptiles, birds, rodents, lagomorphs, and ferrets, too! Plus, rescued animals are often fostered in homes or by regular volunteers who get to know them very well. Many groups train their animals, and almost all of them socialize them, and get them each fully vetted, quarantine them for health, and do *not* ship them in the mail or as cargo. Pet stores don't offer any of those things. Don't support substandard care, let alone abandonment or abuse/neglect. Animals aren't products.
The idea of purebreds is moronic because they are all interbred and genetically inferior to mutts. People are too ignorant that they are paying top money to sick and inferior animals yet feel pride at owning a "purebred". Stupid people everywhere. Do a bit of research yourself and you will see how sick these "top of the breed" animals are
@DarkLumiya: We purchased a rare Blue Longhaired Chihuahua from a pet store. We soon realised that he had health problems due to too much inbreeding. He only lived 2 1/2 years. This left us bitter towards these puppy mills. They are just out to make a buck.
I dreamed about a corgi and I got a corgi. And then I got second corgi from the same litter, who is a fluffy. Fluffiness is considered to be a trait in the breed, but she is more cute than her sister. Both are perfectly healthy and happy. I've got the dog of my dreams, I knew how it will look and what character it will have. I know who their parents are and the history of their health. I have strong support from my breeder, we became friends. I really don't see what is moronic about that. But I know that offending other people's choices IS moronic. Especially when it is not backgrounded with any facts and just some sort of bla bla google it
All dogs breeds are descended from wolves. To get a specific breed to suit human purposes these animals have been selectively bred for certain traits which are mutations. To establish these traits the animals are often inbred since animals related to them are more likely to have the same mutation. The simple fact is that liking a specific breed of dog is basically the same as racism. In humans different races exist because of different traits and these traits have also developed through selective breeding based on sexual attraction to characteristics considered appealing. These are often based on looks. When you choose a specific dog breed it's the same thing as only liking people of a certain race. Perhaps you could learn some basic human history about the domestication of animals including dogs. Google skewers results based on your interests so no one will get the same results as you. It confirms biases.
Anna Did you actually do any research on what purebreds are? Or just going by one experience, your own. Look into how many owners have suffered with their sick purebreds, how many more animals suffer. They are also abandoned because many people don't know how sick they are and when they see how sick the animal is decide they don't want it anymore. have you gone to shelters and seen how many of these great purebreds are abandoned every year, Do you know anything of how they live, suffer and die. "Oh noo i have a great relationship with my breeder, pedigrees are all great, breeders are fantastic because I, queen of the world, have had one positive experience so all must be the same everywhere else" I know very well what happens, both "googled" and first hand but it seems you yourself are completely ignorant. Take your own advice and google how the situation n really is with purebreds.
Dark L. I couldn't have said it better than you. Bravo! The kind of people that should rule the world.
Paddington is this you?
I follow Bertram on Instragram and they actually put him in a Paddington costume at one point and he certainly is the spitting image!
I nearly died with squee when I saw him in his Paddington costume...
Exactly what I thought! :D
Aw, he's adorable! In a few of the photos he looks like he's singing!! How heartless must you be to leave a little cutie pie like that behind? Not that any animal should be treated like that.
I have a Pom with a similar story--tossed away years ago by a puppy mill breeder. Mine needed years of work to fix the damage done to her mind/body by that inhuman POS. However, I saw her on the Mill Rescue's site and I NEEDED her.
I'm so glad you did, she needed you.
Thank you for doing that. We need more people like you.
U both still need each other. what a perfect relationship, when u need each other someone u love each other. Adopting a dog is like bringing them back to life, and thats what u did. I bet your pom is a very thankfull and a very happy dog.
