Shelter Builds Private Cottages For Dogs, Because Animals Shouldn’t Live In Cages

Being a shelter dog is tough, so The Luvable Dog Rescue in Oregon built their pups private cottages where doggies can be extra comfortable. The shelter was already a pooch paradise on Earth – think 55 acres of land with forests, meadows, and hiking trails, all for the enjoyment of the four-legged friends. But with the new cottages, the shelter got upgraded to a new level, with each canine having indoor and outdoor space to himself.

The interior contains furniture, paintings, and everything else to make it look like a normal home. When shelter staff see how the doggies behave in their cottages, they get a feeling of how they would act in their future owners’ house. This allows employees to make better recommendations for potential adoptors.

Liesl Wilhardt, Executive Director of Luvable Dog Rescue, is one of the main people behind this project. Ever since she was a little girl, she felt a special fondness towards pit bulls. Wilhardt has recently built a “pit bull palace” for the bigger pups, and is planning to build a maternity ward for doggie moms with their newborns.
This is waaay better than cages! And did we mention the little dog houses are purple and super cute from the outside too?

Maybe offer some homeless people shelter as well, so they can see how the dogs interact with people. This will allow for even better advice!

It was a very special person who came up with this idea. Thank you to whoever it was, you're a hero!

There is nothing wrong with trying to help dogs. There is suffering, and will always be suffering unless we get rid of wants. Want is the cause of suffering, what this shelter has done has ended a some suffering in this cruel world. Perhaps you could be the one to help those children that you speak of, but it can't be don unless you put your thoughts to action rather than sitting down and whining about it and telling others to do something that you wish.

Let's be honest: this is a gimmick to go viral, otherwise it makes no financial sense. I mean, even setting aside the moral human vs animal argument, the bottom line is that if you have a budget of $100,000 (to keep things simple) a year, and you can help one hundred dogs at a cost of $1,000 per dog, or twenty dogs at a cost of $5,000 per dog, with the dogs getting the same standard of care, but flashier lodgings, you would be doing the most good by helping one hundred animals, but of course, then you would have a hard time trying to stand out from the crowd, hence the ridiculous cottages.

One lovely thing is done for these sweet dogs, and yet some people still have something to complain about! Dogs deserve happiness too!

It's certainly good work, but part of me wishes that these could be used to house real people who don't have homes.

Agree, but as one poster said why not both together? Dogs like people, homeless people could benefit from the companionship.
